I know I have reached 'that age' when

I treat myself to an electric blanket.

Now, I will clarify that I don't know what 'that age' is but I feel that my excitement over my new electric under blanket probably means I have reached it!

How did you reach 'that age'?

My 91 year old mum , thinks Bon Marche is too old for her!!!

Nakatomi · 04/10/2016 20:58

I blame most of it on being a teacher. When you're on your feet for 10 hours a day you go for comfort over style. My first year of teaching I was high heels and nice skirts. Now it's elasticated slacks and slip on shoes.

KatieScarlett · 04/10/2016 21:01

No Shock
I just thought it was for my granny. She was fond of girdles and bras that could stop a bullet at 20 paces. So MMoS was for... Other people??(there is no non contentious way of saying that, I've tried, but no)

cozietoesie · 04/10/2016 21:02

They look rather good, Laska. Grin

Feckitall · 04/10/2016 21:02

mm I get you! I'm 'little feck'...ironically I was considered mature 'for my age' when I was young...now its the reverse
Until recently had a manager who was a master at treating me as if I was 10.
I'm told I don't look 50 which I'll accept Wink but to be taken seriously and not treated with low expectations would be nice!

Daddymcdadface · 04/10/2016 21:02

My 7 yr old loves his electric blanket

BenLinusatemyhomework · 04/10/2016 21:04

Having a supply of bath salts in so you can have a nice hot salty soak when the old muscles and joints are aching which is most days.

Putting the Woodland Trust gift catalogue aside, to have a little look through later.

Realizing men don't look at you "that way" anymore and not being all that bothered.

Laska5772 · 04/10/2016 21:06

No its probably not, (its just my foul mind/ silly sense of humour ,..) , but seriously, I wonder how many people bought that stuff ?

Out of pure nosyness interest anyone want to share their age?
I'm 58 ( 59 soon)

KatieScarlett · 04/10/2016 21:09

My bubble baths used to be Badedas, Clinique or Chanel.
Now it's a choice of Radox "muscle soak" or "soothing lavender".
The other stuff lies dusty in my unguent cupboard. Saving it for best, you see...

KatieScarlett · 04/10/2016 21:10

47 (going on 90).

cozietoesie · 04/10/2016 21:13

What is this 'best' whereof you speak, Katie? Grin

BenLinusatemyhomework · 04/10/2016 21:13

I'm 40 going on 97.

GaryGilmoresEyes · 04/10/2016 21:17

I got excited today when the pound shop had four different types of zoflora so I bought two of each.
I crave macrame hanging baskets for my spider plants.
My work colleague dosent know what life was like before Internet/Google.
I bought an original Babysham glass off eBay.
The list is endless.

KatieScarlett · 04/10/2016 21:17

No idea.
There have been weddings, funerals, christenings, holidays...
All still untouched.
DD removes a selection by stealth whenever she comes home.
I don't even mind that much.

Laska5772 · 04/10/2016 21:18

Feck, going on this v.small sample , I AM that 'age' then

MaryLennoxWasAnAspie · 04/10/2016 21:21

Now I have always loved Radio 4, which as the old joke has it, 'over-fortifies the over-forties'. But I'm still not ready to contribute to a Call You&Yours on the price of heating bills. I recognised the name of an old teacher on there and realised it wasn't my fault I'd found her lessons so hard to concentrate on...Grin

Ohmygodareyouserious · 04/10/2016 21:23

When it's a lovely day and I think oh what a lovely drying day rather than 'which beer garden shall we choose'?

GaryGilmoresEyes · 04/10/2016 21:23

43 going on 95 here. I used to go out to parties on a Saturday night and come home on the first tubes. This Saturday I was invited out to a show but declined as it finished at the terribly late time of 10pm!

KatieScarlett · 04/10/2016 21:28

Does anyone else dress more smartly when going to the GP?
I took mum today, unthinkingly dressed up in my good jeans with a crisp white shirt and good shoes. Hair freshly done. Smart camel coat.
Mum wore her pearls and what can only be described as a twin set. (She usually lives in slacks and a T-shirt for everyday).
So there we were, in the waiting room, a sea of Nike and joggers about us, except for one elderly lady who caught my eye, nodded and smiled.
I am KatieScarlett and I dress for "the doctor" even when only accompanying the sick.

Nakatomi · 04/10/2016 21:28

I looooove Radox muscle soak. I should be worried that my underwear comes in a box that says "for the more forgiving fit" shouldn't I?

Can anyone tell me where Ajax appears from? It's something I associate with my grandma, same with Kaolin and Morphine. I have somehow acquired both of these things!

GoLightlyHollie · 04/10/2016 21:30

I bought my husband an electric blanket for his 40th. He always says how it was the Best Present Ever. His n' hers controls etc. When I get home from a cold night out and he has it on for me, my god it's the best feeling, getting into the warm bed.

Nakatomi · 04/10/2016 21:31

Who else still puts on a telephone voice? That definitely seems to be something that's dying out.

My students look like I'm talking about Victorian times when I talk about speaking to someone on the phone. "Can't you just text them, miss?" "What about whatsapp?"

Apparently someone not having Snapchat is the end of the world to them as well.

EtTuTuttiFrutti · 04/10/2016 21:32

I'm 53 and three quarters.

Some of you whippersnappers not having The Knowledge has shocked me.
Elderly mothers should hand down the knee pillow when their daughters hit 50. There ought to be a ceremony of sorts.

The, there would be the presentation of the giant tweezers and the special magnifying glasses.... as required to pluck out all the eyebrows that have gone on a foreign holiday to your chin...

cozietoesie · 04/10/2016 21:35

Ah. Like the 'scone shoes'. Grin

MaQueen · 04/10/2016 21:37

KS I caught myself telling the DDs 'to put something smart on' because 'we were going into town'. They looked at me like this Hmm
