Thermostat temps!

Ok, so a major sticking point in my marriage is the hearing/thermostat temperature. We live in a new build with good heat retention in winter. We also have the typical thermostat set up where you select a temperature and when it dips below the heating clicks on until warmed up etc etc.

Now my dh thinks, and actively enforces, that thermostat being at maximum of 15c at all times of the year. I am allowed a maximum of 18c in the dead of winter if I have two jumpers, socks, slippers and several blankets on and am cold to the touch. And only then for half an hour maximum.

Now. Here's the million dollar question. Aibu or is he?

Also if it's him I'm guessing I should just ltb right? Grin

Ours is 19 degrees at peak times , 16 during the day and 14 at night (rarely comes on at that)

I don't like a hot house and 20 is usually too much for me!

It can't be good for your house to be too cold all the time

BagelGoesWalking · 18/10/2016 19:01

Blimey, I have it set to 6 deg at night (from 11pm to 6.30am)! Since we had new windows and doors fitted, it's definitely a lot warmer, fewer draughts.

About 20 first thing in the morning, then 18/19 (depending who's in etc) and maybe up to 20 for a bit in the evening as DDs room is north facing and the coldest room in the house and she does homework up there afternoon/evening.

Still like a hot water bottle for my feet in bed though Smile

I would have to leave him, anything under 20 and I am freezing.

I got in from work tonight and it was 20 but felt cold so I whacked the heating on for an hour to get it warmed up. Its now 23 and feels lovely.

Under 18 is generally thought off as 'cold' and not ideal for health tbh. Also not great for the house to get so cold for things like damp....

I hate being cold Wink

I'm part of the thermostat police and expect people to put an extra layer and/or slippers before I crank up the heating. That said our living room thermostat is set too 20-22 degrees, we prefer the rest of the house to be a bit cooler and we don't have the heating on at night. 15 is VVVVVU.

frikadela01 · 18/10/2016 19:14

I used to work in an office where if the temperature dropped below 16 we were allowed to go home. 15 is positively freezing

Also its more energy efficient to maintain the temperature than foe it to keep dropping and then rising. Our is set at 19 and will stay that way over the winter.

Swifey · 18/10/2016 19:15

We haven't had the heating on yet, but I did light the logburner today. Our thermostat is stupidly positioned in the playroom which is south facing and therefore the warmest, but 18' is what it is on when the heating is on. Also no heating at night, except the logburner in the proper winter!

I'm also an icicle wrapped in blankets, wearing thermals under clothes, two jumpers etc, whilst any man in the vicinity is waltzing round in a t shirt. I'm like a lizard in summer - just want to lie on a nice warm rock and absorb the heat!

This is about aircon, but same principle...

Candlelight123 · 18/10/2016 19:53

I get it whacked up to 24 for an hour as soon as my DH leaves the house Grin.
We have it set to 19 but I'm cold at anything below 21. My dh moans if I get a blanket out because I'm cold'as it looks scruffy' Angry
