Horses in residential streets

Why do horse riders think it is ok to go onto residential srreets ( not a through road to a field or anything) and let their horses shit all over the pavements and roads?

Because it is ok.

Horse poo is perfectly organic and natural.

I love seeing horses on the streets.

Plus they have every right to be there.

DrScholl · 28/10/2016 17:51

on pavements?

Piles of horse shit on pavements?

OP posts:
Frouby · 28/10/2016 17:51

Where would you rather they ride? Down non residential streets? Like motorways?

allegretto · 28/10/2016 17:52

Why on the pavements? I wouldn't mind on the roads. Someone will be along soon to scoop it up for their garden anyway.

scurryfunge · 28/10/2016 17:52

Because the non residential roads are fast moving and more dangerous for them maybe?

DrScholl · 28/10/2016 17:53

on tracks?. Loads of farmland and paths around here. Its a large housing estate. YOu would have to deliberately take your horse into it. Not a through road, no fields where horses are on the other side

YABU.

I love.it when the police horses maunder up my street.

And, unlike dog and cat shit, I have no problem with horse shit.

GazingAtStars · 28/10/2016 17:53

They shouldn't be on pavements but they have every right to be on the roads

BubbleGumBubble · 28/10/2016 17:53

Because there is no law that says they cant be on a residential street.
Plus i am surprised there is any horse dung left on the road.....round here they walk behind the hotse with shovels. Very keen gardeners where i live Grin

DrScholl · 28/10/2016 17:53

its the shitting that irks
DOgs cant shit like that ( and their shit way smaller)

DO horse owners not perhaps think they have some obligation to tidy up?

OP posts:
DrunkenUnicorn · 28/10/2016 17:53

They have every right to be on public roads, residential or not.

YABU

DrScholl · 28/10/2016 17:54

they might have a right
but do they not thin tidying up shit is an obligation?

OP posts:
MollyRedskirts · 28/10/2016 17:54

Eh? How do you expect the riders to pick it up?

BubbleGumBubble · 28/10/2016 17:55

Dog shit stinks and carries nasty bugs.

Horse shit doesnt.

MrsAukerman · 28/10/2016 17:55

Horses are veggie and their poo doesn't smell bad and as already mentioned it's an extremely good fertilizer.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/10/2016 17:55

"DOgs cant shit like that ( and their shit way smaller)*

That's because dogs are omnivores - vegan shit is way less unpleasant and hazardous - it's basically just grass, and doesn't even smell.

VixenLupin · 28/10/2016 17:56

Their shit is grass so it's not stinky like carnivore dog shit, also it's massive so easy to avoid walking on it.

Who's going to hold the horse while the owner picks up the muck?

It doesn't bother me seeing them riding down the streets here, there's countryside but I guess it's good to get horses used to all sorts of places.

DrunkenUnicorn · 28/10/2016 17:56

They don't have an obligation to tidy it up. Hmm

Tracks? Most riders would like to avoid roadwork where possible but most bridlepaths are few and far between and accessed by roads.

Residential housing estate will at least provide a safer space- less likelihood of speeding cars and less busy

PipesTheGhost · 28/10/2016 17:57

My dad used to shovel the horse shit up and put it on the flower beds 💩

Compared to dog poo or cat poo, horse poo is relatively inoffensive.

Plus, as it's bigger, it's harder to not notice it and accidentally stand in it.

Penfold007 · 28/10/2016 17:58

Locally we have race horses, happy hackers and police horses. Some of the none road spaces are designated shared people/horse/cycle paths doesn't seem to be a problem. We also have a strong Romany Gypsy and Traveller presence so we even get the odd horse in a front garden for a few hours. We all seem to muddle along. Horse poo is much sought after by keen gardeners.
