To wonder whether Honey G is a racist act?...

... And the modern equivalent of black face? Are those who laugh at her act actually laughing at black culture?

Lily Allen is such a hypocrite! She totally appropriated working class 'chav' culture to sell records.

I don't know about honey g really, I suppose it is a bit racist. I'm just thinking about Cher Lloyd - she was a white traveller who rapped, but she was a more 'serious' artist, so it wasn't really piss taking. But no one said she was racist I don't think?

I thought Ali G and Goldie Looking Chain were acts taking the piss out of white lads who appropriate black culture ('is it cos i is black' etc)

Bummymummy77 · 03/11/2016 12:09

A few of my black friends find it pretty insulting so seeing as they're offended I'd have to go with - yes.

Niloufes · 03/11/2016 13:16

Of course she isn't a racist character. She is a silly old lady dressed up as a rude boy. Any laughing that is happening is "at" her not "with" her. Its a bit of fun, leave it at that.

SoupDragon · 03/11/2016 13:18

But 50 Cent called the claims ridiculous and said: “For anybody who thinks a white person performing music of black origin is racist, you know they don’t know what racism really is.”

SoupDragon · 03/11/2016 13:18

She is a silly old lady

No she isn't.

Twogoats · 03/11/2016 13:25

Cultural appropriation?

What culture would want to claim that?

Aeroflotgirl · 03/11/2016 13:29

Niloufes so you think 35 is old Shock, I am 39 so must be near to collecting my pension or even snuffing it!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 03/11/2016 13:59

silly old lady

Yes she is silly. She isn't however, 'old'

If Honey G is a 'genuine artist' then I agree with those who say she's no different to Eminem or another white rapper.... despite her protestations I don't think she is. It's a pisstake that many (including, I have to admit, myself) find amusing. Why? Because many find the strutting, the bling and the self-obsession associated with parts of rap culture ridiculous, and her act parodies it in an absurd manner. Given rap culture is MOBO, does that make ridiculing it racist,? Possibly.... but then to use the words of Avenue Q musical perhaps "everyone's a little bit racist"!
