To think this man was rude on flight?

On long haul night flight yesterday. My 5 year old would not fall asleep as she was quite excited and enjoying watching all the cartoons. After 5 hours, I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer and drifted off. I was awakened by the man infront shouting 'oh for fucks sake' and throwing his headphones on the floor. I realised my daughter had been kicking his chair, I apologised, got my child to apologise but he didn't even answer - just threw a glare and turned round. I of course stayed awake for the rest of the flight to make sure she didn't do it again. At the end of the flight, he stood up and said loudly that that was the last time he will ever fly with the cattle class. I know I should have theoretically made sure she did not kick his chair and I know it is annoying but surely this was just bloody rude ?

OP - thanks for coming back... however I don't quite believe you when it comes to your child - or else your child is telling porkies.

whatever it is you annoyed a man enough for him to lose his cool and at least both you and your special snowflake know the repercussions of both of your actions.

but hey carry on thinking you're right. Halo

OP

You are some kind of masochist Grin

They aren't going to start believing you now! Too much time and energy invested in their won narrative

NotYoda · 04/11/2016 16:37

It needs a wooden stake through its ❤️ I think.

Secretmetalfan · 04/11/2016 18:50

Sorry on a long haul flight you should have stayed awake to supervise your child. Flown long haul a lot with my 4year old wouldn't cross my mind to leave him whilst I slept. In future I wouldn't fly long haul without a person who will stay awake

bikerlou · 04/11/2016 18:56

Sorry but I'm fed up with the awful way people deal with situations now and I think it was pretty awful for him to swear and throw things.
I think he could have approached you and asked you politely if you would please stop your child kicking his seat and then if that didn't work go and see one of the stewardesses.
There is no need for a grown man to have a tantrum.
Similarly I was driving to work this morning and becasue it was not actually safe to stop and give way to a van who wanted to pull out as there was a car behind coming up the rear of my car very fast I was treated to a volley of swearing and fingers up and this guy chasing my car for a mile honking and screaming.
I'd love just once to see someone behave with some restraint and manners.

I agree. Now, if you'd been a 5 year old brat with restless legs and a useless mother, I'd support him giving you both guns

Yes, you have said it a million times! I agree with much of what you say on other threads, but you are like a dog with a bone here

Anyway, I am prolonging this, so I'll bugger off now

Agree 100% bikerlou!

See, this is the problem I have with the guy.

Children have tantrums and are (hopefully) taught how to handle their feelings so they mature into gracious adults who find more sensible ways to handle situations.

I don't understand why an adult would have a tantrum over this. This kind of attitude is why we see bosses screaming at their employees, motorists thumping cyclists and housewives beating each other with frozen turkeys in the supermarket come the season of "goodwill".

What hope for children to learn in such a crazy violent world?

(And I HATE seat-kicking, but I don't use it as an excuse to lose control over myself.)

My cat agrees with you

Fuck me this thread is still going

It hasn't reached the heights of the thread where the pregnant woman dared to walk in First Class to alleviate her swollen ankles and was held by the arm and rebuked by the air steward...

Highlandfling80 · 05/11/2016 06:20

Can anyone link to the other current plane thread please. Fancy a read.

BadLad · 05/11/2016 06:46

It isn't current, but here you are:

TonaldDrump · 05/11/2016 06:56

These threads always astound me - they are so nasty!

Op, I know that complete exhaustion when traveling long haul. I've also dozed off while my kids were watching tv, it happens - you're not comatose, you'll wake if needed.

Kids kick chairs, it happens. Parents don't always immediately notice. You ask parent politely to stop child. Job done.

What you don't do is make child and parent feel like shit, who doesn't accept a 5 year olds apology?! And you certainly shouldn't sweat and curse and throw things.

Of course he was rude!!

sartra · 05/11/2016 07:09

I Don't blame him for getting annoyed. Problem is as you fell asleep you don't know how long she had been kicking his chair and if hed asked your dd to stop a number of times and she hadn't. Would assume this may have been case as his reaction seems a little over the top if only had had been happening a few mins or so. The answer is you can't fall asleep on the flight. It is awful when someone kicks your seat on a plane.

TonaldDrump · 05/11/2016 07:13

Well, op has said she was sleeping lightly and her dd would have been mortified and said if the man had spoken to her.

That sounds completely plausible and reasonable. I never sleep properly on planes, just doze and my kids would also have been upset to have been told off by a stranger.

Why make up scenarios?!
