Scotland does have a nuclear bunker though -

Under a farmhouse... not our house.

But you people are right. Worrying is useless. I just need to do something fun. Something to burn energy!

I think I've been... what's the word. Making my worries worse and worse by getting caught up in it?

And thinking about a zombie apocalypse is more interesting. I think we'd need horses. I expect us to run out of petrol really soon...

No ta, I've seen Threads.
I don't fancy scraping at frozen ground with a hoe, until I die a premature death from overwork and radiation poisoning.
Put my name down for being very close to the blast.

I think you just want to do something. Anything that's purposeful.

You sound as if you're feeling tossed around like a small boat on a raging sea right now.

It will be better tomorrow. Smile

cozie true, I should sleep. The morning is smarter than the evening, after all.

It's not that I worry a bout zombies, btw

I would want to be be in the blast zone (over in seconds), cant imagine why anyone would would want to live in a post nuclear apocalyptic 'mad max' world.

Thinking about nuclear war is very depressing. Thinking about a zombie apocalypse is quite fun though, it's far enough removed from reality to make the planning interesting. Me and my friends have it all worked out.
Until it actually happens, of course. Not so much fun when the zombies have breached your perimeter.

When is your baby due? I got unaccountably worried about curtains for the baby's room about a week before she arrived. I cried when my sewing machine broke halfway through making said curtains, quite inconsolably. The curtains were a side issue as she slept in our room for about seven or eight months. Perhaps you are just having a weird nesting moment?

Ages and ages, Greenifer. Smile

Wanting a bunker is perfectly reasonable, think I might have even got the go ahead to build one in the garden

Sounds like you are worrying a bit excessively though and if you have already had a look in Preppers section and are fairly well sorted then you are further ahead than most

WeArePregnant11 · 25/10/2016 23:39

Nah, it's way to early for nesting. The baby is due the 14th of a June.

So, still a loooot of time to start nesting.

You'll all be fine. Smile If you're anxious, check you're OK for floods and power cuts - which it sounds as if you are - and go to bed for a good sleep.

Just seen your post, sorry to assume your DP is a guy. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

Oh now, no need to feel sorry. I used gender neutral words, and seeing as most DPs of pregnant women are men that was a fair assumption to make, I think. And thank you 😊 For the well wishes.

cozie we have enough food for 4 weeks, (although 4 boring weeks, and only about 2 weeks to eat without some kind of cooking opportunity) water for 1 week (but a pretty generous week) and bleach and water purifying thingies.
First aid stuff, not sooo first aid stuff, flashlights, candles, buckets, camping stuff, soap, sanitizer, other stuff. That's what my mama taught me Blush

but if these are normal in op's country, it will feel very weird not to have one here. the government have probably been promoting the idea so they don't get a lot of flak for people having to pay for them . they have probably been over selling the dangers or the possibility of dangers as well, so normal that op thinks she needs one.

Sounds good. Now you can go to bed prepared. Smile

Best wishes on your pregnancy Grin

I think it's a time when all sorts of thoughts and concerns come to the fore!

Hormones and a general change of perspective given the knowledge of the new life within you can alter your stance on a whole raft of issues - well it did for me :-)

I'm with most posters on the bunker TBH. Most (non military) ones are only designed to sustain you for a few weeks/months. I'd rather go out in the blast.

I think it's your urge to protect that is speaking here so maybe channel that more realistically and more modest scale? Childproofing your home for example?

I didn't get an urge to nest but I was ansty as hell. I just worked right up to the birth (in work on Wed and DS was born noon Thurs). It's not for everyone by any means but just find an outlet that works for you.

Best wishes!!!

We have an Anderson shelter in our garden, still with its horseshoe nailed above the door over seventy years ago. Not sure how much use it'd be in a nuclear war, though.

You may probably be right. It's possible that I'm feeling like an anti-gun control advocate without their handgun or something...
Bunkers were deemed necessary in,,, 2005?6 in Switzerland. They're just a thing.

Groups sometimes also use them to sleep in. Like, choir groups, for example (which is what I've experienced).

Eats our house has already been childproofed Blush

Plus, were looking into buying one, so. Oops?

where does one even look to buy a bunker in Scotland? Confused I really don't understand tbh realistically ww3 is not going to happen but even if it did a bunker is not much use when your out at work or the kids are at school and what do you do post ww3 when you come out of the bunker and 99% of us are dead as we don't have bunkers!

Report
WeArePregnant11 · 26/10/2016 00:36

Well... I thought we'd hire somebody to build the bunker in the house we're planning on buying.

I guess I'd have to consider petitioning the school or something? Or asking my father? I didn't think this far ahead, tbh Blush
