But she wasn't interested in him ... wasn't the point was she was good in her field despite her disadvantage (being female) and he was good in his (being of peasant birth). They both got some recognition for being good at something. make her the love interest and you might lose that.

I love that she's a good smith and doesn't need to decorate some guys arm.

The rich woman had nothing about her other than being pretty and initially not interested in him.

The rich one is a terrible actress who can't hide her American accent and they put her in ridiculous clothes and hair styles. I love the film but she just jars in every scene she's in.
