YABU to assume that 90% of range rover owners don't need a car that big - while they might not need it for that particular journey, few people buy a car that big and expensive when then never need a big, powerful car.

I think lots of people have range rovers they don't really need. To be honest we live in the middle of nowhere, on a farm, pull caravans and horse boxes and we don't need one. We are just vulgar new money types.

claraclutterbuck · 01/10/2016 20:00

A range rover evoque

Is not a range rover. Apparently it has damaged the brand almost beyond redemption.

Cluelessmun · 01/10/2016 20:04

I own a Range Rover and I am not blonde or overweight but I'll admit there's only myself,DD and DS Blush. I however worked hard to get one so it's a bit of a treat and comes in handy when dds riding school go to cross country etc .

paddypants13 · 01/10/2016 20:05

Oh, mine ran on LPG and petrol so emissions were lower. Sadly that was also her down fall as nowhere near me sells LPG.

Dinosauratemypudding · 01/10/2016 20:06

cherry it wasn't me who said about what the typical driver looks like.
True about the dogs though.
My dog is 36kg lurcher with arthritis. No way can he get in to a 4x4 on his own, also space wise I reckon there's more room in my berlingo than there is in an rr

OP posts:
StuffandBother · 01/10/2016 20:07

I love Range Rovers and could probably afford one at a push (my current car was 30k but very uniform and bland/non flash) .... but I'd feel such a twat in one GrinGrinand I'm a blonde 40 something fatty

WankersHacksandThieves · 01/10/2016 20:07

I'd just be glad not to have the headlights from all these high level cars shining directly into my eyes whenever I drive anywhere in the dark.

albertcampionscat · 01/10/2016 20:08

I usually assume they're scaredy-cars who can't drive very well.

dodobookends · 01/10/2016 20:08

The majority of the ones round here are old, battered and have cow shit mud on them, and are driven by farming types.

JacquesHammer · 01/10/2016 20:09

I find those charmers who use their fog lights all year round much worse. Or their full beams. Like they can't find the switch to turn them off and end up looking like a tool Grin

Dinosauratemypudding · 01/10/2016 20:09

Thanks soup I now realise Blush In my defence it was because of a couple of cocky moves by rr drivers in past couple of days that provoked me to post

Are you good at judging width OP? I'm surprised that you have been forced into pavements and into hedges by oncoming traffic. Are you sure there wasn't room for both of you?

Champagneformyrealfriends · 01/10/2016 20:12

The thing is my sister is the definition of "new money" Grin

Wordsaremything · 01/10/2016 20:13

Where I live, To have a Range Rover is pretty much akin to social suicide....

WankersHacksandThieves · 01/10/2016 20:13

Jacques, yes I agree to those too, but the high level cars are legitimately just using their headlights, unfortunately for anyone not driving a car the same, their lights are mounted at the perfect height to shine in the drivers eyes.

I'm finding it a real problem at the moment and it's making it difficult for me to drive at all in the dark. I'm coming to the realisation that i'll either have to become a hermit all winter or join the fuckers.

Welshmaenad · 01/10/2016 20:13

I drive a 'fake' 4x4 (it felt pretty real driving home from Tesco earlier, very solid, but I'm on a lot of painkillers so might just be high).

I'm not blonde, or middle aged. I'm a bit fat. I can park it like a champion. I give way to people 'cause I'm adorable that way.

I have it because we need the boot space for DD's wheelchair plus shopping plus assorted family crap. I have it in preference to an estate car because DD is disabled and I have a chronic pain condition and we both find the higher seats easier than getting 'down' into an estate.

I categorically could not drive a small car as it doesn't meet my needs. I acknowledge that I probably could get all our stuff into a Berlingo but I don't want to drive a Berlingo because they're fucking ugly.

Hope that helps.

musicinspring1 · 01/10/2016 20:19

I'm in sw London and am an overweight blonde who really wants a discovery.... judge away! Grin

BuggerMyOldBoots · 01/10/2016 20:24

All the farmers I know tool around in clapped out field cars. Usually some sort of late nineties estate. Why spend good money on a fancy car when there are tractors to buy?

I don't really have any feelings either way on RR, but are they doing a deal on them or something? A few years ago I'd see a variety of cars on the road, equal numbers of bangers and BMWs. Now every other car I see is a shiny RR type or a Ford kuga. I don't think the banger drivers have become affluent overnight, so what gives?

User14625592 · 01/10/2016 20:25

The Range Rover Evoque is like the new Ford Focus. Everyone has one now. They have completely lost their appeal!

tiggertigger · 01/10/2016 20:27

Think yrbu. I own an Evoque (so still wide but smaller than a Sport for example). I worked hard for it, paid cash for it and look after it. I hate parking it near other cars for fear that car owner doesn't care for their car as I do & might scratch (touch) my car. However, I drive gracefully, give way to others and am careful. I do love the fact that people don't mess with a RR. Cars don't get in the way because they know they'd probably feel the impact more so motorway driving is a lot easier.

I feel safe driving my baby around in it. It's 100% worth the money. Plus the RR service is fantastic.

I fully appreciate I am fortunate, but as I said, I've worked hard for it.

WaitrosePigeon · 01/10/2016 20:31

We have a brand new enormous RR (we own it, it's not leased).

We don't need it. We wanted it though. So we bought it.

You sound like you have a touch of the green eyed monster..

jbee664 · 01/10/2016 20:33

YANBU op, and not to mention the damage these fashion accessory cars are doing to the environment!
that's the perception but read up on the eco stats and it's not the case.

not sure where you're getting this cr*p from but it is a Range Rover and it actually turned the brand around after the recession.

I drive a fiesta before you make any assumptions but just know my facts.

BuggerMyOldBoots · 01/10/2016 20:36

Ah well, I suppose everyone works hard for the cars they drive, don't they? I certainly worked hard for my first car. It only cost £500 but I worked two jobs plus full time study, and cleaned toilets at 3am for months to afford that car and its insurance. Felt amazing when I bought it. Still miss it now.

herethereandeverywhere · 01/10/2016 20:40

I can't drive. My husband's car is not a RR.

YABU. Sounds like envy to me.

If you're going to pick on large vehicles and anti-social drivers why not single out 'white van man'?.......Because Ford Transits aren't desirable perhaps?....

Nakatomi · 01/10/2016 20:48

Completely agree. I drove a Range Rover for a week when my car was in for repair and that's all I could hire. Bloody hated it. I'm more than happy with my Honda Jazz, thank you very much!

It does always seem to be same sort of people who drive Range/Land Rovers and they're never farmers...
