Don't need such a big fucking car and should buy something else amd stop taking up most of the fucking road.

OP posts:

I could run over a small child in any car.

tigerdriverII · 02/10/2016 09:17

Gosh, it's all sackcloth and ashes with OP. Hopefully you don't apply the same rules to the rest of your life : after all we probably don't need 99% of the things we own or do....

I drive an evoque. I'm fat, middle aged and blonde - bingo Grin. The car's an unusual colour so doesn't have that blingtastic look.

I live rurally and a 4x4 is handy. I work in a town and do a lot of driving at weekends. My car ticks all the boxes, has enough space for our family. Remarkably I can park it without drama and I know where reverse is.

I have no qualms about driving off road and it's probably the muddiest evoque you're likely to see.

Your choice of car says much about your personality. I'm happy with what mine says. But fill your boots with your Berlingo if that's your bag.

larrygrylls · 02/10/2016 09:17

The damage is double in a RAnge Rover, though, as they weigh twice as much.

jbee664 · 02/10/2016 09:21

A range rover evoque Is not a range rover. Apparently it has damaged the brand almost beyond redemption.

not sure where you're getting this cr*p from but it is a Range Rover and it actually turned the brand around after the recession.

From Range Rover stock market announcements? Their sales are up but their profits are down as they are selling more cheaper cars. They make more money by selling their more expensive brands.

claraclutterbuck I suggest you look at company profits pre Evoque. it's obvious any company makes more from the more expensive products they sell but to say the Evoque 'has damaged the company almost beyond redemption' is one of the most ridiculous unfounded things I have read (as well as the Evoque not being a Range Rover when it clearly is) As a PP has also said, the Evoque is one of the motor industry's biggest success stories!

UmbongoUnchainedInAPearTreeeee · 02/10/2016 09:21

And?? I'm a careful driver. Perhaps we should ban all busses and vans and lorries then just invade they hit a toddler? Dont be so stupid.

WaitrosePigeon · 02/10/2016 09:25

Do you live on Mars?

WaitrosePigeon · 02/10/2016 09:26

Like buses, lorries etc. So....?

MammasBrandNewBag · 02/10/2016 09:32

Waitrose, please don't be so hyperbolic, it obviously does not follow that because I enjoyed seeing someone who inconvenienced me being inconvenienced themselves that I like to watch people's property being damaged.

You are obviously feeling a bit sensitive because some people disagree with your choice of vehicle. I really don't care what you or anyone else for that matter drives. But if you park on a narrow London road in your 4x4 and it gets damaged because it is too large, yes I will laugh and so will everyone else who has been blocked in or stuck in the build up of traffic caused when someone couldn't pass.

ShelaghTurner · 02/10/2016 09:34

Also used to hate them. But firstly discovered that the drivers are no more arsey than any other drivers once you start treating them as such (and I commuted through London daily for years so met my fair share of them). And secondly, would I drive one if I was given one? Hell yes!

I could say you're feeling sensitive by that reply at 9.32 but I couldn't possibly make that assumption based on an Internet post.

I'm really not feeling sensitive, like you're
probably not an awful person for laughing at other people's misfortunes, whether they deserved it or not.

WaitrosePigeon · 02/10/2016 09:39

Ps regarding my choice of vehicle. It's my husband with the 66 plate RR Sport. I drive a 10 plate 1.2 Corsa. I don't think anyone could brag about a Corsa Grin it's a sweet little thing though!

WaitrosePigeon · 02/10/2016 09:41

NavyandWhite, no I think it's just reserved for people that have high value possessions.

It comes up quite a lot on mumsnet. Part of that inverse snobbery thing.

I've not seen you in ages Navy. Or maybe we've not had a dog bashing thread in ages - that'll be a first Grin

It certainly seems like you have too apologise on here for having money.

Hmmm have read this thread through and nothing changes my view that they are generally an antisocial choice. They do not equate to free choice of say shoes or a bag as they have an adverse effect on the safety of others. I am stunned by the attitudes that they can be used to bully your way on a motorway or that if you care more about the occupants of your own car than those outside it they are an obvious choice!! I don't buy all the snow safety stuff either - they take longer to stop on the rare occasions we have snowy an icey conditions as they are heavier and people tend to drive them faster thinking they are safer.

QuestionableMouse · 02/10/2016 09:54

As someone who drives a big car, I think you're being unreasonable. The drivers are to blame, not what they're sitting in.

OjosCansados · 02/10/2016 10:09

Perhaps we should ALL drive Range Rovers. So then roads would become gridlocked, accident deaths would be more likely to those both inside and outside the cars, and the planet would become fucked in no time. Oh, and NONE of us would be able to get out of our cars in Waitrose car park so we'd all have to turn around and go home!

But luckily not all of us are that selfish.

larrygrylls · 02/10/2016 10:14

Waitrose,

A bus causes huge damage in collision but it means many other cars are not on the roads. So, net net, you could argue it saves lives. Also us drivers are meant to undergo training to be safer. Lorries have to be in the roads (although the less the better).

Choosing to buy a vehicle that has a mass of 2,000 kg unless you need it is a deliberate fuck you choice.

Umbongo,

I don't think you need to apologise for having money but ostentation has always been slightly looked down upon, especially out of context.

UmbongoUnchainedInAPearTreeeee · 02/10/2016 10:18

How is it ostentatious to state that incan goes to drive whatever car I want. And how do you know that the person you see driving through the city doesn't need that Range Rover.

UmbongoUnchainedInAPearTreeeee · 02/10/2016 10:19

AFFORD*

Cunting phone..

CoraPirbright · 02/10/2016 10:28

I don't have one but this whole "it takes up too much space on the road' argument really is nonsense. If you look at car specs, you will see that the foot print of many 4x4's is not much different to many estate cars and yet you never get threads about "oh those bloody Passats/Renaults/Citroens/BMW's" do you?? Granted, they are much taller which makes them look bigger but the road space argument doesn't hold up.

Just my opinion but I reckon it's much more to do with inverted snobbery and jealousy.

And ok, I admit it - I would love a defender. Iconic.

larrygrylls · 02/10/2016 10:29

Umbongo,

Because I know many Range Rover owners where I live and I know they don't need them. They are a mark of insecurity, really. 'I really need people to know I have made it'.

FlyingElbows · 02/10/2016 10:30

My car is over 3200 kg and not a single one of those kilos was bought as a "fuck you" to anyone.
