To think this man was rude on flight?

On long haul night flight yesterday. My 5 year old would not fall asleep as she was quite excited and enjoying watching all the cartoons. After 5 hours, I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer and drifted off. I was awakened by the man infront shouting 'oh for fucks sake' and throwing his headphones on the floor. I realised my daughter had been kicking his chair, I apologised, got my child to apologise but he didn't even answer - just threw a glare and turned round. I of course stayed awake for the rest of the flight to make sure she didn't do it again. At the end of the flight, he stood up and said loudly that that was the last time he will ever fly with the cattle class. I know I should have theoretically made sure she did not kick his chair and I know it is annoying but surely this was just bloody rude ?

To all who have enjoyed telling everyone what they would do if they were in a position where they were responsible for preventing a small child kicking a seat; it's been an education for us Wink

The op hasn't said that the child didn't whack the man on the head repeatedly with her in flight magazine either, Navy.

This thread is surreal now.

theclick · 02/11/2016 20:35

Yes he was rude. Yes you should have kept a closer eye on your child.

troublesmith why do you even feel the need the need to comment that you would love to nurture kids 'in a non pervy way'? Some really weird people have crawled out of the woodwork to criticise OP.

And I don't really understand the people who think they know what happened better than the OP.

What's the point of commenting if you don't believe OP's version of events. May as well go and read a book.

FluffyPineapple · 02/11/2016 21:32

Why do I get the feeling that most people chastising the OP probably haven't flown anywhere longhaul with children before

FFS! I have flown longhaul with lots of children (Think over 30!) Every single one of them knew not to kick the seat in front. It really isn't that difficult! The learning curve starts when they are very young. By the time they are 4 they have the message loud and clear - Unless, of course, the parent sees their perfect child as "special" and expects everyone to pander to their every whim. Get real! Children kicking your seat will NOT be tolerated and shouldn't have to be.

AlexaTwoAtT · 02/11/2016 21:35

SEATS.

sigh
Just how difficult can it be?

I live in Australia. A flight to the other side of the country is a long-haul flight. So yes, I have taken my children on long haul flights.

A 5 year old should know not to kick the back of someone's chair. And I highly doubt the child ONLY did it for the "20 minutes" that the OP was asleep. What kind of coincidence is that?

MrsNuckyThompson · 02/11/2016 21:46

Hang on hang on. While the OPs child was being annoying the man could have easily just nudged OP awake and asked that her DD stop the kicking.

There is no need to swear at or near a child like that or make insulting comments!!!

How many flights have you been on? How could he have nudged the sleeping mother when he was in front of her? How do you know how many times he asked the kid to stop kicking his seat? We will never know because the kids mother was asleep. Meanwhile the bloke couldn't sleep as some kid kept kicking his seat! I would be totally pissed off if some kid kept kicking my seat and kept me awake on a night flight, whilst the mother was sound asleep. Get it??

Pluto30 · 02/11/2016 21:57

Why should the man have to wake the mother? The mother should be watching the child, FFS. It's not his responsibility to turn around and attempt to wake the mother or discipline the child. Blimmin' 'eck. We've lost all accountability, it seems.

tofutti · 02/11/2016 21:57

Fluffypineapple

He could have

  1. looked over his shoulder and spoken to the OP to wake her up

  2. asked a air steward to wake the OP

Get it??

Are you always this rude?

BolivarAtasco · 02/11/2016 22:02

I once sat on a flight from London to Sydney surrounded by a family with three kids under 7. Not once did my seat get kicked and the parents were absolutely fantastic at keeping them occupied in a way which didn't disturb other passengers or mean they were all awake for 25 hours.

I suspect some parents on flights just can't be bothered to try and expect other passengers to suck it up. We flew to Scotland earlier this year which is an hour and a fucking half, yet there was still some PFB kicking my seat. I turned around and asked the child nicely to stop. It carried on. So I turned around and asked the parents to stop it. All I got was half-hearted shrugs and 'oh ok, we'll try and stop it'. FFS. No wonder people hate flying with children nearby.

Only when people keep making ridiculous posts about what the victim of child seat kickers could have done to appropriately stop the aggravation - especially when chair kickers mother slept peacefully! Get it?
