to secretly get rid of our kitten and tell the DC that it ran away?

SaggyBaggyPuss · 25/09/2016 14:37

Have had kitten for around 6 weeks now. DC have wanted a pet for a long time and I gave in and got one for them. Cats are easier to deal with than dogs right?

Well today, I have had enough. I had have to scoop 3 lots of shit out of the litter box and there was a piece of shit on the floor that must have come off her paws and which means that the whole house, and sofa is now covered in cat shit germs Envy puke!

It also runs up the curtains which are now all pulled. My leather --look- dining chairs have scratch marks where it keeps jumping up the back of them and it has pulled up the carpet on the stairs.

DS (6) is constantly chasing it round the house with an incessant cackle (over excited, not cruelly, the cat loves him) which does my head in and keeps taking it upstairs to lie on his bed.

Last week, it has a runny arse and I still have the wounds where I had to bath it, not before it spread kitty shit germs everywhere again.

As a side note, I also suffer from OCD. Not 'a bit' but actually diagnosed.

I love my DCs to bits but they also love the kitty a lot. I am not sure I can put them first this time!

WIBU to find a good home for it and tell them it ran off into the forest and I couldn't find it

It's for emphasis. Sometimes used to emphasise non-truthfulness, apparently, I've read.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 25/09/2016 20:26

Emphasis? Self-righteous indignation?

Yes to both. Plus self importance - what you are about to say about yourself is SO IMPORTANT and SERIOUS that you need to use two pronouns.

I myself am a twat who goads on the internet and thinks it's funny. See?

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 25/09/2016 20:30

Yes to that too. It's when someone is fibbing but want to make him/herself extra sincere.

So what do you do? I myself am a charity worker in war torn countries I am a receptionist.

Or I myself am a vegetarian I enjoy a KFC as much as the next person.

AppleJac · 25/09/2016 20:37

I wont have a pet. I do like things very clean with no marks and scratches on etc.

I grew up with dogs and always said when i left home i would never have a pet. My sister is the same.

The mistake you have done is getting a cat because the kids wanted one. They made empty promises about what they would do with it etc (as kids do) and now you have been lumbered with the donkey work.

If its not working out then you are well within your rights to re home the cat. The kids are not doing as they promised, its hard work and you have realised that this is not for you.

However i would not get another pet at all despite what the kids promised in the years to come

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/09/2016 20:39

What did you expect from a litter box ? Seriously?
i work for RSPCA and we can't cope with the number of abandoned/ dumped kittens for similar selfish reasons. However in my area we do NOT euthanise. We try and rehome but are stretched to the max.
People like you make me very sick.. people like me have to pick up the fall out of all these unwanted creatures and there's barely enough money to go around. Hope kitten finds a loving home where she's actually wanted

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/09/2016 20:41

I agree with Ringading. Babies piss and shit. You deal with it, you take care of it. Same with many old people.
You don't chuck them out or neglect them or talk about re homing.

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/09/2016 20:43

'Spread kitty shit germs' ? I'm fuming here.
Didn't your kids shit and piss? What about those germs?
Seriously. did you want an animal that has a sealed up arse hole? Kind of like the mermaid of the cat world?

SaggyBaggyPuss · 25/09/2016 20:45

I actually got her from the RSPCA (born to a stray to their care). She was just over 10 weeks when we got her. I was unaware that was too young to be taken away from the mother - they should have surely - scandalous. I thought it was 8 weeks onwards. Silly me.

I did clearly state that she was 4 months and we had had her for 6 weeks.

Saggy - are your children old enough to be told, and to understand that, unless they start doing what they promised, you won't be able to keep the kitten?

I think you need to give them one last chance to step up, and if that doesn't work, and you do re home the kitten, tell them the truth - don't, whatever you do, tell such a scary and upsetting lie as you suggest in your OP.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 25/09/2016 20:52

Love the way you respond to correct people on certain aspects OP but won't answer repeatedly asked questions. Very telling.

