Not much else to it! Grin

And the argument that it used to be the preserve of the upper class so it's snobby and pretentious if anyone else does it.... Er, what? How dare the middle and working classes care enough about their names to think that it matters that their children share them, eh? It's only if you're posh that your name matters, right?

Well I guess OP can see that some people will think one thing about her if she uses both names, and some another, or else nothing at all because actually, these days, double barrelled names are really, really common and not an issue at all. The question is whether she cares about the opinion of those who will be concerned about tradition and what her great grandchildren will be called, or dismisses all that as a load of confused bollocks.

LetitiaCropleysCookbook · 13/10/2016 15:50

If Katarina ever married Jon Ronson, he could become Jon Ronson-Johnson-Thompson.

Grin (Well, it made me laugh!)

Ifounddory · 13/10/2016 15:54

I think it sounds weird because it is two male first names as surnames. Also Johnson as a name is far more common than Johns and with there being a son in it confusion may arise.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 13/10/2016 16:04

Well yeah but then we might as well just all call ourselves 'Smith' in case anyone ever gets confused about anything!

BowieFan · 13/10/2016 16:42

I was just thinking, it's a good job we didn't double barrel the names for our kids. They'd have had Fox-Hunt as their surname Grin

Actually, I did go to school with someone called Isla who married a bloke with the last name "White" so she became "Isla White" and to this day she doesn't realise why that's so funny. If she went on to marry Bryan Ferry she could be... wait for it... "Isla White-Ferry" Grin

PuppyMonkey · 13/10/2016 16:52

Weird, there's a story on this thread in Huffington Post Confused

AshtonBacks · 13/10/2016 16:56

Oh how fucking wonderful to have our surnames posted in the fucking newspaper, not on. As if this is interesting enough!!

OP posts:
AshtonBacks · 13/10/2016 16:58

Mind you... They described DP as husband... Blush

I wish they hadn't written the surname though, that wasn't needed.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/10/2016 16:59

Ugh. I fucking hate that every other thread these days is turned into fodder for the DM and now it seems Huffington Post. Hope it isn't too identifying for you OP.

PuppyMonkey · 13/10/2016 17:03

I mean, no offence op, but I didn't even think it was THAT much of a thrilling thread. Quite diverting for a moment but that's all... Daft sods journalists aren't they?

Marmighty · 13/10/2016 17:04

Oh how annoying, I would be so angry if I were you.

I think the DB surname is fine, at least it's easy to pronounce. People have all sorts of names these days and it just makes life and society a bit more interesting

SpecialStains · 13/10/2016 17:18

Op - I like your choice of first names and think they go well with the double barrelled surname.

Good luck and best wishes.

Chocolatecake12 · 13/10/2016 18:11

It's traditional in Spain to have the mother and fathers surname.
I once knew a Marietta Martinez martinez.
If you dropped the s from johns it flows better.
John- georgeson. Or georgeson-John.

Jackiebrambles · 13/10/2016 18:16

I can't believe that's a story in the huff post. Money for old rope being a 'journo' these days eh??

NameChange30 · 13/10/2016 18:29

OP, DID YOU CANCEL THE CHEQUE?!

This thread is going around and around in circles.

Must be a slow news day for HuffPo.

NameChange30 · 13/10/2016 18:33

What a completely shit article! It says nothing whatsoever! Almost reluctant to share the link but here it is in case anyone wants to marvel at the reporter's brilliance Grin

ImissTerry · 13/10/2016 18:42

Sounds ok. Do whatever you feel is right.

My DS has my surname as his second middle name and his dad's name as his surname. Same as I have. I kept my original surname as a middle name and took DH's surname. Both of these names are of Scottish descent. None of us are Scottish.

EveOnline2016 · 13/10/2016 18:58

The problem I see with double barrel surname is putting a child in an impossible decision when old enough to choose there children's name.

For me it would be impossible to choose between my mothers or fathers name to drop. It's not fair to put your children under this pressure

Has HuffPo been hacked by Viz?

BertrandRussell · 13/10/2016 19:36

Really, Eve? You know, I'd never have thought of that! Grin

LilaTheLion · 13/10/2016 19:41

I like Georgeson-Johns.

HTH Grin
