Tayto Crisps

AIBU to think that DM/DF, DSibs should not steal my Tayto crisps. They are one of my few luxuries and due to my allergies their treats are left unmolested while mine are constantly raided. Anytime I raise this issue they either laugh it off or guilt trip me into "sharing" them (sharing normally goes both ways)

Let us know what the veggie roll flavour ones are like-the curry chip and Ulster Fry ones are minging. Not as mingling as that vile Tayto chocolate though Grin

Myownperson · 03/10/2016 23:31

I'm really confused that there's more than one type of Tayto. Don't they all come from Tayto Castle? I haven't had any in ages. Best crisp sandwiches ever.

Lovewineandchocs · 03/10/2016 23:32

Cross post! Did you like the Tayto chocolate?

MissMoo22 · 03/10/2016 23:34

Ah yes, we are border people so that probably explains DP's taste.

Tayto chocolate is rank.

KittensWithWeapons · 03/10/2016 23:35

Croissant, King crisps are lovely. But the best ever were Cheese and Onion Perri. In the pub, with a pint. I'm very sad that they've been discontinued!

But no ConsentImplied, YANBU. When I was staying with family in the US I witnessed a spat over the last packet of Tayto that had been brought over to them Grin.

On the North / South divide, I think Cheese and Onion from the south are way better than their NI counterparts, but Smokey Bacon from NI are so much better than from down here .

JsOtherHalf · 03/10/2016 23:35

I'm sure someone on a thread about Tayto said that the Aldi own brand cheese and onion are made by Tayto.

Would they be worth a try? Failing that, lock them in a suitcase in your room?

Amalfimamma · 03/10/2016 23:35

NuggetofPurestGreen

Ah yes border people probably wildcards

How dare you 😈

there is no probably about it 😂

EverySongbirdSays · 03/10/2016 23:36

I can't say I liked it and I can't say I disliked it - it was ODD - an experience unto itself.

Happyhippy45 · 03/10/2016 23:36

Totally get this. I am on a very low sodium diet and my DH an ds keep eating my salt free crisps when there is other stuff on offer. Reallly fucking annoying.

JenLindleyShitMom · 03/10/2016 23:37

I'm a northerner who loves the real ones from the south. Grin

We are like vultures when my mum comes back from a trip across the border. There are also a few shops here that sell them too. Not close enough to keep me in constant supply though. Sad

BennyTheBall · 03/10/2016 23:37

I think they're horrid.

My dh is working in Dublin at the mo and asked me what he could bring back. 'NOT Tayto crisps!' is what I texted him.

EverySongbirdSays · 03/10/2016 23:44

For those of us in England, both the North/South versions available on Amazon, the North ones do indeed have a completely different manufacturer, Tayto make South Tayto, O'Kane make North - two different products same name, very Irish!

I am so fucking tempted by this.

Emison · 03/10/2016 23:47

You should! It's totally worth it!

Emison · 03/10/2016 23:51

BTW our (proper) Mr Tayto character has a dark secret. In fact he's not a Mr at all but is played by a rather petite lady Wink

Amalfimamma · 04/10/2016 00:00

I remember the first time I had free state tayto.

I was about 7 and we'd gone to fundoran for the day. Buttered bread had been taken from home and tayto bought while there. I have a funny feeling of anyone digs deep enough they'll find the sandwiches we buried.

KittensWithWeapons · 04/10/2016 00:14

Ha Jen, we do the same but in reverse Wink. Up North for Smokey Bacon Tayto, Walkers Squares (though they're getting harder and harder to get), Fish & Chips (you know, the cracker ones), and Deli Lites sambos. We should establish a snack exchange Grin

Highlandfling80 · 04/10/2016 00:20

OMG I had salt and vinegar tayto crisps when I visited Ireland in the summer. They were lush. I really want some now.

Whatdoesaduckdo · 04/10/2016 00:27

It has to be northern tayto

But what is all this Ginny Annness with pieces of bread for a crisp sammich

You need a Belfast bap, hollowed out with an entire bag of cheese and onion poured into the hole

Food of the gods

TriJo · 04/10/2016 00:31

Southern Tayto, on white Kerrygold-buttered batch bread... /drool

Nordie Tayto can feck right off.

Whatdoesaduckdo · 04/10/2016 00:33

Trijo is the kerrygold to give the crisps some flavour? Wink

BeastofCraggyIsland · 04/10/2016 00:39

Norn Tayto every time! My Mum brings me multipacks every time she visits and DP always raids them Angry If he wasn't pretty lovely the rest of the time I'd LTB.

If he stole my Veda that would be a leaving offence though; luckily he knows better and sticks to the crisps.

KittensWithWeapons · 04/10/2016 00:39

Amalfimamma, but you have San Carlo cheese puffs! The best cheese puffs ever. Actually, San Carlo crisps are fecking amazing, in general.

SallyR0se · 04/10/2016 00:42

Prefer King. And Walkers! I used to get Manhattan Popcorn brought over when I was in London. What is it with popcorn in the UK?

Glastokitty · 04/10/2016 01:37

I live in Oz, and my mum sends me a box of Beef and Onion Tayto twice a year for birthdays and Xmas. Husband and son know they are MINE under pain of death. We can get Tayto Cheese and Onion in the supermarket for $2.50 a packet, but they are the Southern ones, and I'm a Nordie, but they still beat Aussie crisps. They are the only food I get sent from home (my husband gets teabags and proper Cadburys), and I really want to try the new flavours, might have to order another box, although the postage is painful!

OreoCat · 04/10/2016 06:05

tayto are grim
