AIBU to wear a tight pink body con dress when I'm 40?

Hi,
Please let me know what you think. I'm going to a christmas party for my husbands work do at a country house hotel where everyone gets dressed up. I'm 40, good figure, good hair, not so good face. AIBU to wear this tight pink Karen Millen body con dress? Or is it too young for me? My husband thinks so......I'm prepared for harsh remarks - I'd rather get them online than on the night!!! Thanks!!! ( I do have a black bolero to cover up with to start off the night).

I think the dress is just OK and tbh for that price.I'd want more than OK. You're not to old though at all.

crunchymum I never normally react to comments on here but I find yours a bit Confused . I'm pregnant ATM so obviously a different shape but pre pregnancy I was a.size 12-14 with a healthy bmi. I have to wear a 14 as I have an hour glass type figure with very large bust and high up wide hips. My waist is actually small and tummy looks nice and flat in the right underwear. I wear bodycon style dresses almost every day as they are the dresses that suit my figure best. The way one persons figure is at a 14 can be completely different to another woman's so to say a size 14 can't wear a bodycon dress is ridiculous

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/10/2016 21:13

I disagree completely that a size 14 is too big for a bodycon dress, and think you should wear what you like, but I am not very keen on the dress linked - I bet there are far nicer, similar dresses for the same or less money.

Farmmummy · 25/10/2016 21:14

Love the style and the lace trim personally not dying about the colour but that is just me and definitely not too young

Ilovetorrentialrain · 25/10/2016 21:15

I'd go for a darker coloured, more Christmas evening do type dress. I think you may regret that one on the night. But the way though nothing wrong with the shape etc, just go for whatever style you like. 40 isn't old enough to think like that.

GreyBird84 · 25/10/2016 21:15

If you like it buy it but I think you could get something a lot nicer for the money. The colour is a bit wishy washy & more suited to summer (maybe you are not UK though!).

It's not a typical looking Karen Millen dress but like AP they usually look really well on,

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 25/10/2016 21:15

Sorry, seem to have stumbled into 1952 where husband's choice of attire is The Rule. I'll check back in to 2016.

missmoz · 25/10/2016 21:17

You're never to old to wear anything.

But something like this might be a bit more christmassy (but still figure hugging)

leaveittothediva · 25/10/2016 21:17

I like the style but would rather it was in a definite colour. Forty is definitely not too old for a bodycon dress. This would suit someone with a good tan. Nice style of dress though.

peanutpumpkin · 25/10/2016 21:18

thanks and keepingupwiththejoneseys I'm similar. I'm very tall so size 14 seems ok.

Just wondered if halter neck was too revealing but seems most people think it's ok they don't like the dress!! I may find something different then.

*Or big to wear anything

Ilovetorrentialrain · 25/10/2016 21:19

What about something in a lovely plum, midnight blue or black? The pink is very summery.

peanutpumpkin · 25/10/2016 21:21

thanks mismoz nice dress but I have wide shoulders and big arms from swimming so I need either sleeves or more skin showing on my top half so I don't focus attention on arms. I'm leaving this thread now to have a look around, thanks for all your help!

Rachel0Greep · 25/10/2016 21:21

Definitely not too old for it, absolutely not! I agree though, it's not a very Christmassy colour.

ProseccoBitch · 25/10/2016 21:22

OP all that matters is that YOU like the dress not some random people on the internet!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 25/10/2016 21:24

god knows how old she is made me laugh a lot.

I don't like it very much (sorry!) I think for £85 you could get something gorgeous and fresh that still meets all your requirements.

Chopstick17 · 25/10/2016 21:25

It looks fine. I was expecting a shiny rubber thing for some reason. Enjoy!

Wdigin2this · 25/10/2016 21:26

It's a nice dress, if you like it and feel good in it...wear it!

Estilou · 25/10/2016 21:30

40 is def not too old. I wore bodycon pre last pregnancy at about 36. However I wouldn't say that is proper bodycon and especially for the price there are nicer dresses out there. Once I have my figure back I will wear what I want. Obviously nothing vulgar or prob with cut out bit etc which I think is reserved for the under 30s.

londonrach · 25/10/2016 21:32

The colour would drain most people. Sorry.

mum2Bomg · 25/10/2016 21:33

Wear the dress!

mum2Bomg · 25/10/2016 21:34

My sister is 45 and would look awesome in that!

Crunchymum · 25/10/2016 21:35

Apologies. I am short and a size 14. Definitely can't get away with bodycon!!!

Of course size 14 varies and some people will be able to pull off the unforgiving bodycon.

It's still not a nice dres's though, I'm sure you'll be able to find something much nicer.

notangelinajolie · 25/10/2016 21:55

DD1 has a very similar KM dress to this in her wardrobe. She bought it quite a few years ago (cost around £180 in 2009) so it is not a new design. She has only worn it once but can't bear to let it go.

I love Karen Millen, her dresses are always beautifully made. My daughters dress has organza roses on the bottom and it doesn't have the black detail so it is not exactly the same dress but the way fabric is cut in the bodycon style and the zip fastening at the back is identical. I imagine the dress is lovely in real life and I am sure the photo does not do this dress justice. DD's is champange colour - it is difficult to tell from the photo if it is the same colour as this. If it is anything like my daughter's dress you will look a million dollars. It is made from quality fabric (I think it is silk with a slight give), fully lined and boned.

Size 14 in this dress is not big! DD's is a 12 and it is tiny!

I say go for it!

albertcampionscat · 25/10/2016 21:58

It's a bit french maid.

Normally I'd say your DH is being out of order, but as it's his work do he might have a better view than you do of what clothes work and what don't in that context. That dress might look a bit much in a small c conservative profession's party.

peanutpumpkin · 25/10/2016 22:17

awww thanks notangelinajolie - I like it so I might give it a chance!
