Horses in residential streets

Why do horse riders think it is ok to go onto residential srreets ( not a through road to a field or anything) and let their horses shit all over the pavements and roads?

Personally I think horses should be banned from public roads. Times have moved on.

Goady. So how are we supposed to get to the bridle paths? Where I am, you have to go on a road to get to the bridle path. My horse is not as yet able to levitate.

We don't need bicycles either, or walking for that matter......

Horse box?

If you must own a horse, although god knows why you'd want to, place it somewhere that doesn't create havoc with other road users and leaves shit rotting for weeks.

Teezyweezy · 29/10/2016 00:18

If you put fresh horse shit on your plants it will burn them Grin

OhNoNotMyBaby · 29/10/2016 00:22

Well, this has cheered me up! Royston love your post.

People! they are horses FFS! not gas guzzling dangers to life and limb. I love seeing horses - we should have more of them. Does no-one love Jilly Cooper any more?

Seriously, are we so far removed from nature / wildlife / history / enjoyment / hobbies / agricultural heritage... that we now need to ban any such reminders...

Puddingandpiee · 29/10/2016 00:22

YABU!!

They have every right to be on the road, wherever that road maybe. They could be going to see a relative on their travels..

TaraCarter · 29/10/2016 00:25

modernladee, Are you sure you've thought this through?

Imagine the queues of horseboxes between bridleways and stables every day.

Cherrysoup · 29/10/2016 00:26

Horse box

YABVVVU. For the sake of one road? I should use the horse box and a gas guzzling 4x4 to convey my horse down one road? Dying laughing at the idea!

CanadianJohn · 29/10/2016 00:28

Some police horses wear diapers. This pix is from South Carolina, I believe.

Cherry, it'll be modernladeee dying of road-rage, if you and all the other horse-owners actually go and do it.

Weekends on the roads near stables will be Hell On Earth. (grin)

SpunkyMummy · 29/10/2016 00:45

Many farmers actually don't allow people to ride on their paths...

So what? It's perfectly organic plant poo. You could scoop it up and use it for your flowers.

I don't understand why you're so upset.

salsmum · 29/10/2016 00:45

I see many folks are mentioning that the op is ignorant to the fact that horse poo is good for her garden...maybe the op hasn't got a garden so would not appreciate the 'benefits' I love animals and regularly drive passed a spot where there are stables and a bridal path but still see horse Shyte in the middle of the narrow pavements in the streets near the stables. I do love to see horses and regularly visit stables where some of these horses are ...BUT I also have a daughter who is in a wheelchair who would have to drive onto the dual carriageway to avoid these heaps on the narrow pavement so what would others suggest I'd do? Horses do carry some parasites in their poo and should be regularly wormed. The girls where I go to the stables do dismount to go into corner shops and carry the goods etc when they ride back so some horses are more than able to accept a carrier bag on their saddles.

SpunkyMummy · 29/10/2016 00:50

salsmun is some horse shit really this bad? (Honest question)

I mean, there is some really disgusting stuff on streets. The horse poo doesn't seem like it would make a real difference, TBH.

ADishBestEatenCold · 29/10/2016 00:58

" but still see horse Shyte in the middle of the narrow pavements in the streets near the stables"

Shyte?

Is that posh poo, salsmum?

SporkLife · 29/10/2016 01:28

is some horse shit really this bad? (Honest question)

If you get it on your wheelchair wheels, yes, it treks into a house and you have to push the wheels covered in horse shit, so the chair and hands will be covered in shit, not pleasant.

People who ride their horses on paths are arseholes, get on a bridleway, field, road but not a path.

SpunkyMummy · 29/10/2016 01:32

Well, I disagree. People have the right to use the paths for leasure activities (like riding, riding a bike etc...).

SporkLife · 29/10/2016 01:38

People have the right to use the paths for leasure activities (like riding, riding a bike etc...).

They don't though, your not suppose to ride your bike on the path unless it's a cycle path

salsmum · 29/10/2016 01:40

EVERYONE has the right to enjoy the pavement I don't want my daughter to be forced into the road in her wheelchair when a horse rider has the choice to use the bridle ways instead of the pavements my daughters access 'choices' are limited enough...would you expect someone to push a prank/ buggy into the road to get around a pile of steaming horse shit ???

Careforadrink · 29/10/2016 01:41

I lived in Canada and the horses wore diapers. It was all collected. No mess.

Bit behind here.

salsmum · 29/10/2016 01:42

Pram not prank Confused

Janey50 · 29/10/2016 01:43

You cannot even begin to compare horse shit to dog/cat shit. Why else would gardeners spread it on their gardens? You wouldn't find them doing that with dog or cat shit!

Janey50 · 29/10/2016 01:45

Nappies for horses! Halloween GrinHalloween GrinHalloween Grin

DoYouRememberJustinBobby · 29/10/2016 01:57

I saw hang everyone who leaves their property not in a car. Simple.

DoYouRememberJustinBobby · 29/10/2016 01:59

Sorry, nappies for horses? Are they reusable?
