I never thought I'd turn into the sort of person who liked a certain mug or wine glass .....

... I used to mock my mother for requesting a certain tea cup. But I've found myself noticing if DH makes me a coffee and its in the 'wrong' mug Blush, and I've just gone back into the kitchen to tip my wine into another glass.

I'm officially old and I've turned into my mother.

I only like my tea (builders brew) in thick, big, white mugs. For me, tea in a bone china, fine mug tastes weak and washy.
Not so bothered about what I drink my wine from, but I do like a big glass of water/coke and it must be icy cold, nothing worse than a 'warm' cold drink or a tepid hot one.

StStrattersOfMN · 25/10/2016 15:35

Lid.

I really want that Emma Bridgewater Alice mug Halloween Envy

BabyGanoush · 25/10/2016 15:37

I have a favourite mug. I had a clever moment last week, and bought 2 more.

I have a second favourite too

And a third

And DH KNOWS which these are Grin

sad, sadder, saddest

stephanielittl7 · 25/10/2016 15:58

I have a favourite coffee mug and a mug which i only drink tea from. Ive even got a mug at my DGrans house that is mine and mine only. And my best friend has a mug at my house which she brought round especially for her use and her use alone. And in her younger days when my DGran was more mobile and used to go to the local club she had her seat and woe betide anyone who sat in it Grin

Charley50 · 25/10/2016 16:16

I've never associated having a favourite mug or glass with aging. I think it's completely normal. Didn't you all have favourite mugs as children? I had my special bunnies mug for my hot chocolate. Still have it but have other favourites now.

I find people who don't care what they drink out of, odd, and ended one relationship because of his shit taste in mugs.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/10/2016 16:17

I get very cross when someone has the temerity to drink tea out of my coffee mug. I don't care that it washes off - I don't want my coffee mug polluted with tea!

FairNotFair · 25/10/2016 16:19

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered Actually, lovely SIL refused to contemplate the stupid thimble-glasses, and they dredged out a proper wine glass for her too!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 25/10/2016 16:34

Speckledy was it the brown smarties mug?

I have particular favourites depending on where I am! It's very scientific!

Tea
My house- Cath Kidston large mug...preferably clouds but will take stripes also

Work A-not a single suitable mug for tea sadly

Work B-mug I made my bosses for Xmas with kids pics on!

DPs house- a very delicate bone China one

Best Friends house- a huge thick Morrisons thing

water
Biggest glass I can find with straight edges (none of this curvy pint glass crap)

coffee
China Starbucks venti size mug....I have one in all of the above houses 😬

tshirtsuntan · 25/10/2016 16:35

I have a special mug for when I'm ill, it's a 1977 silver jubilee mug and must only ever contain honey and lemon (because it makes you betterGrin)

bluebellation · 25/10/2016 16:44

DH couldn't understand why I told him off for using MY Wonder Woman mug for HIS tea.

  1. He's not WonderWoman. I am
  2. The WonderWoman mug is for coffee, not tea.

The fool.

SpeckledyBanana · 25/10/2016 16:47

Yes, the brown one Smile

Bluebell, I am jealous of your Wonder Woman mug.

minesapintofwine · 25/10/2016 16:49

StStratters do you mean the one I posted? It's not Emma Bridgewater it's on Etsy £11! But don't buy the last one in stock Wink

This is my Emma Bridgewater mug

I never thought I'd turn into the sort of person who liked a certain mug or wine glass .....
minesapintofwine · 25/10/2016 16:50

I'm a sucker for twee...

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 25/10/2016 16:51

My hubby always seems to break the handles off my favourite mugs.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 25/10/2016 16:55

speckledy I'm sure I have one floating around, I'll look when I'm home tomorrow and if so, pm me your address and I'll send it forthwith!

YouCanShoveYourOtherGranny · 25/10/2016 16:57

Oh that awful moment at work when you realize someone has taken your cup. Only surpassed by finding a guest in your very own home has selected it. DH has just managed to talk shame me into ditching my fave (perfect) purple one that was chipped in two places and I am slowly, reluctantly adjusting to The Replacement.

Used to always have a fork: everywhere I went to stay, I'd pick a fork. Until on day 9 of stay at DSis's, her little guy chirps "Auntie ShoveYourGranny, why do you always use the cat food fork?" - no more special forks for me.

SpeckledyBanana · 25/10/2016 16:57

Thank you so much Lego, but I've ordered one off eBay! Grin

Please no-one post a link to a Wonder Woman mug....

SpeckledyBanana · 25/10/2016 16:59

IKWYM Granny, I nearly told MIL off for using my blue Denby one once Blush.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 25/10/2016 16:59

Hah! Well let me know if it doesn't materialise! No one should be without their favourite mug!

YouCanShoveYourOtherGranny · 25/10/2016 17:07

Bluebellation Grin

I also find I have a seat on the train and on the bus. Sometimes other bastards commuters sit there. DH told me to remember I have a face that shows what I'm thinking. Perhaps that's why it is only sometimes taken Grin

Beautyandtheyeast · 25/10/2016 17:55

I'm so glad I have this opportunity to discuss mugs with other mug people. What a beautiful thread

This is my number one mug. Anything tastes good in it. Fucking DH has become fond of it recently. I will be nipping this in the bud. If you drink out of this mug, you are blatantly challenging my position. I mean, really.

I also have a real literary cunt mug with a pic of Shelley on it. It's chipped and worn and it is my hangover student mug, for when I feel grotty

Then there's my Little House on the Prairie Mug, for tea only.

Mugs are important and should be treated with the respect they deserve. I still miss my KitKat mug. Goodnight, sweet prince.

I never thought I'd turn into the sort of person who liked a certain mug or wine glass .....
Beautyandtheyeast · 25/10/2016 17:57

I also have "my" parking space at work/toilet cubicle /seat in the staffroom etc. Come to think of it, we all do

whatstheplanphil · 25/10/2016 18:52

LBOCS2 - that is a brilliant mug ,I want one for work !

puffylovett · 25/10/2016 19:41

Omg minesapintofwine, you could've been talking to me! I have a bone China cup and saucer that I use on a wicker tray with an old knackered tea pot, that only comes out when the house is empty and clean and I'm on my own Grin

Failing that I have my favorite coffee mugs and a special one at work, everyone thinks I'm bonkers.

And I will only make coffee and eat dippy eggs using 3 particular teaspoons!!

charleyfarleysaunt · 25/10/2016 19:55

I have 4 'special' mugs (different times of day / different drinks for each)... they now live in their own cupboard, separate from all the other mugs after I discovered that DC's friend had actually had the bare-faced effrontery to use one of them

I was distraught slightly miffed and almost posted on here whether I was BU, now, thanks to this thread I know I am completely normal Grin

(would it help my case to mention that 3 of them were gifts?)
