To take a baby to the hairdressers

I am aren't i?!
She's 7 weeks and I'd be there for a couple of hours.
Mixed responses from friends and family.

Personally I wouldn't. If the baby starts crying you cant just walk out of the salon. Lots of people use going to the hairdressers as a bit of 'me time' and would be pissed off if another customers baby was crying.

My last hairdresser hated having babies in as it always ended in complaints from other people.

But I have seen babies in salons sleep through the whole thing. I would call the salon. It depends on the type of salon, some are more laid back and bustling.

Some go for a more serene atmosphere.

Please don't, people go to the salon to relax away from dc. Could someone not look after her for a few hours?

Personally I wouldn't. I contemplated it when DS1 was tiny and breastfeeding as I desperately needed a haircut but my hair takes a good few hours. In the end we just waited until he would take a bottle although even then it was hit and miss with it. I bf him, passed him to DH then hoped we could get through a few hours at the salon without him needing fed. I think I'd be annoyed too if I had a few hours away from him to relax and there was another baby screaming there!

I did with my then 6 week old who boobed and slept throughout. I wouldn't with a screamer or for any complicated treatment though. I still take her as a toddler and she just watches quietly.

I did but he was in s really good routine so I was 99.9% sure we'd be ok (and it was more like 1.5 hours). Caused quite a distraction for the stylists though!

I wouldn't, and I'd also hate to have a baby screaming and making a noise while I was having a treat and getting my hair done.
Are there any mobile hairdressers you could use?

I wouldn't. I'd be pretty annoyed if my 2 hours peace with my kindle was shattered my a screaming baby.

Where about dare you? I know there are a few child friendly hairdressers in S. London and I imagine other areas would have the same too.

I personally wouldn't. I'd be distracted, my hairdresser would be distracted, all of the customers would be . . and not just cos DS (14 weeks) is super cute lol. He has quite a pair of lungs on him.

as a hairdresser I had no problems when babies came into the salon, there was always someone to rock the buggy etc, I think a lot of depends on the type of salon you are going into. unlike toddlers you don't have to worry about a baby hurting themselves and touching dangerous items.

Probably not, though maybe if baby was the super quiet, sleepy type. Last time I had my hair done I got my DM to look after baby DS only to have the lady next to me turn up with about a six week old! To be fair, the baby was mostly quiet, only crying for about ten minutes before the end. I didn't really mind, but think I would have been of it had been for longer as wanted to enjoy the rare quiet, baby free time I had. I also felt a little sorry for the baby as the mum kept saying how she was hungry when she was crying at the end but just kept her in her pram as she was having the cut done and couldn't really move properly.

I asked my hairdresser and she said I was very welcome to bring baby, and that she had an area I could feed if I needed to. She has 6 children and grandkids so very baby friendly! I was surprised as it's quite a small luxurious salon, but she was adamant it was totally fine. However I ended up getting DP to walk round the block, they had a good bonding session. I was able to relax but it was good knowing baby was close by.

DD is roughly the same age and Personally I wouldn't

I'd worry about the smell of all the hair products

And also people go to a salon to relax not be welcomed by a new born!

Is there absolutely nobody she could stay with for a few hours? Could baby stay with dad while you go?

I've taken mine in. They were bottle refusers and I had no other childcare options. I only have a cut and blow dry every few months, so it's not a long visit. Once they were old enough for nursery, I did it on a nursery day.

They take turns to have their hair cut at a double appointment now they're a bit older, so one is sat at the side with me while the other is in the chair.

Fuck NO! A salon is no place for a baby for a few hours

People go to relax and I know if I've gone to the salon a few hours away from my DC I don't want a newborn in the salon.

There must be someone that baby can stay with for a few hours? What about the Dad?

I did, he was ebf and I checked with he hairdresser first, he spent most of the time on me sleeping and at the most grizzled once and shut up as soon as food appeared.

I bf my dd throughout a whole head of highlights no one heard a peep from her. I also had to take her to three hours of root canal surgery I was rocking her whilst having the work done. Sometimes people just don't have any other options, never occurred to me not to take her

Would it be easier to have a mobile hair dresser come to your house? Might be less stressful for everyone

No, you should grow your hair and look like a shaggy yeti rather than dare to "destroy" someone's special time of peace

I had to take DD.
No, there wasn't anyone else who could have had her. Not everyone has childcare on tap.
99% of the time she was as good as gold. Once I had to leave a huge tip as various staff members walked her up and down outside the salon til she fell asleep (I could still see her!).

That said, I wouldn't have attempted highlights or any other lengthy treatment. Just a cut and blow dry.

I never took mine. Was too worried about the smells and of someone dropping something on them.

Hair still a mess.

Soup what if the salon says 'no'?!

My hairdresser she won't allow babies in the salon because there is no-one around to mind the baby.

also sometimes the co-owner brings his dog in... dogs and babies?

I think a large enough salon and staff willing to mind the baby fine or if baby falls asleep in pram but don't expect them to be unpaid childcare.

It was actually easier when DD was tinier, she slept. Once she was over 5 months it was impossible but then again, it was literally 45 mins in and out, two hours would have been too long.

I wouldn't. I'd worry about the smell, and spray everywhere etc. I've never seen a baby in a hairdresser's, and I'm pretty old.
