Hi,
Please let me know what you think. I'm going to a christmas party for my husbands work do at a country house hotel where everyone gets dressed up. I'm 40, good figure, good hair, not so good face. AIBU to wear this tight pink Karen Millen body con dress? Or is it too young for me? My husband thinks so......I'm prepared for harsh remarks - I'd rather get them online than on the night!!! Thanks!!! ( I do have a black bolero to cover up with to start off the night).

I think the dress looks cheap - certainly not a dressy Christmas do outfit.

Boolovessulley · 26/10/2016 12:36

I think the dress looks lovely.
I'd wear it and I'm older than you.

Vintagegirl1 · 26/10/2016 13:00

Wear what the hell you want op! Personally it's not my style of dress but if you like it go for it. I have just bought a lacy, sheer bodysuit from ann summers which I am planning on wearing with a leather pencil skirt. I am 41 and a size 16 to boot!

peanutpumpkin · 26/10/2016 13:20

maybe this should be AIBU for wearing pink to a christmas do!

Don't let anyone put you off! If that's the dress you like go for it!!

thecatneuterer · 26/10/2016 13:54

I'm 54 and consider that dress too old for me Blush. I would certainly wear something shocking pink and skin tight though (which is what I was expecting from the title).

I agree with everyone else - just wear what you like. I don't like that particular dress much myself but, if you do, wear it.

peanutpumpkin · 26/10/2016 18:42

I didn't realise the dress was out of date! I look online and there are lots like in in high street shops....I thought it was just a nice halter neck......

  • your DH is a dick for saying you're too old to wear something
  • wear whatever the fuck you like
  • that dress is ugly as fuck
  • and not worth 80 odd quid
Agerbilatemycardigan · 26/10/2016 19:48

Wear what you want OP. Unless you're in the habit of telling your husband what to wear, tell him mind his own business.

Poor OP is probably either going to wear safe old black, or think "to blazes with them all" and turn up in some Cher number!

Boolovessulley · 27/10/2016 10:46

Is a good job we all like different things.

Wear it if you like it op.
Who wants to look the same as everyone else?

NipSlipper · 27/10/2016 10:47

Definitely wear it!

I wear body con dresses to work, FGS. OK, long sleeved, dark coloured ones...but body con all the same. I'm 39.

Fook it Grin

Go for it. It's a lovely dress.

peanutpumpkin · 30/10/2016 08:57

thanks! :)

I like it. I'm older than you and I'd wear it. Perhaps I'd want a shrug to keep me warm, but I wouldn't feel shameless wthout one!I wouldn't ask anybody's permission either! but like some of the other posters I think £85 is quite a lot for a second hand dress that you can't try on.

DamePastel · 30/10/2016 09:02

Hang on, your husband thinks you're too old for that safe dress? Confused

Is he trying to keep you in your place because he's a bit overweight and balding by any chance? My only harsh comment is for your husband.

OdeToAutumn · 30/10/2016 09:11

Definitely not too old. I was expecting shocking pink, really short and tight.

I personally don't like the dress, especially the colour and agree with another poster that KM dressss can come up small so would be reluctant to buy off eBay without trying on first.

I also think there's nothing wrong with husband giving his opinion, though it depends on how it was said. I give my opinion on my husbands clothes and ask for his on mine, though he knows nothing about clothes so I generally ignore Wink

maybeanybodyelse · 30/10/2016 09:16

I think it's a bit old for you, to be honest, because it's a very dated style (eyelash lace???).

You could do a lot better with that budget - try Whistles?
