I wouldn't, at that age. I would be worried about all the smells etc, as well as her disturbing people. DD was about 3 weeks old when I had a major cut and colour post C-section and a few weeks in hospital; I left her with DP's mum and went home once the colour was on to feed her and rinse it at home before going back for the cut and dry. His mother was a bit shocked/amused that I left the salon with a dyed head, towel clipped to me etc, but it was better than leaving it grey!

Took her recently for a quick blowdry now she's 1, and she sat and watched it all with great interest.

It depends I think, I take mine but I go to a smaller hairdressers and go on the day just the one hairdresser is in so it's usually only me there so not a problem.

Enidblyton1 · 10/10/2016 16:35

Do you know the hairdressers well? I took mine once when she was about 8 weeks and I timed it for just after a feed and she slept the whole time. But I also knew that if she woke and cried I could feed her and/or the receptionist could cuddle her. Also it was a quiet time of day and I was the only person in the salon. Call them and ask - suggest you could go at a very quiet time.

Thanks for all your opinions and advice.. my appointment is in the morning and they've not been open today.. my childcare let me down last minute.
It's a very small salon and I'm usually the only one there, I think I will just go at 9 with the baby and ask them what they think. If it's a no then I can rearrange. I just feel bad that they will be let down with no time to fill the spot as I can't contact them before.
She's a good baby and would probably sleep through it but obviously not guaranteed. I was also really really looking forward to not having grey hair!!

I think last minute OP you should be fine and if you're the only one there no one will be bothered!

enjoy your haircut time. Smile

I did, at a little past that age. I went at the same time as my mum - we were being done by the same stylist, so just took turns pushing the pram and he slept through a lot of it. When he did wake I fed him and swayed a bit so there weren't any screaming fits.

Not sure I'd have done it without having someone there as a back up in case he needed attention whilst I was being done.

5madthings · 10/10/2016 17:15

I have always taken mine they either bfed, or were in pram. Never been an issue at all and I have been to loads of hairdressers. It's fine when they are little, it's once they get older and want out of pushchair that it's can be a pita. Still took them when I had to just armed with snacks, small toys and kept them strapped in.

LeatherAndLace · 10/10/2016 17:23

I would have at that age but he was a contented little thing as long as he had access to my boob.

And I wouldn't mind about a baby crying during my 'quiet time'. As long as I'm not the one trying to soothe them it doesn't bother me.

blueturtle6 · 10/10/2016 17:23

I did, I had no childcare and really needed a cut and colour.she slept the while time.
Really depends on the baby

Frazzled2207 · 10/10/2016 17:27

I did when they were tiny, they needed almost constant feeding and I did it discretely under the cape. No crying. Once a few months old they were left with dm or dh.
Went during the week when quiet. Wouldn't go on a saturday when busy, the pram would have been a nightmare.

SpeckledyBanana · 10/10/2016 17:29

I did. DD was 10 weeks, I asked permission first. It was fine.

My salon welcomes children, and are good with toddlers so kids aren't an unusal sight.

BenLinusatemyhomework · 10/10/2016 17:37

Well it's a salon not a spa and people are paying to have their hair done, not get 'me time', so as long as the baby isn't physically stopping that process, then there is actually no real problem.

That said, I would prefer not to have children (mine or anybody else's) around whilst I'm getting my hair done but wouldn't pitch a fit about it if someone did bring a baby. Could somebody come with you and take baby out for a walk whilst your in there and then they could pop in if baby was unsettled?

SpookyMooky · 10/10/2016 18:02

I've found small local, non-swish salon fine but there are other more "designer" salons where I wouldn't. Have only tried it for cuts though, not colour.

MrsDilligaf · 10/10/2016 18:17

I took DD when she was around 8 weeks - to be honest it didn't even occur to me not to. Having said that I did just pop in on the spur of the moment.

I wouldn't take her now because she's a bloody pest an hour or so to myself is an absolute luxury.

Windthebloodybobbinup · 10/10/2016 18:40

I did, it was a quiet hairdresser on a weekday morning and I had the place to myself. Baby fed and slept throughout, it was wonderful to spend an hour on myself! Highly recommend if the hairdresser is sympathetic.
