To ask if you've ever had your car stolen?

Woken up to find bastard got in through a tiny window, found car keys (for nicer car) and its been nicked. All of us- 2 small DC sleeping upstairs.
What are chances its found and we get it back- none? Do you think insurance will stay pay out? our double buggy, car seat, basically so much of my life is in that car...just utterly shocked.

Depends on what kind of car it is if it's likely to be seen again. Realistically probably not. Why would your insurance not pay out? It was stolen during a break in.

Least it can be replaced what a horrible shock for you

This happened to me, the police found my car abandoned but the bastards who nicked it thrashed it and fucked the engine, it was a write off. Insurance paid out, there is no reason why they shouldn't. Sorry this has happened to you Flowers

Yes happened to me but they didn't break in, but was on my drive
Well known luxury make with a method of entry without owners key
Police said if it didn't turn up in 24 hours it never would be seen again in the UK
Took some time but full insurance payout for the vehicle, nothing for the contents
Now never leave anything in the car

Thanks all so much. Its an Audi, so doubt we will ever see it again. in utter shock and livid that someone could do this, but so stupid to not check windows shut (a tiny little window above all others).

Mine was stolen overseas - keys nicked. Insurance paid out and then they found it 11 months later!

Ours was stolen a few years ago.

We did get ours back (or at least it was found!) but it was too damaged to save and was a write off.

Be prepared for a battle with the insurance. Ours tried to give us a rediculously low settlement for the car and nothing for contents but eventually we did get a payout and bought another, was a pain in the arse though...sorry!

Yes. It was stolen from our local station. The police returned the car to us before we even knew it had been stolen.

On a bank holiday weekend someone broke into our house , stole the car nothing else. It was found in the next village a few days later. As though someone just needed a ride home. No damage, nothing missing full tank of petrol. Very odd

Your car policy probably has a limit on what amount for personal items you can claim, so you might not get your pram paid for. Might need to claim on your home insurance for that.

Cars do fairly often turn up having been abandoned. If it's brand new though, it may be stolen to order and have its identity changed.

We had my Dad's brand new golf nicked in a similar way (he'd only had it 12 hours, must have been stolen to order). Unfortunately he never got it back. Hope you're more successful.

Yes ours was hotwired and the crook lock cut off. It was found 6 hours later in a garage on a nearby estate. Insurance paid out as it was a write-off. We bought it back and had the repairs done for £150. The police knew where to look.

How are cars stolen now? Is it nearly always by nicking the keys as hotwiring is not possible any longer? Can it be done with a computer?

A few years ago I was staying at my mum's house. Woke up in the middle of the night hearing shouting outside. Looked out the window and my mum's dp was standing by my car holding a young man upside down and shaking him. Wee shit had forced car door open and was trying to get into the ignition....

I have had two cars stolen in the past. One was my first car and a bit of a banger, it was stolen and involved and in an accident, it was a write off. My next car after this was stolen, 2 weeks later I got a phone call from police in neighbouring country, they had seized my car after stopping the driver for speeding. I got this one back. Sorry this has happened to you op, it's a horrible feeling, I can't see why your insurance wouldn't pay out.

Ours was stolen while we were on holiday when we were burgled. Was found a couple of months later on false plates. Luckily insurance had already paid out

We were only covered for £100 of accessories in car (ie things that can only be used in the car like car seat etc) and claimed other things like coats etc on home insurance

My dad had a van stolen without the keys, we live near a large docks and apparently there was a spate of brand new large vans stolen in the same way. Very odd as you'd expect them to pick nice cars instead!

Such a horrible thing to happen. DP got his Audi back after about two weeks, police told him it had been used in several armed robberies. It wasn't damaged at all but they'd stamped on all his CDs in the glove box! Worst bit was how they got the keys off him really.

My dad's car was stolen from a car park, but it was found by the police later in the day parked up in a residential road about 10 miles away.

There was no damage, not even to the door, and nothing was stolen, not even the money which my dad always had stashed under the seat in case of emergency. It had obviously been taken by someone just to get themselves home.

Just no point in having nice stuff for some fucker to nick it. It was probably nicked to order by a gang who specialises in this type of burglary.

Yes, in about 2008. My first car - a Ford Fiesta older than me. It was never found.

Yes, 19 yr old banger. Popped to playgroup in the morning and they used a truck to steal it off my drive! Damaged a wall doing so so probably caused bad scraping. I live on a main road opposite a police station and not even a neighbour noticed!!!

It still confuses me, it was a non mover as I was half way through swapping the battery so did they know it needed a truck (there were double truck tyre marks in the drive). Why anyone would go to that risk, the worst bit is that with a baby I was nearly always in apart from regularly at that time once a week... I was paranoid they'd watched!

Once had my old Ford stolen.
They didn't get far as it wasn't starting but they pushed it all the way along the road before abandoning it round the corner.

Recently came out to find my car up on bricks, they stole one wheel. One wheel! Did the same to someone else locally.

Its shitty knowing someone has been in your house.
