I've snogged every member of Boyzone, including Ronan. I am incredibly proud of this...

DP is fond of telling everyone how much the Queen Mother loved his fart joke. He was escorting her around his barracks when one of the ceremonial horses which had pulled her carriage farted, the Queen Mother said "Oh, I'm terribly sorry!" to which DP replied "Oh, I thought it was the horse!"

He says she split her sides laughing... Hmm

newnameforamoment FRANK!! I remember him! My family LOVE telling this story about how my first words to my brother after a while of not speaking/seeing him (he was abroad) were "Frank's back in home and away!!!" I was a little excitable...! Everyone laughed...in my defence I was really young then (and had no life!) heh.

I've met Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson from Neighbours) and had my picture taken with him...

I've hosted Roger Black at a work event (and bought him a coffee).

I have laughed at Ron Atkinson (he reclined his seat too fast on a plane and went flying back), also sat on Jimmy Hill's lap for a photo shudder (he suggested me and a friend take a knee each ugh!)

I spoke to my favourite author Augusten Burroughs a few years back at a book signing and he was lovely.

I've scowled at Hilary Swank - didn't mean to, I was in a bad mood and she was looking at me and I was trying to figure out who she was, it wasn't until she walked past that I realised. That's my usual MO - I see someone famous and think "oh that looks like so and so" it takes my brain about 30 seconds or more to realise it is so and so!

I don't get to meet many famous people...it's probably a good thing!

Lolimax · 21/10/2016 10:25

I used to waitress for a posh local catering firm. They did Tiggy Leggy Burkes wedding. I had to step over a very drunk and underage Prince Harry lying on the floor. But before he got into that mess I can say he likes (or liked, this was many years ago) quails eggs and had beautiful manners.

Willow2016 · 21/10/2016 10:54

Shatnerswig
What a lovely story, what a star he was. You wouldnt get many doing that these days.

Many 'z listers' could take a leaf out of 'real stars' books when it comes to being an actual human being and not a 'brand name'.

Willow2016 · 21/10/2016 11:03

Kids and I met a few childrens authors at book festivals and they have all been lovely and were great with the kids. Julia Donaldson loved out tattered copy of 'The Gruffalo' (and her family/theatre group entertained the kids while they waited in the queue) Nick Butterworth chatted to my ds2 about having same name, Ian Whybrow etc.

Autumninthe90s · 21/10/2016 11:25

I was once in a work meeting with H from Steps and when I went to introduce myself to him the first thing he said to me was, "Oh my God, you are beautiful!" Shock

I always liked a bit of Steps but I love him long time after that! Grin

Probably outed myself here as I bore the arse off everyone with this story

Some great tales on this thread!

RockyBird · 21/10/2016 11:51

I sat next to Michael Bublé in a restaurant in Holland for 2 hours. Next table, tables were spaced out but I was the closest to him. He had chicken salad and a cup of tea. I had a club sandwich and four large red wines Grin

His voice is like melted chocolate and he is a charming person.

He'd obviously overheard my friend and I having a debate about whether to speak or not. We had decided not to, to respect his privacy. He came and spoke to us before he left and posed for pictures. I wasn't a fan but was after that.

ShatnersWig · 21/10/2016 11:55

Forgot to say, contrary to other posters, when I met Paul Daniels he was really nice whereas Jeremy Irons is the most miserable fucker known to man. Kevin Whately probably the most "normal" actor I've met, really is the bloke next door, great sense of humour.

The two best? Undoubtedly Judi Dench and Angela Lansbury. When everyone says they are just totally adorable and not at all starry or divaish, they are all telling the truth. Old school, you see.

RockyBird · 21/10/2016 12:25

I love Angela Lansbury. My late grandma was her double.

ShatnersWig · 21/10/2016 12:29

The two dames are quite similar. Always a twinkle in their eye and finding fun all the time. And both love a good dirty joke!

BowieFan · 21/10/2016 12:45

I met Rex Harrison loads because him and my grandma grew up on the same street in Huyton when they were little. He was always lovely and hilarious right up until the end. I was about 14 when he died but I remember him sending my sister (a couple of years older than me) a huge bunch of flowers and a lovely gift when she got married.

I used to fly quite a lot with work. Various airport encounters include:

At Copenhagen airport: Getting the hump with a short man who wouldn't move over so I could see the boarding information clearly. As I huffed and turned to look at him (he was oblivious to my presence) I realised it was Mike Tyson...! I sneered and moved to another screen (he was oblivious to my sneer but it made me feel good psychopathic bastard that he is )

On a flight back from Istanbul, I'd been in Business Class (working in the industry had its perks as was actually booked for the arse-end of the aircraft) and was sat across from a gent in a powder-blue 3 piece suit. I noticed because my dad wore a similar suit to get married in (in 1976, this was 2001). Thought no more of it. The chap stood next to me at the luggage carousel. My colleague was doing this wide-eyed, nodding, verging on silent hysteria thing at me and I just didn't know what was up. I gathered a celebrity was nearby by but all I could see was blue-suit man and his travel companion.

