Thermostat temps!

Ok, so a major sticking point in my marriage is the hearing/thermostat temperature. We live in a new build with good heat retention in winter. We also have the typical thermostat set up where you select a temperature and when it dips below the heating clicks on until warmed up etc etc.

Now my dh thinks, and actively enforces, that thermostat being at maximum of 15c at all times of the year. I am allowed a maximum of 18c in the dead of winter if I have two jumpers, socks, slippers and several blankets on and am cold to the touch. And only then for half an hour maximum.

Now. Here's the million dollar question. Aibu or is he?

Also if it's him I'm guessing I should just ltb right?

He is unreasonable obviously

YABVU to think;

A - some households don't go through this nonsense every year.

B - that it can be resolved

15c??? That's insane. Ours is maximum 18.5 and plenty warm enough but minimum would be 16. LTB!

Seriously?! All joking aside I'd LTB if I was told how warm I was allowed the house I was living in and contributing to! There would be a temperature war and every time he turned it down, I'd turn it back up.

I also live in a new build but despite that it's freezing! I do tend to put on socks/jumper before reaching for the thermostat but maximum of 18? No chance!

I dont like an overheated house, but 15 is too low.

But more than that, WTF with the 'allowed'?

Me and him have thermostat wars. I turn it up he turns it down.

I have no idea how to resolve it as he runs around in a t shirt and I have t shirt top and fleece on

Fwiw we don't live together. I just like roasting and the glass in the windows about to melt and he likes cooler aka bloody freezing.

It on 23 in our house! I should live on the equator!

22 here. 19 overnight.

If he really feels too hot at normal temperatures, the obvious answer is that he should get himself a shed in which he can be as chilly as he likes.

Ours is set around 19 degrees and 15 degrees is too cold

We have 20 as a minimum in his house and my house is at 22 or more and if he's too warn he has to take some clothes off 😂

firstly, thermostats are rarely accurate, and the location of them makes a big difference to the temperatures elsewhere, so it's pointless to compare the temperatures in other houses.

Obviously the person who wants a colder temperature needs to be the main driver, as they cannot remove more layers once they're are naked and I'm sure the warmer person isn't going to want a fan on.

Too hot temperatures, especially when sleeping reduce brown fat and is more likely to increase obesity and diabetes.

I have a Hive, with the app on my iPad and phone, and I can change both time and temperature without getting up, or even from work. DH hasn't bothered to put it on his yet, so I have control....

We have it at 20 for a short period when we're getting up, then it's 18 for most of the day, unless we are both out - Hive asks if I want to turn it down when I get 6 miles away. It's usually up a bit more in the evening when we're more likely to be sitting around, but it gets changed a lot more often now I can do it without having to get a torch and peer at a dim screen under the boiler to change the timer

What you can tolerate does of course depend on age, health and activity level.

Should be between 18-21 degrees....depending on weather etc....I also have a log burner here which is our main source of heat....I would freeze in the desert according to my hubby lol.....I love the very bones of him and so long as I am warm and comfortable is what matters.......why on earth are u allowing this to happen? ....is it not also your house.....please don't also say that there are children living in your cold house....god bless you X

Haha i love these responses! By allowed i mean he sulks if i turn it up but will generally let me do it for a small amount of time... And to be fair to him he naturally runs warmer than a normal person.

Also he is building a shed to go and hide in lol!

But seriously i just came home and my poor beagles are hiding under their blankets. He had it so low it clicked on at 12!!!

Ours kicks in at 16 degrees, max 18 but can tweak up to 22 without too much moaning for short periods...

I've been told to set the thermostat at 18 degrees by my hospital consultant. Your DP isn tthinking this through, the reason you leave the thermostat to control the heating is that you dont get a big dip then have to run ifor ages to bring the temperature up.
Assuming its a modern boiler, it will cost more to run it his way.

About 18 during the day- I prefer to be a bit chilly and put a jumper on.

Off completely at night and usually with a window open.

25 and it's staying there.

Yanbu! Ours is on 20 all the time. Sometimes when DH is at work I put it on 21. I can't cope with it any lower.

We are in a new built holiday apartment at the moment and the thermostat is uncomfortably hot at anything over 15. So I think new builds are warmer.

16 minimum at night, 18 in the day, with 20 when we wake up for half an hour.
Our timer is fine tuned by DH, but little does he know I override it to off for most of the morning if I'm at home to get a good breeze through the house.

Mine is at 18 all year. Its so much warmer upstairs in my house that I reckon its around 23 upstairs. If I set it to 23 the bedrooms would be stifling so I have a blanket on the sofa!

Never have heat on overnight. 18-20 for getting up 5am to 8am and then 4pm to 830pm.
