We chased some sheep!!

I never let my kids chase pigeons in town or torment our cats or dogs. But today I actively encouraged my adult dd to carry my 2 year old ds to chase after some sheep.

The reason being ds wanted to cuddle one!! His little face crumpled when they obviously didn't catch one. We took loads of photos instead and he has talked about his wish to cuddle one for hours now. Looks like we will be visiting our nearby kids farm when we get back off holiday!
Are we as parents unreasonable in supporting our kids dreams even if they are somewhat strange?? Should I have told him it was a ridiculous idea or to let him think he had a chance??
The sheep by the way didn't look like they cared less about having to hurry off from a skinny dd carrying a well - clothed ds up a steep grassy hill - before I get rspca flamed!

There's no way this is for real surely? Nobody is this fucking thick

ItShouldHaveBeenJessMass · 18/10/2016 21:10

Sorry, should have been 'my kids'

AcrossthePond55 · 18/10/2016 21:11

This is a reverse surely?

Because I can't believe anyone would be so stupid as to allow their child to enter a pasture with livestock in the first place, let alone chase the animals. I'm a 'transplant' (city girl moved to the country) and I never let my sons harry, chase, throw things, spook, or otherwise bother any of the livestock surrounding our property.

JellyBelli · 18/10/2016 21:11

Harry Webb - the real life vet who wrote the Herriot books - died after being headbutted by a sheep. It broke his thighbone, he died of complications.
So apart from the fact that the farmer can sue for aborted lambs, you put your kids at risk.
Leave farm livestock alone.

derxa · 18/10/2016 21:11

Don't come near my sheep you stupid fucking idiot.

dalmatianmad · 18/10/2016 21:11

Is this a wind up?? What fuking idiot let's their kids chase an animal??
Stupid idiotic woman, shame there wasn't a big ram to chase you all, wouldn't have been funny then would it?

WappersReturns · 18/10/2016 21:15

One of my rams last year shot me arse over tit about three metres through the air and was on me in an instant before I had time to scrape myself off the floor.
Usually quite a polite lad so just shows you how quickly you can be taken unawares.

He's a polled ram so aside from the danglies there's a good chance he'd be mistaken for a ewe at first glance. I'd certainly not put my money on a child telling the difference. Such a dangerous thing to do.

Ditsy4 · 18/10/2016 21:15

Your kid shouldn't have been in the field and I would have shouted at you to get out if it had been the field behind our house.
As others have said...you could abort the lambs. Farmers here lamb from December.
Teach yor child to respect animals.
You were lucky one didn't attack your child. Ewes can be pretty mean sometimes. One pushed me over when I was feeding them years ago. Sent me clean off my feet and I was 19!

Cococrumble · 18/10/2016 21:16

Anyone else imagining a toddler looking misty eyed over farm land and doing a Martin Luther Esque "I have a dream" monologue?

And yes OP YABU, and really bloody stupid!!!

ShinyBadger · 18/10/2016 21:17

I'm so glad everyone else said you were stupid! In ordered to chase sheep I take it you were in a field with them - were you on a footpath or were you trespassing?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 18/10/2016 21:18

I hope this is a wind up. Assuming it's not, you are pretty fucking stupid.

Way to teach your kid to respect animals.

ItShouldHaveBeenJessMass · 18/10/2016 21:19

There are an awful lot of 'fucking thick' and 'fucking idiot' comments on here. Yes, the OP was daft and put both her kids and the sheep in danger, but there's a difference between educating her on the error of her ways and unpleasant name calling. It certainly doesn't make you look wiser than her.

maggiecate · 18/10/2016 21:19

Next time there's a thread where someone's complaining about an 'unreasonable' farmer chasing kids away from their fields we'll know where to link. Unbelievable.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 18/10/2016 21:19

And your DD should have known better as well, although i suppose she probably doesn't, given than you think it's funny to chase sheep.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 18/10/2016 21:19

I am a sheep farmer and I would have given you a right mouthful if you had been on our farm. Most ewes are being tupped (mated) around now so hopefully you wont have caused any to abort but some lamb as early as late Dec so it is possible they could have been about half way through their pregnancy. As others have said they could have injured themselves trying to get away.
Farms are not playgrounds.

monkey1978 · 18/10/2016 21:20

I hate it when parents let their children upset animals and think it's OK or even worse funny. Idiots

MadHattersWineParty · 18/10/2016 21:20

Yabu.

But congrats! Now you're one of those parents! You know, the dicks that indulge every whim of precious little Jonny even at the expense of other living things, people's belongings, the local wildlife. As long as you had a good chuckle and got some 'adorable' pics though eh? Star

ifyoulikepinacolada · 18/10/2016 21:20

I hope this is a wind up. I'm as townie as they come and even I know it's unbelievably stupid. OP what the fuck were you thinking?!

echt · 18/10/2016 21:23

Stupid, dangerous and cruel behaviour.

Nope

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 18/10/2016 21:25

Un-fucking-believable Angry

Still, as long as your child got what he wanted, eh?

Kirriemuir · 18/10/2016 21:25

Idiotic.

Amethyst81 · 18/10/2016 21:26

Wappersreturns that is so sad your poor girl Sad
OP that really isn't on, it would have caused stress to those animals that's cruel. What would you have done if they had caught a sheep and it had attacked them in self defence? Children need to learn to respect animals, they are not just there for our amusement.
