I've snogged every member of Boyzone, including Ronan. I am incredibly proud of this...

DP is fond of telling everyone how much the Queen Mother loved his fart joke. He was escorting her around his barracks when one of the ceremonial horses which had pulled her carriage farted, the Queen Mother said "Oh, I'm terribly sorry!" to which DP replied "Oh, I thought it was the horse!"

He says she split her sides laughing... Hmm

shovetheholly · 21/10/2016 16:04

BowieFan - Your story about being banned from going within 20 yards of Michael Gove made me laugh! Good for you!

For a very short time, I once dated a tiny-bit-famous actor who has been on several popular American TV series and a few movies.

mudandmayhem01 · 21/10/2016 16:11

I see jess Ennis-Hill running in the woods or out with her dog and her toddler, buying baby stuff in Sainsburys and other such thrilling things. She always says Hi in the way runners, dog walkers do. Before she moved house my kids trick or treated her house and I am pleased to report she had sweets in!

GeekyWombat · 21/10/2016 16:24

I was pushing my screaming DD up and down outside a posh hotel whispering soothing things to stop her crying. Managing to whack the buggy straight into the legs of someone because I was so focused on her. Looked up to find myself staring into the gorgeous brown eyes of Brandon Routh, Superman himself. I went very red and stuttered out an apology, he kneeled down to chat to DS and let her hold his fingers because he was worried he'd hurt her on impact. We ended up chatting for about five minutes while he played peepo with her. So charming, really kind and very unstarry. I hadn't rated his Superman before then but I have a real soft spot for him now.

Cocolepew · 21/10/2016 16:32

Ive posted this loads of times but it's all I've got Grin
Backstage at Nirvana gig, I tripped over Dave Grohl and fell arse over tit, then had a fight with Courtney Love who is vile.
Met loads of indie type bands.
Friend supported The Beautiful South, they were all lovely.
When I was 16 I woke up and went into the bathroom to find George Best asleep in our bath.
Met Clem Burke, Blondies drummer, while buying a tshirt at a gig. I got him to sign my ticket then went away.
Then decided I needed a photo and shouted at him to come back. He did as well .
Touched Debbie Harrys hand. Made my day Blush
When I was 3 I was in a fashion show with Dame Mary Peters, but refused to go on, so she carried me down the catwalk.

Fanofjapan · 21/10/2016 16:39

We met Robin Williams when he came down in the elevator into the hotel foyer we were sitting in in New York. He started speaking to us first as I think he knew we recognised him, but were too polite to approach him. I can honestly say that he was such a nice and unassuming man. Meeting him made our holiday.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/10/2016 16:48

I met Ant and Dec when they were still PJ and Duncan - and I have their autographs

Tarttlet · 21/10/2016 17:03

Coco - why was George Best in your bath!?

shovetheholly · 21/10/2016 17:07

mudandmayhen - you must live near me, because I see her regularly in those woods too!

deadringer · 21/10/2016 17:16

Ooooh shovetheholly was it ian mcshane? (stab in the dark)

mudandmayhem01 · 21/10/2016 17:20

We have possibly outed ourselves shove, in a very innocuous thread though!

The80sweregreat · 21/10/2016 17:33

Never met anyone famous. Love these threads, same names come up as being vile everytime they come along!

maddiemookins16mum · 21/10/2016 17:41

I met Richard Gere (over 20 years ago) in Titos Bar in Goa, he was with Koo Stark of all people. He was very charming and bought me a gin.

shovetheholly · 21/10/2016 17:56

I think everyone knows I live in that city anyway! Grin

No, not Ian McShane. I have a feeling I would have way better swears if it was him though!

SapphireStrange · 21/10/2016 18:01

I used to go out with the son of the then Irish president.

I once shared a lift and some small talk with Joan Bakewell. She was impeccably dressed and groomed and was utterly charming. I LOVED her yes I know we met for about 30 seconds

Graham Norton: he was ushered into a room full of people all waiting to meet him and looked genuinely surprised and a little overawed when all our faces turned expectantly towards him. I only spoke to him in a small group of people, not directly, but he was giggly and warm and sweet, a lot like on TV.

