To wonder whether Honey G is a racist act?...

Bananabread123 · 03/11/2016 07:48

... And the modern equivalent of black face? Are those who laugh at her act actually laughing at black culture?

OP posts:
pictish · 03/11/2016 09:36

Yeah...I wouldn't deny the author of that article her opinion or wealth of experience, but I don't agree with her.

BazookaJoe90 · 03/11/2016 09:39

Is she balls racist, and I'm rooting for her to win it, for no other reason than to piss off Simon Cowell and Daily Mail readers. Why should some wailing bastard win it every year, have a punt at the Christmas number one then disappear forever. As for people saying she's just rapping song lyrics and has nothing of her own to say, the rest of the X Factor contestants are also singing other peoples lyrics and have nothing of their own to offer, other than the ability to wail. She needs to get together with the Goldie Looking Chain for the full on piss take though!

Musicinthe00ssucks · 03/11/2016 09:41

The most shocking thing about this post is that Honey G is 35. That must have been one tough paper round.

SpunkyMummy · 03/11/2016 09:41

sugar

That makes about as much sense as saying that black people should be respectful when they get blond & straight hair.

Vixxfacee · 03/11/2016 09:50

S punky monkey what do you mean?

Thinnestofthinice · 03/11/2016 09:52

Ffs!! This sort of thing actually creates more racism! Stop looking for problems when there aren't any!!

SpunkyMummy · 03/11/2016 09:55

vixxfacee

Did you mean me?

This was my response to that white people might have to be a little respectful when using this genre of music.

NeedATrim · 03/11/2016 09:55

I see the blackface parallels, sure.

Anyway she is the x factors real life saddo version of David Brent with his touring band.

Mumberjack · 03/11/2016 09:59

She is a shit Ali G type but not racist

Dontpanicpyke · 03/11/2016 10:10

To be honest I can't see the difference between her and any other rapper including Eminem although she's not mysogynistic and hateful yet. Still I always think rapping is for those who just can't hold a tune.

HuskyLover1 · 03/11/2016 10:17

Funny how we have the MOBO awards (Music of black origin) but all hell would break loose if we tried to have MOWO awards. Just saying.

Dontpanicpyke · 03/11/2016 10:18

To be honest there's a hell of a lot of vitriol here and obviously in the vile Guardian because a fairly ordinary looking mid thirties lady is doing what she enjoys doing.

Ffs who cares. Good on her I say.

Honestly If so called journalists are bothering to write articles about HG they really need to get out more.

Still the Guardian is a ridiculous rag on a par with the fail so what would you expect.

ZoeTurtle · 03/11/2016 10:21

Maybe you should say less if it's going to be such shit.

GenerationEx · 03/11/2016 10:22

The left wing chattering class will always take offence on behalf of a minority group, so no surprises the white middle class Guardianistas have taken offence on behalf of black ghetto culture. Apparently she counts Snoop as a fan, but I guess he just doesn't realise he should be offended and all that.

NikaKaKa · 03/11/2016 10:25

Well take a look at The Brits, VMAs, AMAs, MTV awards.....they are predominantly white award shows which is one of the reasons the MOBOS was created in the first place!

gillybeanz · 03/11/2016 10:28

My dh is a Jazz Musician, you know the stuff that started is founded on Black culture.
can he not play his music and earn his living playing music that people both black and white like to listen too?
How ridiculous.

It annoys me when people say this
Same people that complain about black history month!

pictish · 03/11/2016 10:37

We're such an appearance-focused society aren't we?
Because let's be honest here...that's her most heinous crime. She fails to be beautiful or sexy. She must be taking the piss.

People are actually angry about her...and I'm not talking about clever, observant articles in the Guardian either. She has been privvy to the most outlandish, disproportionate abuse imaginable. Death threats and violent intentions towards her being. Confused

Do I take her seriously as an artist? No of course not. I am entertained by her though. She gives not a single toot.

I don't think she's a fool though, I don't think she's mentally ill, I don't think she's being racist...I think she's an opportunist. She'll make a tidy sum out of this... bloody rude not to, considering the onslaught she is fending off to earn it.

It's like when E.L James brought out Fifty Shades. I loved her attitude to all the haters...which was to laugh good naturedly and count her money.

Aoibhe · 03/11/2016 10:39

I think she entered for a laugh, and probably never expected to get past the auditions.

ZoeTurtle · 03/11/2016 10:41

She clearly is taking the piss, at the same time as laughing all the way to the bank. The two aren't mutually exclusive... and nothing to do with her looks.

Dontpanicpyke · 03/11/2016 11:08

pictish

Absolutely spot on post.

zoe there's so much vitriol thrown at plain women or older women in the music industry as everywhere else.

Look at the vitriol thrown at madonna because she still dares to dance at her age and perform? She's constantly villifued as 'old! ' sad, trying too hard etc.

Contrast that to the attitudes to Jagger, Bowie, etc.

Society hates women who are plain and older.

The criticism of HG is fair on her voice but all the other stuff is mysogyny hiding behind racists

ZoeTurtle · 03/11/2016 11:12

I get that and completely agree. I just don't think that's what's happening with Honey G.

AndNowItsSeven · 03/11/2016 11:13

Who is Keith Mrs Jay

pictish · 03/11/2016 11:19

Oh I agree to an extent...could even be she's a 'persona' as some people suggest. If she's taking the piss, it's out of herself. I think there's no offence intended and nor should it be taken. She's just very silly.

Dontpanicpyke · 03/11/2016 11:32

Ok zoe I disagree with you but see all your points
