"impossible to choose between my mothers or fathers name to drop. It's not fair to put your children under this pressure"

So you're so incapable of making that decision as an adult that you expect your parents to make it for you, at a point when they don't even yet know that you're going to grow up into a person who's incapable of making a simple decision?

Linzi99 · 14/10/2016 22:17

Both of my sons have a double barrelled surname to be honest it's the best choice we made as both names are are being carried through to the next generation at the end of the day it's got to be what you and your partner are happy with not anybody else good luck xx

mummymeister · 14/10/2016 22:33

what happens when someone with a double barrel name then marries/has a child with someone else with a double barrel name which in both cases have been made up from the parents surnames? if your child wants to preserve the name (just as you did when you named them with both) does that mean you end up with 4 surnames?

I thought it was a fad that had died out a couple of years ago tbh.

NameChange30 · 14/10/2016 22:37

DID YOU CANCEL THE CHEQUE?!

Grin
MadameDePomPom · 14/10/2016 22:37

I think maybe that question has already been asked more than once. As always happens on these threads.

NameChange30 · 14/10/2016 22:38

Asked and answered

More than once

MadameDePomPom · 14/10/2016 22:40

I don't understand why people always ask that question! It's like their brains cannot compute anything other than one surname.

mummymeister · 14/10/2016 22:43

sorry anotherEmma but isn't this comment called "a thread about another thread" and therefore contrary to MN guidelines?

or is it ok to do that if you put a big smiley after it?

This question is asked a lot. I still don't get it or how it works with later families but that's probably because I am a bit thick. smug comment?hmm just a bit.

NameChange30 · 14/10/2016 22:44

It's a post and therefore not a thread

HTH

Manumission · 14/10/2016 22:45

Read THIS thread in full mummy Smile

MadameDePomPom · 14/10/2016 22:45

Well what do you think they do?

The most likely thing is that they choose a new double-barrell name for their kids, one from each parent. Lots of combinations to choose from!

NameChange30 · 14/10/2016 22:46

God it's fucking Groundhog Day on this thread

MadameDePomPom · 14/10/2016 22:46

isn't this comment called "a thread about another thread" and therefore contrary to MN guidelines?

Nope. It was a gag.

Manumission · 14/10/2016 22:47

I think it's a large-scale wind-up TBH.

There is probably a FB group somewhere pissing themselves laughing.

Otherwise, really, the explanation is quite scary Hmm

mummymeister · 14/10/2016 22:51

its bullying actually. I keep seeing it come up when someone wants to be a bit smug and shut other people up. well job done. I wont bother to reply to any of your posts or make any other comments on this thread. you can go to bed / back to your bottle of wine, knowing that someone who asked a genuine question out of interest wont bother you further.

Manumission · 14/10/2016 22:54

What's bullying?

'Cancel the cheque'?

It was a joke mummy. She was making a joke because you came and posted the exact same 'genuine question' that at least three dozen posters have already asked on this thread.

It's been answered, discussed etc to death. On this thread. The problem is you haven't RTFT.

NameChange30 · 14/10/2016 22:55

If you were really interested maybe you could have RTFT, and found several answers to your question.

NameChange30 · 14/10/2016 22:55

Cross post!

MadameDePomPom · 14/10/2016 22:57

I hate when people lazily throw around the word 'bullying'.

You didn't read the thread. Get over yourself.

Manumission · 14/10/2016 22:57
Smile

I'll be in the corner rocking and keening if you need me Emma

NameChange30 · 14/10/2016 22:59

Manu
I'll be finishing my bottle of wine, apparently Grin

Manumission · 15/10/2016 12:32

Oh FGS

NameChange30 · 15/10/2016 13:06

Oh dear
