I never thought I'd turn into the sort of person who liked a certain mug or wine glass .....

... I used to mock my mother for requesting a certain tea cup. But I've found myself noticing if DH makes me a coffee and its in the 'wrong' mug Blush, and I've just gone back into the kitchen to tip my wine into another glass.

I'm officially old and I've turned into my mother.

There's only one wine glass I like.

My sister served me prosecco in a mug once I went spare.

I got rid of all the mugs that annoyed me a few years ago and bought new you wouldn't believe how much my stress levels went down. Bought new but inexpensive ones. I have been eyeing up some lovely ones in our local department store though

pklme · 25/10/2016 10:01

But don't we get wound up when toddler tantrums over the wrong colour cup/plate what ever? My kids wound me up doing this but now I've joined them in the 'my mug' gang. Everyone in my house has a preferred glass except my ASD husband who isn't fussy. Now that is odd.

gamechangenamechange · 25/10/2016 10:23

Like a tall, wide mug. Needs to be white inside. Hate curved mugs & those narrow flared at the top ones. Not at all a fan of cups, splashy. No little handles, you have to rest your finger against hot mug to balance them. Don't like drinking from or eating off chipped china. Tiny glasses are a no go unless for cocktails. Narrow glasses should not be used at all. Rarely buy a spirit based drink out because of those standard tall, narrow glasses. Wine glasses should be bubble thin. No metal rims (you can taste them), no coloured glass, no cut glass, no plastic.

My husband has a mug he uses (that he spent a long time searching for one to spec) and I have three I alternate. We are well suited (a pair of pain in the arses)

Count me in, BigSandyBalls!!

I don't have particular preferences about glasses, but ohhh boy do I have them about mugs!

Coffee, in the morning, is in my favourite mug - a big one from Tesco that says MY BIG MUG on the side of it. I can microwave it, so I can heat up the milk for my coffee, and reheat the coffee if necessary, and it holds a pint of coffee - which is nearly enough to make me able to function as a human being.

Sadly they don't do this mug any more. They do an I Heart Coffee mug, but that is just Not The Same. I have seen mugs the same size in ASDA, but not with the right wording on, and I have never seen the same mug available online, so I am really worried about what happens when this mug breaks - it is already chipped. Sad

I do have a one pint Emma Bridgewater mug, that dh got me for Christmas last year - and it has my name on it. It is beautiful, and I do like it a lot, but you can't microwave it - for some reason it gets scaldingly hot (I burned my hand on it recently), so it is not as practical as My Big Mug.

I used to have a one pint Burleigh calico mug - that was my previous favourite mug - but they have stopped doing it, and I can't find it on ebay either (except in the US, and shipping would cost way too much).

myfavouritecolourispurple · 25/10/2016 12:41

I'm like the OP - I drink tea in a tea mug (proper china) and coffee from a coffee mug (from Denby) and I don't like them being the wrong way round! They just taste different.

And I am fussy about what sort of spoon I use to "eat" soup too, the shape makes a difference to the flavour.

cansu · 25/10/2016 12:47

Yes me too. I usually buy one nice mug that I like to drink my coffee from. I recently broke it and have had to superglue it! I will be buying some more of these. They are not specially expensive but just seem right!

myfriendnigel · 25/10/2016 13:01

My best mate and I bought one of the same mug each on a visit to Niagara Falls. It's a beauty-just the right size and chunkiness and a fetching moose design on it.
She dropped hers and was devastated.ive searched everywhere for another one for her, but to no avail.
She frequently eyes up mine when she comes over. She isn't getting it.

heron98 · 25/10/2016 13:25

When I go swimming, I have "my" cubicle, "my" locker and "my" shower. I am most put out if they are in use.

Fortunately I go first thing in the morning when there are a lot of regulars who also have "theirs" so it's quite a rare occurrence.

HuskyLover1 · 25/10/2016 13:46

When I visit my parents we drink plenty of wine they sometimes give me my wine in a glass tumbler (no stem). I just can't do it! I find a wine glass and tip it in to that instead.

FairNotFair · 25/10/2016 14:04

I went to Giraffe at the weekend. They serve wine in little squat glass tumblers. So very wrong.

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 25/10/2016 14:24

Nope, nbu - I have my own mug at home, one at my parents and one at both workplaces. I've found myself becoming more attached to them and that I have started to hide them in random places. Blush Blush

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 25/10/2016 14:50

Aagh, I have found my people

FairNotFair - I know! Giraffe IBVU - I once managed to get them to serve me my wine in the only wine glass on the premises, and I was the subject of envious stares all evening from other customers!

glueandstick · 25/10/2016 14:51

We have a cupboard full of mugs. They have very specific uses. Morning coffee has to be from one, tea from another and hot chocolate from a different one. Evening coffee is another one entirely.

I have become one if those types.

It's all about the mug/cup I have 6 travel mugs for work everyone knows not to touch or it will be mentioned in morning briefing Grin they are glass or china no plastic for my tea!!
At home I have only mugs/cups I like if I don't like it it's binned no matter who got it for us!!! DH just goes along as he knows I am right Wink

BitOutOfPractice · 25/10/2016 15:09

I have a favourite mug and wine glass too - doesn't everyone?

I also have a favourite treadmill at the gym. If anyone else is on it I glare at them

Summerlovin24 · 25/10/2016 15:10

Broke my afternoon mug (smaller than morning brew mug). Gutted as it came from favourite holiday place in Scotland 600 miles away. Moral of the story is to maybe buy 2 but then you don't know at the time it will become a fave. My 1st brew of the day is in my " I ❤ NY" mug. Nervous now.....

BitOutOfPractice · 25/10/2016 15:12

heron98 I see I have a fellow gym nutter person who likes their own things there Grin

Ginkypig · 25/10/2016 15:17

I have 5 that are mine. No one else is allowed to use them!

3 are my absolute favourites

The first was a present from my work at 16 (it's got a fine line on it now though)

The 2nd was from my first visit to dp's home town about 14 years ago.

The 3rd was mine at my dads house when I was growing up.
After he died i rescued it from his house but couldn't use it for 10 years because i was too sad to use it, I got over that this year and I love it. It is my 1st fave now but I still worry about using it Blush

The 4th is good too but generally I use the ones above first.

Iv gone right off the 5th one but don't want to throw it as its unlikely I will ever be able to replace it if I like it again because it's a holiday present from somone that went to Amsterdam.

LBOCS2 · 25/10/2016 15:26

We own about 35 mugs. I use maybe six of them. DH doesn't drink hot drinks. Yet I'm not allowed to get rid of the ugly mugs he brought to our relationship spares.

I think HIBU.

This is my current favourite Grin

StStrattersOfMN · 25/10/2016 15:34

I have a favourite mug, and I confess, I only drink black coffee, and woe betide the person who bungs my mug in the dishwasher, and removed its carefully nurtured patina.

I also have a set glass for water, one of those double walled plastic ones with a lid and straw. This is because I love the taste of iced water, and drink masses, but can't stand the smell of it. The kid and straw traps the nasty water smell for me.
