Sock seams

AIBU to think everyone wants to have the seams lined up just right on their socks?

I see it cited all the time as an example of sensory processing issues. But I don't see how anyone could go about with their sock seams all wonky and bothering their feet!

Sock seams are bonkers and unnecessary. I mean, why are they on the inside where they will rub if they get the teeniest bit out of line? I'm with you so YANBU. Pringle socks with flat seams means that this is no longer an issue here though.

I always wear socks inside out.

Some people don't seem to be bothered.

I hate scratchy, itchy labels and clothing. And a wet sleeve makes me feel a bit ill.

I couldn't wear socks with the seams under my toes. I just couldn't. I think the sensory thing is if you can't deal with socks having any seams. Not just the seams under your toes.

Getting my DD dressed after the bath. She had got the sleeve of her PJs wet. I was pointing it out and about to get her fresh ones. She couldn't see what the issue is. Weird child!

I agree. Lots of people in my family only wear them inside out. And my toddler thinks wearing socks is some kind of cruel and unusual punishment. Maybe we're all weird.

I have to line them up because otherwise they rub and are uncomfortable.

I do have some sensory issues though - especially around touch. I hate lumpy mashed potato - even the slightest graininess to it makes me feel like vomiting. I always buy supermarket mash for that reason - because it's machine whipped and perfectly smooth. I also hate the feel of your skin when it's a bit soggy from being in the water. Even typing it is making me feel a bit grim! So I never put my hands in the bath because if I do then I have to keep my hands splayed so my fingers don't touch each other. I'll only wash up if I have rubber gloves available.

Labels shouldn't be allowed to have corners, imo.

But I hate labels, and tight socks, and anything even remotely woolly.

DD3 was sensitive to sock seams to the point that I had to buy her completely seamless socks at £5 per pair . Before I did that I regularly had to hand her over to her teacher with bare feet, socks and a pair of shoes and say 'couldn't get these on'.

We buy our DD those socks too Lougle. Extortionate - but worth it as they're the only ones she can tolerate.

Seam free socks?? DS and DD2 would love those. I am not very sympathetic, but will line up the seams to minimise irritation

Katy07 I hear you on the wool thing. Any % wool content against my skin is unbearable.

Ds's socks are £10 a pair (seamless splint socks)!! They are lovely though (so lovely I have to wait until he is asleep to take them off!)

I was never bothered by sock seams until I had a toe removed (long story). Now, the seams on that foot alone drive me up the wall. Whenever possible I buy seamless socks or turn them inside out now.

It is a common issue with sensory processing issues, but on the whole the disorder is a lot more life affecting than annoying socks and tags .

Socks shouldn't have seams.

where can i get seamless socks and tights? my dd is just about to wear m&s socks the right way round but is refusing tights or trousers

Above, Hazey linked to the socks that work very well under leg braces, and they can be up to thigh high. They are expensive, but certainly fit the bill.

My DD wears leg braces and a back brace and doesn't mind a bit about seams. I wish she did, because they cause pressure sores.

Ok I thought I was just weird but now I know this is actually something! I have issues with sock seams - often avoid wearing socks due to this but then I have to have something on or else I feel all the textures :( (and now my toes are curling just thinking about it)

Yes the sensory smart store linked to above. The woman who owns it is really friendly. They also do pants (about £8 per pair).

PEX tights are the nearest thing I have got to seamless tights that DD3 would wear without complaint. She's wearing M&S at the mo but spends about 30 mins faffing about the seams each morning.

I choose socks without seams. I have to have the socks fitting neatly on the foot. Not all pulled hither and dither. Dd is the same.

Dp has been known to put on dd's socks on upside down! UPSIDE DOWN, with the heel bit on the front of the foot and the minion on the sole...!!

The sock shop do some pretty good socks. Not technically seamless, but have very flat seams, and are very reasonably priced. My 4 year old has huge issues with socks (possible ASD), but she can cope with the sock shop ones. They are bamboo, and really soft.

Inside out socks for me too. My toes feel all discombobulated with the seam all wonky

Check the women's socks in Asda. You have to pull the packs about a bit to check. Some of their socks have seams and some are seamless. I can only wear their seamless ones.
