Is it just me that cleans up hotel rooms before leaving ??!

Dp thinks it's odd, I bag up absolutely all rubbish, leave bins etc on counters, used towels will be put in the sink and if I have time i'll strip the bed.

In dps fairness he made the comment when I pointed him to the loo with a bottle of shower gel and wad of loo roll after he left a skiddy in their Blush but seriously, I can't be the only one who does this ?? Am I really the only one who would be mortified at the thought of someone tackling the remains of my breakfast in the loo bowl ??!

Strip the beds! Seeing a bare hotel mattress is one way of taking the glamour from your stay, that's for sure.

itsbetterthanabox · 29/10/2016 21:20

I try to keep it tidy but don't strip beds.
I don't leave rubbish everywhere and I hang up all the towels.
Leaving skids is disgusting!

unlucky83 · 29/10/2016 21:20

thenoodles I squash down paper towels in bins in public loos (usually with my foot) - can't understand how someone can just throw another one in an overflowing bin/ watch it fall on the floor ...
I wouldn't do it if anyone was in there though...
I also often flush gross public loos but use a different one...I know other people have crapped on them but somehow seeing the evidence makes me not want to use that loo!

Put rubbish in the bin and that is it.

HedgehogHedgehog · 29/10/2016 21:22

i always make sure all the rubbish is in a bag and put all the used cups and glasses together etc... it depends on the type of hotel weather i strip the beds tho... i wouldnt do it in an extremely expensive hotel, i would in a family run place tho. Towels i always put together in the bath.

I don't don my marigolds and get scrubing but yes to binning rubbish, rinsing the sink and wiping bathroom surfaces.
Yes to used towels in the bath/shower, and the menu and tv remotes are put back on the desk or coffee table.

It doesn't take long. It's a way of making sure we leave nothing behind.

Rachel0Greep · 29/10/2016 21:25

I never strip the bed, but I would like to think that the staff can get through the clean up quickly after my stay, rubbish in bin, room tidy, things left as I found them.

Cucumber5 · 29/10/2016 21:27

I don't strip the beds but would leave tidy with towels in the sink and rubbish in bin

Aroundtheworldandback · 29/10/2016 21:30

Dh will strip the bed every morning to make sure we get clean sheets! But when we leave it's just rubbish in bin.

expatinscotland · 29/10/2016 21:32

I throw the towels in the bath and make sure all the rubbish is in the bin. That's it.

SenecaFalls · 29/10/2016 21:33

I try to leave the room tidy, but I never strip beds. I do leave a tip for the chambermaid though.

I certainly don't strip the beds! Grin

I bag all rubbish and put all the towels together in a tidy pile though. I'd feel like an arse to swan out leaving rubbish strewn around.

user1471545174 · 29/10/2016 21:37

I tidy and clean but wouldn't strip beds. Leaving the room OK is just polite.

sofatrainer · 29/10/2016 21:38

I can safely say that it has never occurred to me to strip a hotel bed in my life but I do leave the room tidy and all rubbish in the bin

limitedperiodonly · 29/10/2016 21:40

Am I really the only one who would be mortified at the thought of someone tackling the remains of my breakfast in the loo bowl ??!

Are you talking about unflushed vomit, which is gross, or skid marks under the water line, which I wouldn't be mortified by.

I wouldn't strip the bed either.

So - dirty towels in the bath, rubbish in the bin, a tip on the bedside table.

HeilandMoo · 29/10/2016 21:40

It's not really that helpful to stop beds in hotels y'know! The housekeeping teams have productivity targets to hit and stripping the beds for them throws that time and motion pattern off track. They would rather you didn't.

HeilandMoo · 29/10/2016 21:41

Stop should have been strip.

HardToDeal · 29/10/2016 21:42

Would a man do any of this? That's what we should ask ourselves. I mean sure, don't make extra work for housekeeping staff but also don't take it on yourself unpaid, how is that any better?

FurryLittleTwerp · 29/10/2016 21:43

I tidy obvious mess, wipe obvious stains, bin rubbish, dump used towels in the shower/bath.

I know I'm on holiday & it's "not my job", but I think it common courtesy to help a little.

goingtotown · 29/10/2016 21:43

The first thing I do in a hotel room is wipe all surfaces with anti bacterial wipes, even though it looks spotlessly clean.

ANewStartOverseas · 29/10/2016 21:43

Tidy yes. Rubbish in the bin yes.
Towels in the sink, toilet completely cleaned, stripping the bed?? nope sorry.

Queenbean · 29/10/2016 21:44

Why would you leave bins on the counter?! Confused

That doesn't make any sense at all!

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 29/10/2016 21:45

Tidying is one thing, cleaning is different.

If I was a housekeeper and I came in to clean a room that had already been cleaned I'd wonder what the guest was trying to hide.

Centre Parcs like you to strip beds and what not before you leave, which I did because I felt for the staff but it did irk me somewhat. And surely sheets still have to be checked before going off to be laundered to check nothing has accidentally got wrapped up.

HeilandMoo · 29/10/2016 21:45

The cups and glasses NEVER leave the room. I wouldn't use them, ever!
