To expect to be paid more than half? (Pic included)

Background: I'm a home baker using decent/top quality ingredients in my cakes, friends and family buy off me for special events and am trying to kick start a little baking business from home ( after receiving loads of compliments and encouragement which I'm thankful for!) A friend has requested a cake (pictured) and offered well below the asking price knowing what quality I use and usually the one to berate others if they take the mick when it comes to price. I don't over charge and usually find I've undrecharged when adding up costs ( new to this). How much would you expect to pay for this cake? I'm just feeling a little upset really, I love her and will still make it just surprised at asking to pay less than half. I understand mates rates and all...
Before you ask
Yes she can afford it
I don't buy wholesale ingredients
No I didn't stick to my price (out of shock)

Oh ffs! Just read through most of this and still no answer?! Angry

timeforabrewnow · 10/10/2016 21:17

While we are waiting can bogeyface put up a picture of her golden snitch cake, as that sounds really amazing.

And later, you could put one up of the Hagrid Cake currently being done.

(If you want to)

Surly a glitter cake is a glitter cake? How much designing does that take? dons hard hat

user1473454752 · 10/10/2016 21:18

Waiting to see what shes offered you, I agree with others grow some balls and tell her how much it actually costs you to make including labour.

seven201 · 10/10/2016 21:19

I NEED to know how much she offered. I'm guessing £40. I really think you need to tell her you've costed it up as X and that it's going to take you y amount of hours to do so maybe she could reconsider how much she pays or go elsewhere.

purplefizz26 · 10/10/2016 21:20

I would expect to pay £250 ish for this cake. Plus a delivery charge.

My 3 tier wedding cake in a similar style was £380 with delivery included.

EweAreHere · 10/10/2016 21:22

Why do OPs do this??! Where is she?

Bogeyface · 10/10/2016 21:23

Time I am trying to find one! I cant even find it on FB, so maybe I deleted it, I think DD has one on her phone so will ask her to Whats app it to me!
Although the photos arent that great tbh as it just looks yellow, the gold doesnt really come through but I will try and get one....

mamanestfolle · 10/10/2016 21:23

Pleas update OP I have just wasted 20 minutes of my life reading through all 15 pages, I really want to know...

soundsystem · 10/10/2016 21:24

I can't believe I just read 15 pages to still not know how much she's offered for the bloody cake! (blatantly place-marking as I need to know!)

TempusEedjit · 10/10/2016 21:25

I'm waiting for OP to come back all coy "Oh I'm so sorry I had noooo idea I'd have so many replies to my last deliberate cliffhanger comment, what a coincidence I got called away at that moment" < unconvincing blush emoticon >

FFS

IzzyIsBusy · 10/10/2016 21:25

I knew when i read the OP post of "you will never guess" that she would not br back.
15 pages later still waiting........

Arsehole.

BungoWomble · 10/10/2016 21:26

This thread needs a warning at the start, it's seriously addictive! Does the closest guess get a prize (popcorn, perhaps)? I know nothing about cakes so I would have said £50-60 depending on size.

Valeriemalorie · 10/10/2016 21:26

How much?

pieceofpurplesky · 10/10/2016 21:26

I hate these threads Hmm

timeforabrewnow · 10/10/2016 21:26

Thanks Bogey - unlike the OP - I will come back and check the thread !

This thread may inspire me to do a proper effort for my DS's birthday next month when he turns 16...

ChishandFips33 · 10/10/2016 21:27

Awwww c'mon!!! I neeeeeed to know how bad the offer was!!!!!🎂🍰

StrawberryGiraffe · 10/10/2016 21:30

Troll?! Angry

RockinHippy · 10/10/2016 21:30

I got the famous "Its only sugar and flour and stuff". I do think people forget that icing, decorations etc all cost money and if you buy them from a supermarket as opposed to getting them at trade prices, they cost a lot of money. And of course your time is "free". Well it is for my kids but not for yours! That was my one and only foray into the world of professional baking :o

That doesn't surprise me at all, I had pretty much the same from good friends DSIS, she thought offering £25 for a cake I really didn't want to make as it was naff, was actually generous - even when I broke down the price into 90 cake portions she still couldn't get it

Sadly people just don't get what goes into them at all, blood sweat & tears

Maudlinmaud · 10/10/2016 21:30

ChequeOff · 10/10/2016 21:31

...and here's the cake OP made earlier Hmm

HitsAndMrs · 10/10/2016 21:32

£250 at least for that cake!

ShoppingBasket · 10/10/2016 21:32

Bugger, that was a wasted 5 or so minutes.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 10/10/2016 21:33

Oh ffs. I've just wasted precious time scrolling through for the OPs highlighted post!

Come on OP. I thought £30 too. DH got 2 cakes made for my 30th. They were the front and back of a football shirt so not 2 tiers but 2 cakes and were bloody amazing. He paid £110. I nearly cried!
