'Home' currently being my parents house.

DD and I have been here for a few months already and will probably be 4-6 months before we can move out.

My Dad is a sweetheart, but my Mum aka the lovechild of Hyacinth Bucket & Victor Meldrew and I are very different characters and although we love each other, we are driving each other up the wall. Throw a hormonal 12yo into the mix and, well, you can imagine .

DD and I have a Monday inset day coming up which means we could do a Sunday night at our local Premier Inn with breakfast for under £40. I have Clubcard vouchers for a meal out the night before and we could have a lovely bath each without getting moaned at about the cost of the hot water!

Have looked at PI in neighbouring city to make it more of a break but seems a bit grotty whereas local one has only been open a year or so.

It's true I have legal/court costs to pay (divorcing hence living here atm) but I have started working full time for the first time in 14 years and been doing additional freelance work to try and minimise debt etc, so a cheapo mini break doesn't seem too UR, surely?

My friend spent a week at centre parcs 15 mins away from house (and that ain't cheap). Sounds lush

Pandora, can't you buy a voucher of the hotel and have a friend give it to you for this purpose? In front of your mum? That way she can't complain about your priorities.

Just make sure the hotel does actually have baths and not just a shower!

Remember a big pile of box sets too

Maybe book a family room (if the price isn't much different) to guarantee a bath!

Do it! Staying in a PI in London as I type this and it's lovely - v comfy bed, lovely deep bath. Surely there's no reason to tell your mum where you're going? Make up a cover story.

We moved in with my ILs last year as part of a complicated move/new-build fuck up and I honestly thought that I would stab her in the eye with a fork before the time was up - you have my sympathies!
