I hate this. All too often it's a way of denigrating what the OP is saying or asserting mental superiority.

Yes paragraphs make this easier but usually you can work out whats being said without. Same for poor spelling and typos.

Millymollymanatee · 19/10/2016 16:29

Ok, so more information needed in thread titles, point taken.

My issue with the posts without paragraphs is that they are very difficult to read, especially if it's a long post.

Paragraphs is self explanatory? Really? I'd prefer to know before I click on a thread if it's one of those dickish ones slating the members on here who maybe haves trouble with things such as paragraphs.

If I click on a thread I'm not interested in, it immediately becomes apparent and I move on. It's not necessarily possible to tell from a thread title if you're going to be interested.... just saying

OP posts:
PaulAnkaTheDog · 19/10/2016 16:34

Bothered me enough to make a point about it Smile

Millymollymanatee · 19/10/2016 16:35

Anyway, if it's important I will try and put more info if I start another thread.

I just wanted to ask if posters could put more spaces in somewhere in their posts, especially if it's a long post. Thanks.

It is much easier to read something that has gaps in it, rather than just a whole screens full of unbroken text.

One upon a time (when it was all green fields), actually up to about 3 years ago, there was a poster who used to (quietly and apologetically 'hope you don't mind op' and with no hint of criticism) just cut and re-post the barrage-of-words sorts of posts with breaks. It made then hugely easier to read.

RiverTam · 19/10/2016 16:39

It was pretty obvious what this was going to be about.

It's a valid point. How many of us have opened a thread, seen a single whopping great para and closed it straight away? People who genuinely need help and support will lose at least 50% of their audience.

There was one today that I opened, it more than filled a page in my iPad, so god knows what it must have looked at on a phone. I closed it without reading it.

PickAChew · 19/10/2016 16:44

I have tracking problems with my eyes and sometimes have to give up on posts because I can't follow them - even with paragraphs, I often skip a few lines and miss a few details and end up embarrassing myself by asking a question that's already been answered. This new font hasn't helped with that, at all.

I wouldn't dream of pulling someone up for it unless they're being a twat, though. I have in the past explained to someone that people were struggling to get the meaning of their post because of lack of formatting (but, in the same sentence commented how utterly and unnecessarily dickish some people were being about their writing style)

Having adhd I write (& read much more easily) in continous prose. If you can't read it then don't, doesn't bother me, but I am not about to change for you, this is just a discussion forum after all. If it was good enough for kerouc et al ....

YouHadMeAtCake · 19/10/2016 16:52

YANBU. If it is a huge wad of text without paragraphs, I don't bother reading it.That also applies is the poster is User1465789038297474949383828494. If they cannot do the basic thing and get a name, I am not interested in reading.

Im quite bad for it im on a tablet or phone I just forget and carry on typing in a tangent Blush. I was told off on a thread for no punctuation last week as it was too hard to read I guess if you want to read something you will make it out if not move on.

AllwaysCarryMashems · 19/10/2016 17:06

But I also find it much easier to read continous prose, so then I would find it difficult to read my posts, which I need to if sone ones referring to something I have said as short term memory problems are a big part of adHD. Clearly lots of people read them just fine as I have never had an issue getting replies & I don't have a problem with others not reading them, I don't feel I need to get 'everyones' response so if some find it hard then don't try to read them, I have an editor who reads my professional wrating for money so I don't expect others to be obligated to read it for free, equally I don't feel I need to waste precious little focus I have to suit other. No one comes here to write for others entertainment, if they are complaining about not getting replies then fair enough to advise that but other wise it's just a bit bleh. Imo. But of course you can complain about it all you like.

crispandcheesesanwichplease · 19/10/2016 17:07

I have to admit that I too sometimes give up on posts if it's just a solid wall of text, even if I started out interested in the title. And I feel bad that I'm not giving the poster my proper attention but I find solid walls difficult to follow.

I'm not having a go, just responding to the op's comment.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/10/2016 17:08

YAnBU. If I see a solid block of text my eyes just skip over it and I don't bother reading. Sorry Mashems Blush