SaggyBaggyPuss · 25/09/2016 20:58

What repeatedly asked questions? I must have missed them among all the name calling and disgustedness.

OP posts:
SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 25/09/2016 21:00

Yes you have missed them. RTFT.

Do you honestly not understand why people have not rushed on to tell you you're totally in the right, you gotta do what's right for you hun etc?

LineyReborn · 25/09/2016 21:01

The discustedness is clearly shocking.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/09/2016 21:02

I have asked the same question three times - with no mp name calling or disgustedness, Saggy - the last time just after your 20:45:09 post.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/09/2016 21:02

No name calling - no idea why an mp snuck in there. Confused

CancellyMcChequeface · 25/09/2016 21:03

OP, I think there's a lot of unnecessary harshness on this thread. You thought you could cope with having a pet, and wanted to for your children's sake, but it turns out that because of your MH issues it isn't easy for you.

I don't have OCD but I'd never get a cat because I hate the idea of having to deal with its shit and piss. It isn't the same as a human baby or elderly person - maybe it is to an animal-lover, like lots of posters on this thread seem to be, but not to me. I remember an incident as a teenager when my sister's cat crapped in our sink (!) and how long I spent scrubbing it even after it looked perfectly clean because I didn't want dishes that I was going to eat off of anywhere near that. I'm a vegetarian as well and care about animal welfare, but I don't want them in my home.

You aren't going to abandon the cat, you've said you'll rehome it, and that sounds like the best option for both you and the cat. Ignore all the vitriol, it isn't as if you can go back in time and un-purchase the cat now! I agree that you should tell your children the truth, though.

gettingtherequickly · 25/09/2016 21:03

Oh dear, how very sad.
Do you think you can get counselling for your OCD?
Definitely look to rehome the kitten, but tell your children the truth, they need to understand that your behaviour is unnatural.

thisusernameisnotavailable · 25/09/2016 21:06

OP if you're in or near Surrey I will take her. I'm a confirmed cat lady and have 6 already so one more will make no difference.

Pm me if you really want her re homed and are not too far xx

StStrattersOfMN · 25/09/2016 21:08

Well, if you got her from the RSPCA you are required to give her back rather than rehome her yourself, so I have no idea why you even bothered starting this thread, other than as a wind up.

GabsAlot · 25/09/2016 21:08

are we playing mental illness top trumps?

i have had my cat 17 year since she was 12 weeks-she loves to sick up furballs everywhere i dnt go mad its what they do

did your kids not shit alot what did u do then

StStrattersOfMN · 25/09/2016 21:08

Oh yeah, I forgot. Should you lie, or not, to your children Hmm

liz70 · 25/09/2016 21:09

"I myself am a vegetarian."

So am I. I still think you're acting like a pillock. Hmm

Whilst I'm sure this doesn't apply to everyone with OCD, I think some sufferers (particularly when wanting to please other people) think they'll be able to cope with a scenario until they're faced with the reality of it. It sounds a bit like that's what's happened here, OP?

george1020 · 25/09/2016 21:11

TBH exposure therapy is what most professionals recommend for OCD so the kitten might be a good thing.

mycatwantstokillme1 · 25/09/2016 21:13

FWIW

I think OP meant her post to be slightly lighthearted and people have pounced on her with such anger I'm quite astounded! She's not said she's going to dump the kitten and hasn't neglected it.

I think you were also being lighthearted about lying to the kids but if you weren't, that's really NOT a good idea. They'll always be waiting for it to maybe come home and the not knowing what happened will be horrible for them.

If you want to find a new home for the kitten, be honest and tell them. They will be upset but will get over it.

And for those posters saying OP is playing the MH card. Sorry, I didn't know people with OCD or another mental health disorder weren't allowed to have a sense of humour! I think some people on here tonight need to do some meditation and stop taking their deep rooted issues out on the OP who is clearly not a danger to animals but has just made a mistake.
