'supported living for challenging youngsters' being built next door.

NC for this as could be outing. This is more of a WWYD really. I am at risk of sounding like a right NIMBY and I hate that its bringing this out in me but...
I am a single parent about to move to a new house. Building work has started on a 'supported living for challenging youngsters' development right next door.
Now, I have lived in some of the most gang-riven areas in the country without a thought but in my old age and with a child I admit I am worried about crime, drugs and ability to sell house on. I love the house and everything else is good.
WWYD? Still proceed with the purchase?

This is a genuine post, I don't have many people to discuss this with and I have never worried about house values etc in my life! I am genuinely surprised at my reaction to this.

Queen, that's my recollection too.

And how very nice of you to mentor. (And to plug.) FlowersGrin

I just felt some of the comments in the thread were inappropriate
Definitely agree with that, especially when the name calling starts.

PersianCatLady · 20/10/2016 16:52

Oooch! Persian you may just have volunteered to be the cat amongst the pigeons
How come?

QueenJuggler · 20/10/2016 16:52

ftw - I suspect I'm not being nice at all, it's just some latent religious guilt that means I'm trying to make up for past misdemeanours to avoid eventually burning in hell Grin

OurBlanche · 20/10/2016 16:55

Sorry Persian it was a mix of your name... and the earlier combative posts calling posters all manner of names for suggesting just what you did!

Misplaced sense of humour after a long day or two reading this thread!

honkinghaddock · 20/10/2016 17:08

Ftw - Some posters asked what sort of challenging because it can have different meanings. There was then an offensive post (now deleted) about what it meant which didn't help matters.

PersianCatLady · 20/10/2016 17:09

OurBlanche
So everything is good here then?

I mean I haven't upset you or anything?

OurBlanche · 20/10/2016 17:12

Oh! I wish I hadn't posted that now. No. As I said, it was a throw away comment based on the last 27 pages...

PersianCatLady · 20/10/2016 17:21

Oh! I wish I hadn't posted that now
No dramas, take it easy.

A colleague of mine recently bought and sold a house. Their buyers asked Are you aware of any house in the street being used otherwise than as a private one-family home or of any proposal to change the use of any home in such a way? and decided to ask their sellers the same question. It sounds wise to me.

Supertrooperloopthelooper · 20/10/2016 23:15

Umm..was it me who linked challenging and disabilities? If I have kicked off a horrible fight I am really sorry. My DC is disabled and incredibly challenging. Aggressive, swearing limits on a daily basis. Not because they are hateful, but because they have a neurological disability that makes them very prone to this behaviour. It still wears me down and challenges my very essence though.

Sorry if I have caused trouble. I base my answers on my own, very difficult at the moment, experience and didn't think any further than that.

ftw · 20/10/2016 23:24

super, I find it fascinating how people can all read the same thing, yet find different meaning depending on their own experience.

Sorry you're having a hard time. FlowersBrew

PersianCatLady · 21/10/2016 12:30

Umm..was it me who linked challenging and disabilities
I think that the thread title was very loaded and if it had instead read -
"'homeless hostel for youngsters being built next door" I don't think that this thread would have got so out of hand.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 21/10/2016 12:45

OP, hope you have withdrawn.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 21/10/2016 12:47

The bish bosh stuff on this thread would make one lose the will to live. Have' ploughed though much of it but still...

Boring.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 21/10/2016 12:48

Haven't ploughed through

Waltermittythesequel · 21/10/2016 15:05

Super, I think it was unfair of you to make the link because OP had to come back time and again to say she wasn't being disablist. And now, instead of being able to talk through her problem and receive good advice, she's had this shit and has probably gone away. I know I would have.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 21/10/2016 15:51

homeless hostel for youngsters being built next door" I don't think that this thread would have got so out of hand.

Actually I think it may have done.

honkinghaddock · 21/10/2016 16:21

Super isn't responsible for other peoples comments. The term challenging behaviour ( or behaviour that challenges) is primarily used in connection with people with sn or m h issues and is used to describe behaviour that is a challenge for those working with them to change.

PersianCatLady · 21/10/2016 16:44

Actually I think it may have done
Really??

Elphame · 21/10/2016 17:26

I'd pull out too no question about it.

Did the price reflect the development next door? If not you are going to be paying more than the house is worth. Sadly like it or not the house will be massively down valued by this and you will have trouble selling it if you want to move.

Thefishewife · 21/10/2016 18:19

Good luck we have a pupil referral unit down the road by the park they all sit out side hoodies up hand down pants ,smoking weed while the grime Music blares

While the staff look on

The coumminty center is now off limits and I would even go in there now

Don't do it
If they play up I pretty certain the staff will do eff all
