We chased some sheep!!

Mybeardeddragonjustdied2016 · 18/10/2016 20:36

I never let my kids chase pigeons in town or torment our cats or dogs. But today I actively encouraged my adult dd to carry my 2 year old ds to chase after some sheep.

The reason being ds wanted to cuddle one!! His little face crumpled when they obviously didn't catch one. We took loads of photos instead and he has talked about his wish to cuddle one for hours now. Looks like we will be visiting our nearby kids farm when we get back off holiday!
Are we as parents unreasonable in supporting our kids dreams even if they are somewhat strange?? Should I have told him it was a ridiculous idea or to let him think he had a chance??
The sheep by the way didn't look like they cared less about having to hurry off from a skinny dd carrying a well - clothed ds up a steep grassy hill - before I get rspca flamed!

My friend has 3 sheep, she certainly cuddles them. Some animals are pets and some are not, not hard to explain that really.

originalmavis · 18/10/2016 22:12

DS wanted to be a cat when he was little. I denied him his dream.

AliceInUnderpants · 18/10/2016 22:13

Meh, kids who are 'actively encouraged' to partake in antisocial and cruel behaviour are going to grow up as shits. I'll stand by that.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 18/10/2016 22:17

You're an idiot OP. Here's hoping your kids grow up to have more sense.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 18/10/2016 22:23

Pigeons are not "just rats with wings". Pigeons are birds and rats are mammals. They are not related.
HTH Hmm

originalmavis · 18/10/2016 22:25

I prefer rats to pigeons as I really don't like birds. Never chased either. Ran away from a few.

cricketqueen · 18/10/2016 22:34

How would you like it if the sheep had chased your ds and rammed him. It fucking hurts you know, they have very hard heads.
This little game could have hurt the sheep, caused them to abort etc. But hey as long as your precious child got to follow his dreams!!!

jacks11 · 18/10/2016 22:38

OP

Are you seriously this irresponsible and foolish? I am flabbergasted!

If I caught you and your DC doing that to any of my livestock I would be livid. I may be tempted to report your behaviour to the police.

It is incredibly irresponsible way to encourage your DC to behave- animals are not toys to be messed around with for your children's entertainment (or because he wants a hug). It was also potentially dangerous- if the sheep had panicked or taken umbrage (and some breeds are more prone to this than others) your DC could have been injured.

The sheep may not have looked stressed but they can be deceiving- that and given you don't see the problem with chasing livestock in the first place, I'm not sure I would rely on your opinion on the matter TBH.

Even if they weren't distressed, you really shouldn't be doing this- livestock are part of someone's living and you ought not to be messing around with them.

Please do not do this ever again.

Topseyt · 18/10/2016 22:39

This has to be a wind up! I hope so anyway.

On the off-chance it is for real though, you were an utter twat.

I hope that this stupid post doesn't encourage any other parents to allow their children to do anything so cruel and dangerous.

BombadierFritz · 18/10/2016 22:41

bit disturbing if op is not just trolling. I liked the suggested deletion message though.

Thirdtrylucky · 18/10/2016 22:41

Cannot believe you were this stupid. If the sheep were in lamb you could have caused them to miscarry.
You potentially lost a farmer a good % of next year's income. Twat.

jacks11 · 18/10/2016 22:45

Also, just wanted to say if the sheep were distressed (whether you realised or not) it can cause real health problems for the sheep- stressed sheep can become ill, miscarry if in lamb and even sudden death. All because your son wanted a cuddle from a sheep and you couldn't say no!

I too hope this is a wind up.

IAmTheWhoreOfBabylon · 18/10/2016 22:48

I hope this is bollocks too
If not, if their next dream is to swim with sharks will you facilitate that one OP?

BitOutOfPractice · 18/10/2016 22:50

Quite apart from the utter stupidity of the op's actions, I had to reread it just to check that it was as weird as it seemed the first time I read it.

I strongly suspect that the op is one of those annoying people who thinks of themselves as "wacky" or "a bit crazy". You know, that type.

WaitrosePigeon · 18/10/2016 22:58

Please don't allow that to happen again Sad

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 18/10/2016 23:12

I didn't realise sheep grazed under bridges.

Why would someone dream up an AIBU about this, unless the intention was to get everyone nicely frothing? Well done op mission accomplished.

There was something very similar on here about 18 months ago about children sheep worrying and an outraged patent wanting to report the farmer who told her little darlings off to the police. That one was zapped as the work of one of our hairy handed brethren.

IamSwitzerland · 18/10/2016 23:16

That one was zapped as the work of one of our hairy handed brethren.

But it did take quite a while as I recall, looks like this one will be the same...

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 18/10/2016 23:24

FlapsTie · 18/10/2016 23:29

This is going well, I see. OP fucked off, has she? Shocking.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 18/10/2016 23:44

Odds on this thread still being here tomorrow?

YolandiFuckinVisser · 18/10/2016 23:55

My dogs love chasing things, AIBU to let them run amok in a field of pregnant ewes? The dogs are quite thin, so shouldn't be too much of a problem for the sheep, they only want to play with the fluffy things.

AvaCrowder · 18/10/2016 23:56

Nob.

ilovesooty · 18/10/2016 23:58

Just looking at the thread title and the OP I agree with BitOutOfPractice

Wacky attention seeking.

Ladybunnyfluff · 18/10/2016 23:58

Well at least he was well-clothed!

(I hope this is a wind-up).

StrangeLookingParasite · 19/10/2016 00:02

Pigeons are not "just rats with wings". Pigeons are birds and rats are mammals. They are not related. HTH hmm

Gee, thanks Captain Literal, I would never have known. It is an expression referring to relative behaviours and cleanliness. Are you this painfully literal about everything ? That must be fun.
