WIBU to watch a horror movie (rated 18) with a baby on my lap?

Hello all

First time mum here! My baby girl is only 2 weeks old. She is always asleep in my arms (I never get anything done!) and she currently is now... I'm just wondering if it would be okay to put on a horror movie. It's rated an 18. I know that babies do absorb sounds, etc. so I wasn't sure...

I used to turn the sound off and watch with the subtitles on in case scary noise effects frightened my new born babies.

Weirdly I wouldn't but I'm too chicken to watch horror movies anyway.
I'm sure she will prob sleep through any noise and I'be heard it's good to get babies used to sleeping through noise!

I wouldn't have. Your heart beat will be elevated- the noise old disturb her. No one knows what's absorbed. But most of all, why?

Being scared might wake her up, as your breathing, heart rate will change. Depends whether you can face that risk to your sanity ha! But yeah it's fine for the baby I should think. They seem to tune out anything that isn't you at that age anyway.

I think it's fine at that age, DS was maybe 4/5 months before he started really noticing the TV...he got startled when they showed some bombing on the news.

I didn't, i did watch court room type dramas which were 18 but they didn't have the same 'menace' type sounds. It would be fine with headphones I guess if your baby was asleep.

We were watching something - I think it might have been breaking bad - when we realised the Moses basket was leaning against the sub woofer. She was sleeping soundly.

I did go off loud stuff as she got older (not a fan of horror anyway) so we moved on to mad men. I have a funny video of dd at about 4 months old bouncing in her jumperoo seemingly along to the miso of Tremé

I watched the entire box set of the X Files when DS1 and DS2 were babies. They've turned out fine (although DS1 is a bit of a horror nut, actually!)

They have parent and baby screenings of 15/18 rated films in cinemas all the time, so it mustn't do any lasting damage.

I only stopped watching anything I'd deem inappropriate once mine where about 12 months lol. Strangely though both kids love Halloween type stuff now aged almost 2 and almost 4. Their fave film is nightmare before Christmas, not even joking.

I've watched all 6 series of The Walking Dead since I brought the twins home from hospital. They have cheerfully watched people die and turn into zombies and them get hacked to pieces...

Regarding heartbeat being elevated and the sound, the same can be said for when you are pregnant, presumably if you are a fan like you say, you would have watched horror movies whilst you were pregnant, so baby is used to your reactions and the sounds when they are on. Even without factoring this in (more to settle your worries) I'd say absolutely fine OP, don't worry, enjoy your film.
