The Duke of York wants his daughters to be full time Royals?

www.express.co.uk/news/royal/724136/prince-andrew-requests-princesses-beatrice-eugenie-kensington-prince-charles-queen-william

This is a Sunday Express link, not a Fail one.

So Andrew wants both of his daughters to have full time royal roles funded by the public & have larger apartments at Kensington Palace. Given that the only time I ever see them in the news is for dreadful outfits & holidays, to me they are embarrassing & a bit cringy.

Andrew is complaining that they are overshadowed by William, Catherine & Harry. But if you believe & support a system of privilege by birth such as the monarchy, then it stands to reason that the direct heirs are more important than the rest.

Does Andrew have a point & IABU?!

I don't think he looks like Michael Middleton, he has got William's very long very pointed nose already. Unfortunately. Perhaps even more unfortunately, so has Charlotte.

raisedbyguineapigs · 30/10/2016 21:26

vanilla I bet you wish you'd never brought Rev up Grin

CotswoldStrife · 30/10/2016 21:46

I think that Charlotte and George looks like Carole and Mike Middleton too.

VanillaSugarandPumpkinSpice · 30/10/2016 23:54

I'm always amazed at how in awe some people are of them. Especially when people who are famous for some remarkable achievements. It should be the royals who are in awe of them.

Yes. I wonder if any of the Royal are self aware enough to feel slightly ashamed and embarrassed that they meet people they meet in the course of their engagements bow, courtesy and are generally expected to act in a deferential manner to them.

When they are on these royal duties, they meet wonderful work in their community for no financial reward, have suffered incredible hardship and yet they are expected to put on a display of servile behaviour to people who have had their positions handed to them by an accident of birth. If anyone should be bowing to anyone it should be the other way round.

No person should be required to grovel in front of another like that. My granddad gave me a piece of advice that has stuck with me for years:

'Offer to shake the hand of any man, but bend your bloody knee to no one.'

OlennasWimple · 31/10/2016 01:21

Yes, you still haven't told us how Ambassadors got cancelled....

VanillaSugarandPumpkinSpice · 31/10/2016 07:01

I did. I did

VanillaSugarandPumpkinSpice · 31/10/2016 07:03

PA took umbrage and his people lent on the producers.

DamePastel · 31/10/2016 09:18

The more like Michael Middleton and the less like Charles they look, the luckier for them!

DamePastel · 31/10/2016 09:22

I think Charlotte will look like actress Vicki McClure when she's older.

tictactoad · 31/10/2016 09:26

Don't know who Charlotte takes after but George looks to have inherited the Spencer family chops to me. Check out his great grandad and great uncle.

VanillaSugarandPumpkinSpice · 31/10/2016 09:33

Charlotte = Vicki Pattison.

chilipepper20 · 31/10/2016 10:34

Well, it's hard to know, but I wouldn't blame them for not feeling a bit weird about it. They would simply be a reflection of society in that way. This thread is 31 pages long, and no great thinker, athlete or philanthropist in the UK would get this attention. The royals have probably met more nobel prize winners in science than people in science have. Endless charity work from people who have real jobs, community workers etc are all her "subjects".

It's not them that need to think differently. It's us.

DamePastel · 31/10/2016 12:39

Why would they lack a normal amount of self-awareness?! It's not a logical conclusion that they would be unable to contemplate the randomness of it all. So I reckon they have thought about it all.

Unicornsandrainbows3 · 31/10/2016 13:04

I've read this thread with the book 'the Queen and I' by Sue Townsend in mind. HAs anyone else read it? it's brilliant! Same author as the Adrian Mole series.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 31/10/2016 13:31

Same because they are bought up in that environment from birth with their every whim indulged, door's opened, servants at beck and call, no one saying the word 'no' to you, constantly treated as someone special, it can't be conducive to a well rounded personality.

WindPowerRanger · 31/10/2016 14:11

Forget Carl Philip. The top Royal totty is Crown Prince Haakon of Norway. He married a commoner single mother. Got a sort of hunk/geek thing going on.

His father was told he could not marry his choice of bride and said 'Fine. I'll abdicate' (story here. The government backed down. King and Queen are apparently still very happy together. Now that's the kind of Royal Family to marry into.

SenecaFalls · 31/10/2016 14:42

A similar thing happened to King Carl Gustav of Sweden. He had to wait until his grandfather died to marry Sylvia because of objections to her commoner status.

chilipepper20 · 31/10/2016 16:05

Dame I imagine they lack a lot of normal things because of their unique position. I would have trouble contemplating the randomness of it all and still have people bowing before me.

raisedbyguineapigs · 31/10/2016 16:43

Yes, doesn't Prince Charles have someone out his toothpaste on his brush in the morning? I would imagine when in their wildest dreams they couldn't know what it is like to be some of the people they meet. I think the deference will go with the older generation TBH. But while there is still faux outrage in the media if President Obama puts his arm round the Queens shoulders, the Bowing and scraping will still be there.

HoopsBouquet · 31/10/2016 17:22

Crown Prince Haakon looks like William, with dark hair and a beard. Has anyone ever seen then in the same room together?

SamanthaBrique · 31/10/2016 17:25

Wind, if the stories are true then it's a shame Prince Charles didn't show the backbone of Harald when under pressure not to marry camilla in the 70s.

QueenoftheAndals · 31/10/2016 17:26

raised I think that's an urban legend!

savedbythebell · 31/10/2016 17:56

No I think it's true about Charles and the toothpaste. He has 150 personal servants. They have to have some thing "worthwhile" to do. I've also read that if he drops a bit of waste paper on the floor he rings for his servant to come and place it in the bin. He's incredibly bone idle dependant on people.
