To Think HQ Need To Change Their Deletion Policy

Waltermittythesequel · 12/10/2016 11:09

Unless I've missed something, which is possible.

The party line was always that they wouldn't delete threads just because OP wants them to.

But that's exactly what they do now. Every single time OP gets in a snit, the thread is gone.

If that's their new policy, fine. Their site, they can do what they want.

But, the deletion message still reads that they don't usually delete threads, but will when a poster's privacy is at risk (or whatever).

So, AIBU to think they should either change their deletion message to "OP wanted the thread deleted" or stop doing it?!

I've asked them a few times to comment on this thread to clarify. Hopefully we'll hear something from them...

Oops! Sorry for double post. Thought the first hadn't posted.

if this is about that awful twatbadger and 'her' married man, i think it should totally have stayed up.
I agree - thread not going your way? Cry and ask for deletion.

SporkLife · 12/10/2016 17:18

Yanbu I wish they'd just lock most tbh instead of deleting (apart from really offensive ones) I hate reading part way through a thread then coming back later to find it deleted, I need to know what happened next! Grin

TrippyMcTrapFace · 12/10/2016 17:25

Absolutely agree with the OP and would definitely add my support to this comment by a pp :
""Thread hasn't gone as the OP wanted, so they are throwing a hissy fit, and we have decided to "

Butteredpars1ps · 12/10/2016 17:27

this annoys the shit out of me, but I can kind of see that HQ are in a tricky position. Particularly now so many threads end up in the DM.

If the poster is claiming privacy, even when it's clearly a tantrum it puts them in a tricky position.

I'm actually more cross that some good, funny threads have ended abruptly because they have been published elsewhere and people stop adding to the thread.

Hi all,

Thanks for the reports on this one.

We don't tend to use that deletion message unless there has actually been an issue with privacy but it's clear this isn't the case this time.

We should write a personalised message on these threads and apologies if this hasn't been happening. We will make sure the message gets across .

We tend not to zap threads just because someone asks us to and/or doesn't like the comments, there has to be good reason and if it's not for privacy, then we should be posting that reason as the deletion message.

Apologies that this hasn't happened on this occasion.

Waltermittythesequel · 12/10/2016 17:43

But...but...that's what you said when this came up a while ago!

And the last good few threads that have been deleted have had the privacy message when there's been no identifying content!

I can't remember the last time an OP said they wanted a thread deleted where the thread hasn't been deleted.

And the thing is: this isn't my website so HQ you can do whatever you want with it. I just think you should be more honest about it.

I can totally imagine what some ops claim to have breached privacy "well I might be outed because I revealed I live in London and ride the tube" Hmm

MNHQ should stop fobbing people off and just admit that threads get deleted on request.

SheldonsSpot · 12/10/2016 18:07

We tend not to zap threads just because someone asks us to and/or doesn't like the comments

No really, you do.

All the time.

Waltermittythesequel · 12/10/2016 18:22

The reply is pretty much a mirror image of Soubriquet's from the last time!

OP posts:
Waltermittythesequel · 12/10/2016 20:29

Another one bites the dust Hmm

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 12/10/2016 20:36

What ?

Waltermittythesequel · 12/10/2016 20:45

Cake thread is being deleted because it's "run its course". Confused

OP posts:
icelollycraving · 12/10/2016 20:45

I had a thread deleted recently in legal. They did so on the same night I requested deletion. Mine was identifying.

JenLindleyShitMom · 12/10/2016 20:45

Perhaps HQ should have a red warning message at the part where you click to post your thread stating that OPs should ensure they have posted no identifying details as HQ don't like to delete threads. OPs could have to tick the box to say they have read the message and understand their thread will remain unless it is very clearly identifying.

hippydippybaloney · 12/10/2016 20:47

Someone has just posted that they are 'asking for their post to be deleted' on an aibu about the coil basically because they were told they wbu a couple of times. Ridiculous.

AnyFucker · 12/10/2016 20:51

What is with all these whiners recently ? Hmm

Redglitter · 12/10/2016 20:53

'Having run its course' is the most ridiculous reason ever. Surely every thread will come under that category

Soubriquet · 12/10/2016 20:55

Run its course has to be the worst excuse ever

Boundaries · 12/10/2016 20:57

There should be a naughty step area. HQ could move all hissy fit threads there.

Perhaps with a function where the OP can no longer post on it but other people can.

Waltermittythesequel · 12/10/2016 21:05

But they won't admit they're deleting them because posters are throwing tantrums! Frustrating.

OP posts:
ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 12/10/2016 21:05

Is it because in the 'I'm an amoral fucker who refuses to listen to those of you who say I shouldn't destroy a marriage' thread, a poster pointed out she had a photo of both herself and her child on her profile page?

BastardGoDarkly · 12/10/2016 21:12

Ah yes Jess that must be it for that one, she'd also put her kids names on her profile (who fucking does that?!)

I agree though OP, it happens all the time these days.
