To think the Ched Evans verdict shows why mob justice is wrong

Hundreds of thousands of people were willing Condemn a innocent man. He was practically forced out of football. This is why we can't play jury from our sofas.

Toomanypetals

You make an excellent point

However I would dispute your last paragraph. Nobody (apart from perhaps CE) knows whether he attacked her or not, so calling him "attacker" is not accurate.

Secondly he didn't walk away. He served 2.5 years in prison as a sex offender. Not enough if he is a rapist, but rather too much of he had consentual sex.

Lighthouseturquoise · 19/10/2016 12:43

Yummy you do realise jury's are random members of the public? That includes mumsnetters.

I'm glad people get angry of rape.

Yummy do you care that only something like 5% of reported rapes get a conviction?

Do you think 95% of women are lying?

Do you think anything needs to be done for rape victims?

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 19/10/2016 12:46

Ugh. Rape Apologists can fuck off to the shit hole you came from

Lighthouseturquoise · 19/10/2016 12:46

rapecrisis.org.uk/statistics.php

Some rape statistics.

Is it any wonder people get angry.

If you all have such faith in the justice system, then does that mean that almost 95% of reported rapes are false.

FullTimeYummy · 19/10/2016 12:48

Lighthouse, who is defending the actions of CE?

Every opinion I've heard on the guy is that he is a cheating, disrespectful scumbag. The contentious issue is whether or not he is also a rapist. That's the bit people are debating

Nobody knows the answer to that for sure and there is evidence pointing to either possibility. However it seems plenty are prepared to become enraged, call him a rapist and shout down anybody who disagrees with them all based on a hunch.

There's looking out for other women, and there's making leaps of logic that help nobody. This thread is largely the latter

Lighthouseturquoise · 19/10/2016 12:50

Yummy I asked you if you have faith in the law, given that only 5% of reported rapes end in conviction. Do you believe that 95% of women are lying?

FullTimeYummy · 19/10/2016 12:51

Of course not FFS

And I hardly need to be reminded of the rape conviction rape.

Just because I can remain calm and logical doesn't mean I don't care for God's sake

ageingrunner · 19/10/2016 12:51

CE was originally charged and convicted from his own words. Why is this hard to understand?

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 19/10/2016 12:56

Not caught up yet, but Yummy is a rape apologist?

Well colour me surprised.

Lighthouseturquoise · 19/10/2016 12:56

Because logic should tell you that for all the men found not guilty, a large majority will actually in fact, be guilty.

toomanypetals · 19/10/2016 13:03

www.studentmoneysaver.co.uk/article/can-you-spot-which-quotes-are-from-lad-mags-and-which-quotes-are-from-rapists/

Here is a calm, logical example of rape culture. Men not able to tell the difference between statements made by sex offenders and lad magazines.

Anger can be justified. But then it's supposedly very male to be cool and logical isn't it? Damn those women getting all emotional...

toomanypetals · 19/10/2016 13:55

CE is an attacker. So I shall call him thus. Aside from rape, he wordlessly penetrated her and sulked away without a thought for her safety given she was very drunk. That is an attack. It's a physical and emotional attack. He neglected her and given he felt entitled to carry out the most intimate of acts with her, he had a duty of care to her.

Yes he attacked her.

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 19/10/2016 14:10

Sexual predator?
He predated for sex (see the text message, turning taxi around and sneaking a room key, also see escape via fire escape), therefore it is factual and non-libellous. :)

PortiaCastis · 19/10/2016 14:11

Yes and he climbed out of the window and left her.
If he were my son I'd never want it near me ever again

twofingerstoGideon · 19/10/2016 14:18

Lighthouse, who is defending the actions of CE?
FullTimeYummy You appear to be, for one.

twofingerstoGideon · 19/10/2016 14:19

"...based on a hunch" FFS

toomanypetals · 19/10/2016 14:24

My ten year old son was watching a documentary about Trump recently. He understandably was confused about 'pussy grabbing' and what sexual assault meant. But he said to me, 'I think Trump treats women badly'

Even a ten year old gets it ffs

SooWrites · 19/10/2016 18:46

My town was one of the ones that offered him a contract and then backed out after public backlash.

If he ever tries to play here again I sincerely hope the same thing happens.

Whether what he did is the legal definition of rape is niether here nor there. What he did, by his own admission, is morally repugnant. He does not deserve to hold a job where young boys hold him up as a hero.

Society needs to stop tolerating this behaviour towards women.

FlissMumsnet · 19/10/2016 19:29

Just to let everyone know, we've banned one of the main "contributors" from this thread. No prizes for guessing who......

Boundaries · 19/10/2016 19:38

Thank you, Fliss.

a7mints · 20/10/2016 11:49

The so-called rape statistics quoted on Rape Crisis website do not accord with the statistics published by ONS.In fact they are wildly different!

venusinscorpio · 20/10/2016 12:10

Which ONS statistics are you looking at, a7? The Rape Crisis statistics are from an official report partially based on ONS statistics but also MoJ. It could depend on many things.

PortiaCastis · 20/10/2016 12:27

Stats do not matter. What matters is women will now not report rape.
I didn't report because I didn't want to be dragged through the dirt.
Why aren't mens xexual conquests called to court

This whole thing is wrong very very wrong
I've signed the petition, donated money and e mailed Dr Philip Lee..Under secretary of state for justice victims and youth.
Already had a reply asking for my address so he could reply personally.
Glad!y gave my address and if I can help at least one other victim I'll be pleased

venusinscorpio · 20/10/2016 12:30

They matter in this case as a7 thinks Rape Crisis have made up their "so-called" stats. I'd like to challenge that assertion.
