Uhm, yeah, that's basically the whole question.

Yabu, I'd not want to survive and certainly wouldn't want to know it was happening. Have you ever seen Threads?

Threepineapples · 25/10/2016 20:57

It's not so much about the bunker itself, but more the insight you get into what would actually be going on outside it

WeArePregnant11 · 25/10/2016 20:57

What is Threads?

A truly scary film about the start of a nuclear war, it was filmed up north somewhere back in the 80s.

Well, in my birth country the governement came to the conclusion that fallout shelters could also be used for certain terrorist attacks with dirty weapons, natural disaster or chemical accidents.

I seriously love Scotland. But it's just starting to feel so unsafe. :(

If you live near a nuclear plant or weapons you are actively encouraged to have one !

Some of these look really nice:

Maybe I will build one in my back yard. :)

Daydream007 · 25/10/2016 21:09

YABU. Better off dead than a survivor in a nuclear holocaust. You have nil to worry about, I remember the Cold War and the threat of nuclear war and I'm still living!

wasonthelist · 25/10/2016 21:10

YABVU - what good do you think having a shelter would actually do?

As for public ones it would cost billions to make provision for everyone - very low down my list of public expenditure priorities.

MrsDc7 · 25/10/2016 21:11

It's normal to feel like that OP. I remember the first time I flew on an aeroplane with my two DC. I could have puked the whole way worrying about the plane crashing. I've flown all my life and never once worried before. Kids are a game changer

WeArePregnant11 · 25/10/2016 21:11

These do look nice.

The bunkers I remember weren't that nice.

So, maybe I have to be content with the food storage... or somehow convince my spouse that we need one.

And then check whether there are kindergarten and schools nearby with one.

I'd rather be right under the bomb tbh

^this

It's not that bad cost wise. Where I'm from there's more than 110% coverage for the whole population... and there are guns.

Gosh. I'm starting to be crazy.

What if somebody burglarizes our house? Wants to abduct the kid? I'm just so anxious. And feeling so irresponsible that I didn't think more about this before deciding to have a baby!!

DinnerIsDrivingMeBONKERS · 25/10/2016 21:15

Where are you from?
I would love to have one but hope
To never use it!

WeArePregnant11 · 25/10/2016 21:17

Switzerland.

Of course I don't want to use it. But I'd hate needing one and not having one...

OP posts:
SporkLife · 25/10/2016 21:17

I think the op will be from Switzerland ? Why anyone would want to try and survive nuclear war is beyond me, I'd rather it landed square on top of me, then be part of the rebuilding crew when they emerge from the bunker months/years later

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 25/10/2016 21:18

I don't know which country you grew up in but Scotland, in the worldwide scheme of things, is a very safe place.

There are no earthquakes, no huge wild fires that I'm aware of & has as low a chance of being hit by a nuclear attack than any other I can really think of.

Undersmile · 25/10/2016 21:19

I'm guessing you're from Switzerland? They still have to be maintained/inspected, don't they?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 25/10/2016 21:19

Sorry x-posted. I see it's Switzerland.

WeArePregnant11 · 25/10/2016 21:20

Switzerland. Also very safe. But also prepared!

I feel like the worst mother-to be that i didn't think of this before.
It's driving me crazy.

A bunker is also a bit like a panic room. Never needed one. But who knows what I could do if somebody wanted to burglarize us.

OP posts:
SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 25/10/2016 21:22

Also gun crime in the U.K. is very low. Mainly due to guns not being readily available.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 25/10/2016 21:22

Tbh unless you plan to live on the shelter and never leave then it maybe of no use anyway.

I agree with pp. I'd rather be under the bomb.

pugsake · 25/10/2016 21:23

YABU my dad was navy now he does something with submarines.

He doesn't think any nuclear attacks will happen till our grandchildren's generation.

He could also just be talking shite.

SporkLife · 25/10/2016 21:24

If someone was in your house robbing you, how would you get passed them to get to the basement anyway. If you keep thinking of the what ifs you'll get yourself so wound up, the whole population of Scotland manage without a nuclear bunker in the garden and nothing bad has happened to them so far!
