Anyone seen this "quiz" in the telegraph - aside from the fact that it is probably just to flog certain items, anyone agree with this list or come out with all of them.

Hot tubs ffs? "vulgar" no? Wink

just Grin. I did wonder, but it still worked...

jay55 · 29/09/2016 19:20

2 I am not middle class. I guess the list suggests the middle class live in houses not flats.

Katherine2626 · 30/09/2016 18:05

The best criteria I have yet seen to judge 'where you are' is that if your TV screen takes up more space than your bookcase then...you ain't middle class!

febel · 30/09/2016 18:18

Pile of rubbish....middle class to me is more based on attitudes than possessions. I own some of these (and it doesn't say how POSH a bbq...does it mean a £10 one or a £500 one?! On wheels or non fired?!) I have a pet Dyson cos we have a dog and it's the only machine which will get the hair off the carpet...but I bought it with Tesco rewards..does that negate the middle class label?!
Tosh....I am suprised at the Telegraph!

scalliondays · 30/09/2016 18:18

I scored 3 so definitely not middleclass despite my Brompton. A bit of a relief as I wondered if my rash purchase of a Dualit milk frother might have pushed me over the edge.

hamptonmummy · 30/09/2016 18:22

My opinion on class is that if you have to WORK to pay your bills & buy nice things (regardless of your job & salery) you are working class !!!

Capricorn76 · 30/09/2016 18:32

I agree with hamptonmummy, if someone in your house has to work, you are working class.

There is nothing wrong with being working class, people should be proud to provide for themselves. I think some people confuse working class with underclass.

If I had to box myself I'd be wealthy working class with professional job.

75daisies · 30/09/2016 19:55

Seriously are we actually taking this seriously? Do we care about class in this day and age? Some of the classiest people I know earn minimum wage and some right chavs are richer than Lucifer. It's about how you are as a person. It's just natural grace and elegance. Class is so last century Wink

littleprincesssara · 30/09/2016 20:44

I took both the middle class test and the linked posh test. I'm apparently not middle class but I am posh.

Vulgar or not I'd love a hot tub.

Notmuchtosay1 · 30/09/2016 21:33

I got solidly middle class. We live in a farmhouse so have an Aga. I wouldn't have thought many townies have an Aga. Log burning stove also often seen in farm houses. BBQ that's normal to own isn't it? Unless you live in a flat. I've got a dyson too. I had 6 on the list.

Doman · 30/09/2016 21:37

What a load of old twaddle! Stupid marketing quiz, methinks.

LongHardStare · 30/09/2016 21:53

Yay big fat zero. I don't even know what they all are...

topcat2014 · 30/09/2016 22:01

Suprised to find I am not middle class = which was news to me.

ScouseAT · 01/10/2016 07:52

Bamboozled by this. I am also relatively new to MN. The number of people who aspire to middle class or defending their middle class status amazes me. I hadn't realised class was still so important and being middle class something to be proud of.

MadameJosephine · 01/10/2016 07:56

0/16, what a shocker Wink

I was raised in a low income household on a council estate and went to the local comp so I am definitely working class but I was once told by a relative that I am now middle class because I am the first in the family to go to uni and to get divorced!

BuggerMyOldBoots · 01/10/2016 08:10

What a load of old twaddle. I can't believe anybody cares about this sort of nonsense anymore. Chances are, people will own much of the crap on that list but be in bucket loads of debt as a result! Is that middle class?

DoNotBlameMeIVotedRemain · 01/10/2016 08:21

We got 7 and I guess we are nouveaux riches which is what they are driving at. Working class background (free school meals etc, grant for uni etc), moved up social scale by getting good degree and qualifying into one of top professions. Married to someone similar. We are proud we can provide our kids with a more comfortable life than we had.

RunningLulu · 01/10/2016 09:49

So lets say you have none of those things but can save 20k a year, does that make you working class? Its a stupid article.

LittleBearPad · 01/10/2016 10:00

The quiz is rubbish and William Hanson's a prat.

JaceLancs · 01/10/2016 11:16

Apparently I'm solidly middle class whatever that means
I was brought up on a very poor council estate, by parents who had very mc attitudes
I went to university and am a professional
However am potless, live in an affluent area that I can't really afford, stayed to keep stability for DC after their father walked out, can't keep up with others locally (don't try too either)
Examples are driving a 13 year old car, still have a burgundy 70s bathroom suite and an ancient kitchen
I don't think I have a class as I don't seem to fit in anywhere

Doesn't seem to want to copy the link. Drat

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 01/10/2016 11:27

A leather sofa may be regarded as " a bit suspect"! Luckily, I have never possessed one.

pollymere · 01/10/2016 11:31

I'm so posh that I think many of these items are bought by what I refer to as Organic Quinoa people. They are social climbers who somehow think buying said items will catapult them into a higher class. I don't own these items because I don't feel the need for them, not because I can't afford them. Huge difference. The true upper classes will happily tuck into frozen chips and chicken nuggets cooked in a regular oven because they eat what they like and don't feel they have anything to prove.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 01/10/2016 11:47

Agreed re the so-called upper class. In a sense, though, the example you give points to an affectation, also.
Circles time.
