Do you smoke or not? And what about the rest of your family?
We're an all smokers family...

Are you asking just to know an average of who smokes or not, or asking a question around AIBU?

thehugemanatee · 07/10/2016 20:06

Yes and so do my parents and siblings, uncle, grandparents were also all smokers. My aunt doesn't.

HKHKHR · 07/10/2016 20:24

No one in my family smokes. Some of the older generation did smoke back in the 70/80s but all gave up by mid 80s. Smoking was never been fashionable in my lifetime.

WhooooAmI24601 · 07/10/2016 20:26

Nope. I grew up with my dad smoking but saw him end up incredibly unwell as a result. He gave up before he turned 50 and still ow over 20 years later suffers the consequences. I've never smoked in my life, nor has my mum.

DH smoked when we met and gave up when he was 29. Nobody else in our families smoke. Lots of friends do, though. It doesn't bother me unless there are DCs about.

Heirhelp · 07/10/2016 20:27

I don't smoke. Nobody else in my family does. My Mum gave up 10 years ago. She is very ill now with hear failure and COPD. I resent that she chose to smoke and smoked around me as a child.

MargoReadbetter · 07/10/2016 20:30

We don't. Giving up is just about the most important, significant thing you can do for yourself and your family. Please try again. There is still (still, who knows where the cuts will fall next?) help available.

BlancheBlue · 07/10/2016 20:32

Smoking is a vile habit.

UnicornPee · 07/10/2016 20:32

I was until my OH mother suddenly dropped down dead all because of smoking. Haven't touched one ever since (9months)

BennyTheBall · 07/10/2016 20:34

Apart from a nephew that vapes, the only other smoker I know is someone from work who is about 60.

TheWeeBabySeamus1 · 07/10/2016 20:35

My maternal gps both smoked, 3 out of their 4 daughters smoke. My mum and dad smoked and so do I (as did my sister) but not my brothers.

ageingrunner · 07/10/2016 20:36

I've smoked on and off since being 13 Sad
Have had long periods of not smoking at all during that time (now early 40s)
I've stopped now and won't start again. It stinks 😷

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 07/10/2016 20:37

No, it stinks. Among other reasons.

Mybeardeddragonjustdied2016 · 07/10/2016 20:39

Non smokers. Tho an aunt did and I went nc with her as she refused to not smoke while I visited with my dc. Ds caught whopping cough at a fortnight old then continually caught bronchiolitis due to his lungs being fragile. She still thought it was appropriate to smoke around him. We sat in the garden during the summer months while she chain smoked but come winter we stopped going. She was furious.

Oysterbabe · 07/10/2016 20:40

None of my friends or family smoke except for my sister.

ThePortlyPinUp · 07/10/2016 20:45

Maternal grandparents smoked but gave up in the early 80's, my dad and sister smoke and I'm a vaper having given up fags a few years ago. My nan has lung and oesophageal cancer and DH has cardiovascular disease (several MI's) so I know the health damage they cause but I must admit I still miss it. Obviously won't start again though.

dementedpixie · 07/10/2016 20:57

My mum and dad smoked (my mum still does, my dad is dead). One brother and sister used to smoke but gave up but the other 2 brothers still smoke. They may vape sometimes too. I have never smoked and hated living at home as a teen as everything stank. Dh and I don't smoke and hopefully the kids won't take up the habit in the future

KinkyAfro · 07/10/2016 20:59

Nope, used to but none of my friends/family smoke cigarettes.

weegiemum · 07/10/2016 21:00

no-one in our family smokes.

ds (14) has admitted to trying it recently. dh went through him (dh is a GP so is dealing with smokers/ex smokers and the results of that daily)

Ds got a real fright and said he won't do it any more. I hope thats true.

Floridasunset · 07/10/2016 21:02

We are non smokers. I think it's a disgusting habit, is irresponsible and hate being around it.

So don't feel strongly about it all Grin

Destinysdaughter · 07/10/2016 21:03

Did for 30 years but have vaped for the last year now. So glad I don't smoke any more!

Sonders · 07/10/2016 21:04

I don't spoke, DM smokes 60+ a day, her dad and brother used to smoke but gave up years ago. Grandad now recovering from lung cancer. DH & family don't smoke but he lost a gran to COPD from smoking last year.

I've never been tempted and despise it, I don't understand why anyone would want to guarantee dying quicker doing something that also smells awful.

Mummyoftwo91 · 07/10/2016 21:06

Everyone in my family smokes expect for me, in my husbands family no body smokes except him, weird!

Babyroobs · 07/10/2016 21:08

No none of my family smoke. I have nursed hundreds of patients who have died fom smoking related illness over a 30 year career.

Ginmakesitallok · 07/10/2016 21:09

I stopped smoking just over 3 years ago, my db stopped about 5 years ago, my dm stopped about 2 months ago, my dfil died 17 years ago from cancer. None of my family smoke now.

MyBreadIsEggy · 07/10/2016 21:10

My mum, my sister and all my aunts/cousins on that side smoke.
My dad and me have smoked in the past but both quit very easily!
We've tried numerous times to get my mum to stop, but she won't.