I know someone who almost got off with Hugh Grant but he was so weird in his, er, preferences that she escaped. Grin

BillSykes, Can't recount encounter with Jude Law as Mumsnet would get sued. Oh go ON! I'm desperate to know. Just give him a fake name. Wink

Cocolepew · 21/10/2016 18:09

We had no spare beds Grin
He had been drinking (surprise) with my Dad Confused and my dad didn't know where he lived, George got too drunk to tell him. So my dad brought him home and put him in the bath.

Ginslinger · 21/10/2016 18:46

I met Princess Diana when she came to a hospital that I worked in - she was very pleasant and very aware of the work that was being done. There was no press - it was just something she wanted to be involved in.

Idontcareifyouknowwhoiam · 21/10/2016 18:55

I've crossed the road with the Green Cross Man. It was back in the late 70s, Dave Prowse came to our school and we were filmed crossing the road with him for local news.

I knew Granny Mindwarp, too. If any of you remember Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction... My mum and his gran worked together and she looked after me quite a bit, I went to one of their gigs with his cousin and we went backstage. God I'm soooo rock n roll. Grin

I love the story of Michael Winner's charitable exploits.

MerylPeril · 21/10/2016 19:12

I need to know the Jude Law story!

Cameron Diaz was on a flight with us - she was very nice and smiley and very polite and very thin!

alfagirl73 · 21/10/2016 19:12

Enjoying this thread; it's always interesting to hear what people were like in real life. I've got a few-ish!:

Johnny Depp - have met several times - absolutely lovely, kind, warm, very intelligent, funny, down to earth, easy to talk to and goes out of his way for you.
Graham Norton - very nice, friendly, funny... he embarrassed me in a wind up at work once! Also met him in the green room at his TV show.
Alan Rickman - feel very fortunate to have met him - very brief meeting but he was very pleasant
David Tennant - very nice.

Orlando Bloom - REALLY lovely - very kind, warm, easy to talk to, friendly
Simon Cowell - surprisingly very charming and nice
Ant & Dec - Very nice
Gok Wan - lovely
Calum Best - Nice bloke but is battling a lot of demons
Keira Knightley - One word - rude!
Have had dinner with Lee Arenberg (Pirates of the Caribbean and Once Upon a Time actor) - Wonderful funny man
I'm friends with Michael Praed (currently in Emmerdale) - Lovely man
Have partied with Gary & Martin Kemp a few times
Eddie Izzard - Pure class - every time
Robert Carlyle - what a LOVELY man! Could've talked to him for ages!
Jason Donovan - rude and very impatient with people
Jason Manford - Lovely

There's more but that'll do! LOL! x

BowieFan · 21/10/2016 19:13

We met Daniel Radcliffe at the stage door after we went seeing him in the musical he was doing on Broadway. He is TINY but lovely and sweet. Same goes for Elijah Wood.

We also saw Zachary Quinto on the subway who told my son he loved his t shirt (of a verrrry obscure film) and they chatted for a while about it. He was lovely and his voice was soooo smooth. Lovely, lovely man.

I walked around New York hoping to bump into Matt Bomer (at which point he would leave his husband and ask me to run away with him) but it didn't happen Sad

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 21/10/2016 19:15

Idontcareifyouknowwhoiam he came to our school too I was pictured with him I can't find the picture though Sad it was in the local paper

It was so exciting he was really nice and let us swing off his arms we thought he was the biggest man in the world I remember discussing this with our teacher

GabsAlot · 21/10/2016 19:17

people are afriad of saying cilla was rude because youre not supposed to say anyting bad about the nations sweetheart but ive heard several stories where shes brushed people off saying DUKWIA

i wold say have u forgotten?

BowieFan · 21/10/2016 19:20

Ginslinger

I met Princess Diana as well. I used to volunteer at the London Rape Crisis Centre and she visited several times without cameras and just with her bodyguard. She was a genuinely lovely woman and you got the sense she actually wanted to do something with her power - I'm incredibly proud that William and Harry seem to be carrying on their mum's legacy. It was only about 5 months before she died and when she'd resigned from a lot of charities, so you could tell this was one very close to her heart.

alfagirl73 · 21/10/2016 19:20

Meryl - that's nice to hear about Cameron Diaz - she has a bad reputation when it comes to people approaching her - but often what the press report is massively skewed.
