Blanche nope, I know a lot of farmers (and am a farmer's daughter), they all drive RR. No defenders and definitely no discos.

We have a RR, I'm blonde, wear shades, live in a town, I'm not remotely overweight and I'm 29. I don't give two hoots what people think. It's only a car!

Anyone got any stats on pedestrian injuries from accidents involving 4x4 versus 'normal' cars?

I may be wrong but it feels like a 4x4 would cause more injuries than a regular car. Thinking you could roll over the bonnet in a normal car where you wouldn't if a 4x4 hit you. You'd get more torso injuries and maybe end up underneath it.

But I can mow down waaaaaaay more grannies in my RR than I could in a micra.

I have a Volvo XC90 which is range rover sized, and I have it because it is the safest 7 seater on the road. However, it is fucking humungous and a pita to park, which is why I park further away in the emptiest part of the car parks. There is a spot in my local town car park which is quite a bit wider than the others as it is on the end of a row, and I snag that if I can!

Lucky Ah the difference between tenant and "gentleman" farmers I guess

holycrow I'm not doubting that it's safe. Range Rovers get pretty bloody good safety ratings. It's just that mine is safer. Especially for pedestrians. And it isn't the size of a tank.

And is alson expensive car so not green eyed monster speaking.

(But is perhaps the voice inside my head speaking that is forever bitter because of that silly moo in a range rover that made me cry when I was the one helping her out. Perhaps therapy might help?!?.....)

so much safer than a smaller car

I think it is the perception that they are safer rather than being rooted in evidence. It is the psychological feeling of being safe From being higher and in something that looks sturdy. Fifth gear staged a crash between a Land Rover Discovery and an Espace. Admittedly this was about 10 years ago, but the Espace provided much better protection for its occupants.

Most of the ones I see are driven by forever living boss babes Hmm

You would all hate me then.

I drive a warrior pick up truck, am slightly overweight and have blonde highlights.

It is much easier to reverse and park than a normal sized car I find. I don't hog the road though and give way accordingly.

I do use it for the school run, hairdressers and shop. But also use it for towing a horse trailer and moving feed etc so it does get used as it should.

I can't imagine a good reason someone will post a rant against a prestigious, good looking expensive car. Apart from one, probably - jealosy.

If you drive a Berlingo you don't get to criticise other cars. They hurt my eyes.

Fwiw I have a tiny car and am shit at reversing.

I just googled the berlingo.... The fiat multipla is slightly worse

It's the attitude that they are safer (for the occupants of course) that annoys me. They are not safer for others at all. They cause more damage in an accident, block visibility, dazzle oncoming traffic with higher set lights and are big polluters. Oh and no I'm not remotely jealous!

We had a Range Rover as a courtesy car for a couple of weeks while our Defender was being sorted. I absolutely loved it: smooth, quiet and luxurious. I was sorry to get the Defender back to be honest, I'd have one tomorrow if they were cheaper.

We have had Land Rovers for years. They are great for carrying around four kids, bikes, and camping gear.

See "new money" comment is snobbery at its best. As in people who worked hard to earn their money, off their own backs rather then those who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

I don't own a Range Rover but if someone likes it and wants it and wants to spend their own money on it then good for them.

I am not a car person so have what I need to get me and the kids from a to b. Dh is a complete petrol head and always has been ever since he was a teen doing up cars. He always has a car that's just a little above his "pay grade" and generally impractical. But that is his thing. He could never just have a make do car. Right now it is a super impractical 4 seater coupe that doesn't really suit our needs but makes him happy. Horses for courses. Dh would love a Range Rover sport but we are not quite there yet!

I drive a Volvo, I have never had an issue with RR drivers,TBH it's the people in Fiat 500's who need to learn to drive around here.

My mil has a Range Rover. She lives on a farm and actually needs a 4x4 to get around in winter though.

Well no one is forcing you to contribute. The op wants to talk about it and perhaps she wasn't on Mumsnet last time it came up.

I hadn't realised thread topics were a one shot deal now. If we applied this rule across the boards they'd be empty. How many P&C parking threads, Airline seat threads, WAHM vs WOHM threads have we seen?

Report
itsbetterthanabox · 01/10/2016 19:37

Yeah you are right op.
They are just about status. You definitely don't need one in the U.K.!
Takes up so much space which most places don't have. Selfish.

We have a Range Rover. But we do live on a farm, have too many children and dogs and have no taste.

My friend has just got a shiny new black one with personailed plates, having previously had a big BMW thing (she's married to a farmer but has nothing to do with the farm). We love her dearly but do have serious concerns about her taste.
