To expect to be paid more than half? (Pic included)

Background: I'm a home baker using decent/top quality ingredients in my cakes, friends and family buy off me for special events and am trying to kick start a little baking business from home ( after receiving loads of compliments and encouragement which I'm thankful for!) A friend has requested a cake (pictured) and offered well below the asking price knowing what quality I use and usually the one to berate others if they take the mick when it comes to price. I don't over charge and usually find I've undrecharged when adding up costs ( new to this). How much would you expect to pay for this cake? I'm just feeling a little upset really, I love her and will still make it just surprised at asking to pay less than half. I understand mates rates and all...
Before you ask
Yes she can afford it
I don't buy wholesale ingredients
No I didn't stick to my price (out of shock)

I guess £30.

PinkyOfPie · 10/10/2016 19:46

OP!! Get back here now young lady!

chocolateworshipper · 10/10/2016 19:47

BastardGoDarkly - how much you charging?

Phalenopsisgirl · 10/10/2016 19:49

I've got to go, will check later but pleeease op, you need to really really work out what your costs are. I would just go back to your friend and say you started adding up stuff and didn't realise the costs involved and this cake will be £x, does she still want you to make it? Do not under sell, I could regail you with tale after tale of how this backfires. If you set your prices low now you will never get the real value as next time they will expect the same.

zen1 · 10/10/2016 19:50

I know nothing about how much cakes cost to make or have made, but I don't understand why you wouldn't cover costs for the ingredients and your time. If you are starting a business lik this, you'll be running at a loss all the time.

YouTheCat · 10/10/2016 19:50

Definitely make her a tiny version of this cake and then tell her to fuck off.

FannyFifer · 10/10/2016 19:50

I would think a cake like that wld be about £80-100. Depends on what's under the icing as well.

LightDrizzle · 10/10/2016 19:51

My guess is she offered £75 or £80

TheVermiciousKnid · 10/10/2016 19:52

I think the OP has eaten the cake (rather than giving it to cheeky friend) and is now feeling too sick to post. Cake

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 10/10/2016 19:53

MM. I've just done a google image search. If the OP made that cake then it must be full of hair from her hairy hands...

BastardGoDarkly · 10/10/2016 19:54

She said she didn't make it didn't she?

It's just a photo of the cake her friend wants. She never claimed to have made the actual cake - yet.

PinkyOfPie · 10/10/2016 19:55

that she didn't make it, her friend sent it to her saying she wanted one like this.

PoppyPicklesPenguin · 10/10/2016 19:55

Still no OP....

I am far too invested in this

GeekyWombat · 10/10/2016 19:55

Ecumenical, you realise the photo she has given is the one her friend gave as an example of the style she was after? Presumably the friend herself got it from Google (or more likely one of those wanky bridal blogs / Pinterest boards...

Phalenopsisgirl · 10/10/2016 19:55

Op has already said this isn't her cake, this is what she has been asked to make

Oysterbabe · 10/10/2016 19:56

Was this all just a massive wind up? Grin

LagunaBubbles · 10/10/2016 19:56

The OP had never claimed to have made that cake, that was the picture shown to her!

Maudlinmaud · 10/10/2016 19:56
