AIBU to wear a tight pink body con dress when I'm 40?

Hi,
Please let me know what you think. I'm going to a christmas party for my husbands work do at a country house hotel where everyone gets dressed up. I'm 40, good figure, good hair, not so good face. AIBU to wear this tight pink Karen Millen body con dress? Or is it too young for me? My husband thinks so......I'm prepared for harsh remarks - I'd rather get them online than on the night!!! Thanks!!! ( I do have a black bolero to cover up with to start off the night).

Not sure I'd wear it for a Christmas party. It's a bit of a summery colour in my opinion. No comments on style / age!

It's not too young in my view, but for 85 quid I'd want new.

I think the colour makes it cheap looking.
There is a Cadbury purple one on the same page down below. Same style, but look more classic.

I think you could definitely find something much classier but if you love it then that's all that matters.

I think the colour is the thing I dislike the most about it but I despair of people telling others not wear stuff because it's 'too old'.

There's a pair of silver boots on an S&B thread at the moment that most have poo-pooed. I think they're lovely so there we are. Grin

they are too old obvs.

Like others, I would have a concern about the colour. It would only suit a certain kind of colouring. It would do nothing for me.

As for age; it doesn't matter. Aged 51, I wore a cobalt blue bandage dress to a 30th birthday party and compared well against all the pretty young things. imho

That's so overpriced!

I had this dress (in another colour) over 6 years ago and I'm sure it didn't cost that much even new.

I can tell you that even in a size 10 it really isn't the most flattering of dresses and shows off absolutely everything with no where to hide.

I think if you're slim, you can get away with it. Definitely not too old for the style.

However, I don't think it's a good Christmas party dress - totally wrong.

If you feel good in it wear it. You'll probably look better than most half your age anyway. I'd wear it and I'm 40!

Crunchy is right , the dress is horrible. It's very summer wedding circa 1998.

You sound like me OP and I'd wear it (although it'd have to bright not pale for me).

I find Karen Millens come up small, I'm a 10/12 but definitely need a 12 in KM.

It's overpriced but you are definitely not too old.

I think you should wear what you want but that dress isn't very nice

You can get something much nicer for that price.

I can't understand why people are saying the dress isn't very nice, it all depends on personal opinion! I think ballet pumps are hideous but wouldn't dream of telling everyone else that they shouldn't wear them, that's just my personal opinion!

I think your age is irrelevant, i'm not sure it's the right dress for a Christmas do, mainly because of the colour. It looks more like a wedding or garden party dress to me.

Sorry OP Grin Hope you find something fabulous to wear

I agree that you should wear what you like BUT it's not very Christmass partyish. The colour is far too pale.

Buy something else you like.

If your husband doesn't think it's appropriate, I wouldn't wear it - no point making dh feel uncomfortable/awkward/embarrassed around all his work colleagues.

In terms of the dress, I don't think the colour suits the occasion and time of year.

You'd be much better off buying something you can try on in the shops. I'm not keen on that dress but nothing related to your age.

Ha! I thought from the reactions, it was going to be some uber trashy creation! Not at all!

Fuck the nasty remarks, if it makes you feel good, then wear it! Not really loving the assumption that if you are forty, you'll look 'washed out' - and I've been told that I look younger than people in their mid thirties. The point is to wear something that you feel good in.

thanks everyone, it's not a very christmassy colour I agree but I've got a few christmas do's and wanted to wear a different dress - maybe I'll stick to red! (again)

Overpriced. You can get a much nicer dress than that for £80.
I think the fabric & lace look a bit cheap, sorry :(

I wear a skintight hot pink dress and I think it looks fab and I have ten years on you.

Don't like that one at all though sorry op.
