About bottle flipping

Venting here really as I am quite proud that I have managed not to scream 'FFS pack it in' over this bloody craze.
I KNOW it is harmless fun but argh how hard is it to remember not to do it in the house or places that will annoy people? And use a throwaway water bottle not a fucking sticky juice one so if it splits it doesn't matter?
Tell me I'm not alone...

Never heard of it, what do you have to do with the bottle to flip it?

KittyOShea · 09/10/2016 18:12

As a teacher I feel your pain. We used to allow bottles of water on the desk. Not any more. Too tempting for them to have a quick flip- even the 16 year olds who should now better.

KittyOShea · 09/10/2016 18:13

*know

EnidB · 09/10/2016 18:13

I saw a delightful version - no attempt to catch it, just hit the ground with a splat - or is that the point? These young people Confused

ParadiseCity · 09/10/2016 18:14

Giratina it is pretty much just picking up a bottle throwing it in the air and hoping it lands upright. Cheap hobby really.

Yanbu - all I can hear from upstairs is thump thump thump Angry and I've been told by my ds that the best bottles for flipping are the Costco water ones Confused

minionsrule · 09/10/2016 18:24

Oh OP thank you. My DS has been doing this for week (year 7), I now know it is a craze and he is not a freak Grin.
Its just so bloody noisy (and pointless). He does at least use cheap small bottles but he does it indoors so if the top comes off...... well he can bloody clear it up

Salmotrutta · 09/10/2016 19:05

Another teacher here - I'm on October holidays just now and its bliss not having to reprimand pupils all day every day for this ridiculous craze.

It's doing my head in!

anon123456 · 09/10/2016 19:05

banned at DC school.

quite impressed i managed to do it Smile
just a bit of fun

AfternoonNapsAreTheBest · 09/10/2016 19:11

I have just read this thread to DH and it's made him very happy! He spent this morning with a group of 9 year olds at football who were doing it incessantly, and then it started again at an 11 year old's party this afternoon. He was tearing his hair out!!! Where does it come from and why is it even a thing?????!!!!!!!!!!

Salmotrutta · 09/10/2016 19:11

It's just a bit of fun anon if it done outwith school hours in their own garden or whatever.

It's absolutely not a "bit of fun" when they are doing it in class, along the corridors or during form time. It's disruptive and creates a mess if the bottle splits.

Pantah630 · 09/10/2016 19:13

Ahh thank you, I wondered why the Cubs kept doing this, was driving me up the wall, didn't realise it was a thing. Hmm

snapcrap · 09/10/2016 19:15

IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY.

I have three teenagers and dozens of their friends several times a week. The noise is going to send me to an early grave.

TheTyrannyOfMAGENTA · 09/10/2016 19:16

See the thing is, with crazes in general, how does it get so wide spread so fast at the same time?? And something as random as flipping bottles? How did that get to all the schools at the same time?

FithColumnist · 09/10/2016 19:17

Kill them all. Yes, it is rather annoying. I confiscate their water bottles if they do it in my classroom.

Howlongtillbedtime · 09/10/2016 19:17

I feel your pain . Have had this since the beginning of summer and it is showing no signs of going .

I wouldn't mind too much but they keep showing me the film of them doing it as well .

pieceofpurplesky · 09/10/2016 19:17

Banned at our school too. Was fun until it started taking over lessons. Water must now be away at all times. And of course a successful flip was followed by a dab!

Howlongtillbedtime · 09/10/2016 19:18

You have YouTube to thank magenta !

iMatter · 09/10/2016 19:19

Banned at ds1's school too

Oblomov16 · 09/10/2016 19:19

Ds1 showed this to me this week. Was a mystery to me!!

RaisingSteam · 09/10/2016 19:22

Yes it's a thing. DS2 chanced it flipping the ketchup bottle at teatime!
Only benefit is that it's cheap. And recyclable.

Frenchplait · 09/10/2016 19:22

Oh yes, DS has been doing this for a while. Not harmless fun when you end up with 4 pints of milk over the kitchen floor and walls. The cleaning up seems to have cured him from his incessant bottle flipping.

BearFeet · 09/10/2016 19:24

Me, dh, ds 9 and dts 5 all do it in this house. If you can't beat them join them. Once you get the hang of it it's how many you can do in a row.
I get teachers don't want it in class, but at home it's a fun addictive activity that we can all do together.
Lighten up people!

murmeli · 09/10/2016 19:24

Teacher here... Bottle flipping and dabbing. Both equally annoying.

wizzler · 09/10/2016 19:24

Oh god... I thought it was just us... knowing it is driving families nuts across the nation helps a little!

Banned in our house.. much to the disgust of DS