Blue-Suit man gets his luggage and off he goes, my colleague exploded "OH MY GOD THAT'S JACKIE CHAN!!!!"

Me: "who?" 😂

It's taken 15 years but I now know who he is after DD made me watch the Karate Kid remake, she was beyond impressed with my claim to fame!

BowieFan · 21/10/2016 12:56

Another hilarious one about someone above their station was Cilla Black.

My brother used to work as a courier to supplement his income a bit at uni and had spent about 20 minutes buzzing to get into Cilla Black's gated house in Buckinghamshire. Eventually, a Mercedes came out of the gates and my brother walked over to it with his clipboard. Then a voice said "I'm sorry, I simply don't give autographs, I'm far too busy!" - it was Cilla Black. My brother in his very scouse accent replied: "I don't give a monkey's uncle love, I just want you to sign for your hemorrhoid cream!" Grin

Oh I have one - I saw Cara cara Delevingne about 2 christmasses ago at Gatwick airport (when the airlines stopped the flights due to bad weather) was off to Barcelona but couldn't go damned Easyjet, we were all wandering round trying to find out what was going on she was with her family wearing a beanie hat and it was so definitely her, my friend pointed her out. should have got a selfie with her!

seemed nice enough

SuperFlyHigh · 21/10/2016 12:59

oh my SIL's cousin has had a fling with David Walliams - she's an actress and worked as a waitress in River Cafe etc and met him there.

Anyway he invited her over to LA to an apartment there or whatever (as you do) - and she found evidence that she wasn't the only one (girl in his life) and was very upset) - as she's only in her mid 20s and he is his age goes to show he likes them young. She was not impressed that he was probably cheating and I think she just flew back home didn't tell him about it.

MehMehM3h · 21/10/2016 13:07

ooh I forgot my favourite one! Was out at dinner with friends - one of which had come over from the US, there was a family eating behind us and the children were kicking the back of the booth style seats - which backed on to us. My US friend told the girls off (she tried to get the parents attention first, it didn't work). Long story short, as they were leaving me and our other friend realised at the same time that my US friend had told off Christian Bale's kids! She was oblivious to it until we told her hehe.

That was brilliant [big grin]

DancingDolly · 21/10/2016 13:16

It was 95 /96? Robbie had just left Take That and I'd finished uni and moved to Newcastle under Lyme with boyfriend who was from there. Walking round record shop and peroxide blonde Robbie Williams is there! We exchanged a cheeky, flirty look and then I ran off to tell my boyf!

ShatnersWig · 21/10/2016 13:30

Bowie The Rex Harrison thing is interesting as you can almost never find one person in the business to ever have said a nice thing about him. He was pretty much the most hated guy in the business, treated women appallingly (poor Rachel Roberts committed suicide over him). He was once so rude to a woman at the stage door who was waiting just to speak to him and possibly get an autograph the woman (not young) slapped him across the face. Fellow actor remarked "for one, the fan hit the shit".

BowieFan · 21/10/2016 13:33

Yes, I heard a lot of times that he was awful to work with and to fans but I suppose he might have been different with close friends and family.

newnameforamoment - I loved Alex Papps when I was young!

GeorgiePeachie · 21/10/2016 14:24

I sold a candied apple to Michael McIntyre's son on Brighton pier. (He was also there, technically he bought it , but the son asked so I served him.)

Albadross · 21/10/2016 14:43

Ooh I forgot - Simon Pegg was at a gig I was at - it was rammed and I was standing leaning with my back to the bar, he was trying to move past facing me with his hands up, which just so happened to be at boob height. It was a little awkward and he was apologising profusely!

Albadross · 21/10/2016 14:51

If anyone knows My Chemical Romance I've known all of them for years, they came over on one of their first UK tours and we met in a bar afterwards - they came over because I was a bit of a goth and I ended up going back to their hotel and showing them around London the next day. I also lent them the money to pay for their hotel when their credit card didn't work. I've met a lot of rock bands because I used to be a journalist covering big festivals.

deadringer · 21/10/2016 15:46

Not me but my dd got to hang out with justin timberlake in a night club in LA a few years ago. She said he was lovely, very friendly and unassuming.

mum2Bomg · 21/10/2016 16:00

Used to work at The BBC and met loads.

Phil Mitchell buying a pasty at Paddington and I (drinkenly) run at him shouting "Phil!!"

Met Grant at a bar with his production team. He had a big wound on his arm. When I asked how he'd got it (thinkin about the favelas of Rio etc..) he said he burnt it on a broken thermos.

Just need to meet Peggy now.

And am friends with the drummer from The Darkness. Top bloke.

DanyellasDonkey · 21/10/2016 16:01

I have never seen, let alone met, anyone remotely famous Sad
