to ask if you would vote for Corbyn and what area of the country you are in?

Just curious as to whether Corbyn's re-election means his popularity is better than the polls suggest and also if there is a divide in the geographical location of his supporters.

So, would you vote for Corbyn if there was a GE tomorrow and what part of the country are you in?

Me: I would vote for him. I am in London.

I actually think that the way the media conducts itself at the moment is really problematic and undermines rather than promotes democracy in this country. There are massive conflicts of interest in terms of the commercial interests of those owning newspapers and the output that is churned out as a result. There is a huge lack of independent press in mainstream media and standards are frankly shit. Not just in relation to Corbyn - across the board. But perhaps that's a different thread.

Realhousewivesofshit · 03/10/2016 12:26

But it was ever thus! As I previously stated both labour and Tory leaders are under huge scrutiny. If you can't take the heat then fuck off.

Corbyn appears weak as he doesnt engage the public. He is one who is always 'against' policies but doesn't seem able to promote positive good costed policies.

When a leaders henchmen blame the media for bias it ususKly means they know dam well that their leader is failing to connect with the public.

He doesn't help himself by refusing interviews with proper tough journalists, it looks weak.

Realhousewivesofshit · 03/10/2016 12:28

And I don't really know anyone of even basic intelligence who doesn't realise that certain newspapers hold specific views.

The general public are actually quite sophisticated and can judge for themselves the cut of a politicians gib.

onwardsandupwardss · 03/10/2016 12:30

Again, I'm not arguing 'for' Corbyn - I was just presenting the LSE study as it is not just 'Corbyn's henchmen' or 'conspiracy theorists' claiming that there is media bias against this one particular political actor, there is proper academically reviewed evidence of this. It is really a bit of a tangent (I'm not even a Corbyn supporter) however given that the majority of mainstream press in the UK is owned by private commercial interests, with an explicit conflict of interest politically, there is something problematic about all this.

BadToTheBone · 03/10/2016 12:32

No, North East

But then, I've never voted labour.

BeMorePanda · 03/10/2016 12:36

HRWT - however none of us get to vote for Corbyn do we? Unless he is your local MP.

There is this misnomer that people in the UK get to "vote for the PM" - our primary school actually teaches this to pupils, so it is hardly surprising people think we all get a vote for PM. Seems we are getting confused with Presidential elections in USA?

Would I vote for my local Labour MP? Yes he's been doing a great job and as I live in a marginal Con/Lab seat I always vote Labour.

Do I want to vote for Labour as a party - no, not anymore.

I think they are lost.
I don't think they are good for women.
I don't think Corbyn has any voice, not one I get to hear anyway, and I am moderately politically engaged.

So for the first time in my life, I haven't got a clue how I will vote next election. It will never be the Tories though.

BeMorePanda · 03/10/2016 12:36

I'm in London

LeopardPrintFanny · 03/10/2016 12:39

No

Yorkshire

Having said that, I'll never vote Labour again no matter who leads.

Reluctant2ndtimer · 03/10/2016 12:48

Absolutely yes as I don't take any notice of the nonsense spouted about him by the right wing press and politicians, both in the Labour Party and others.

maggiethemagpie · 03/10/2016 12:55

See, I have a dilemma.

I want to vote for my local MP who is labout.

I don't want to vote for Corbyn.

My local MP doesn't like Corbyn she seconded the vote of no confidence against him.

So how can I vote for her without indirectly voting for him? I can't.

NNChangeAgain · 03/10/2016 13:22

So how can I vote for her without indirectly voting for him? I can't.

It's likely that she'll be deselected by the local LPBranch before the next election anyway, and replaced with a pro-Corbyn candidate.

CockacidalManiac · 03/10/2016 13:49

I'd happily support my local labour mp; he has nothing but contempt for Corbyn

NNChangeAgain · 03/10/2016 13:58

He'll be another one looking for a new job come 2020.

I honestly believe that momentum Labour will deselect the majority of the current PLP, selecting candidates who have displayed nothing but unwavering commitment to JC and his cause since 2015 and then.

How many will eventually end up in parliament depends on how many lifelong Labour voters are willing to turn their back on the party that has changed beyond recognition over the last 18 months.

You sound like the UKIP lot

The media are agisnt us

The ultra left are the ying to ukips yang you all sound the same

The media have it in for our leader

The followers are both nuts say crazy things raisct and sexist things on Twitter

And both accuse any one bar them selfs as the political elite lol begging to wonder if UKIP and momentum are actually the same group

Realhousewivesofshit · 03/10/2016 15:20

Exactly FishWife would love to see a head to head with a proper interviewer. He would probably do a John Nott around the falklands time and flounce off.

Realhousewivesofshit · 03/10/2016 15:24

And any good sensible hard working Labour MP whose against Corbyn, that's the definition of those against this ridiculous man, will be gone by the next election.

He can't stand opposition or dissent which is hilarious considering he's done exactly that to his party leaders all his political life.

PrimalLass · 03/10/2016 15:41

No.

Scotland.

Realhousewivesofshit · 03/10/2016 16:57

onwards

Appreciate you arnt a Corbyn supporter and the link is interesting and probably right but it's not unique to Corbyn. The media has always crawled over party leaders and Corbyn supporters should realise that fortunately with a free press that goes with the territory.

It has happened to both Tory and labour leaders.

NNChangeAgain · 03/10/2016 17:04

You sound like the UKIP lot

UKIP - no, I'm a Tory. What is it about my posts that gives you the impression I'm UKIP?

Realhousewivesofshit · 03/10/2016 17:29

I think Fishwives Is pointing out that both the far right and far left complain about the press bias.

Which generally means the press have the balance right. Smile

NNChangeAgain · 03/10/2016 18:11

I haven't complained about the media -I was responding to someone who had!
My thoughts are that even if the media are bias (which I don't necessarily think they are), then that's the environment politicians have to operate in, so if a specific high profile politician is unfairly targeted to the extent that it damages the party, they should go - not try and change the whole system and call those who don't agree "slow learners" - particularly from a position of opposition!

deblet · 03/10/2016 18:12

ItsJustNotRight Thu 29-Sep-16 19:59:15
Deblet - you vote for Dennis Skinner but not Corbyn? ??? Can I ask why ?

Hi ItsJustNotRight.

The answer is because Dennis is a great local MP. When you ring with a problem he sorts it if it is at all possible. He comes to the villages a lot just to do drop ins and chat to the local people. He works hard at his job. But Corbyn is weak in interviews, wants to scrap our defence system and is not going to sort out the immigrant problems. Living in a village that has been destroyed by the amount of Polish people moving in that does not bring me hope. Corbyn would be an embarrassment as a Prime minister he could not hold his own on a world stage.
