to secretly get rid of our kitten and tell the DC that it ran away?

Have had kitten for around 6 weeks now. DC have wanted a pet for a long time and I gave in and got one for them. Cats are easier to deal with than dogs right?

Well today, I have had enough. I had have to scoop 3 lots of shit out of the litter box and there was a piece of shit on the floor that must have come off her paws and which means that the whole house, and sofa is now covered in cat shit germs Envy puke!

It also runs up the curtains which are now all pulled. My leather --look- dining chairs have scratch marks where it keeps jumping up the back of them and it has pulled up the carpet on the stairs.

DS (6) is constantly chasing it round the house with an incessant cackle (over excited, not cruelly, the cat loves him) which does my head in and keeps taking it upstairs to lie on his bed.

Last week, it has a runny arse and I still have the wounds where I had to bath it, not before it spread kitty shit germs everywhere again.

As a side note, I also suffer from OCD. Not 'a bit' but actually diagnosed.

I love my DCs to bits but they also love the kitty a lot. I am not sure I can put them first this time!

WIBU to find a good home for it and tell them it ran off into the forest and I couldn't find it

Ignore all the negative bastards on here OP. Do what you feel is best.

dybil · 25/09/2016 21:18

I also think the 'well you dealt with your children's shit so you should be able to deal with this' kind of comments don't really appreciate how irrational OCD can be. If people could control their unwanted, obsessive thoughts then I'm not sure they could be said to have OCD.

liz70 - pillock is a much underused word - cheers for reminding me of it!

Twogoats · 25/09/2016 21:21

Can you post a picture of the kitten, op? Smile

JellyOnIcecream · 25/09/2016 21:22

To all the people who post in response to this thread: if you knew that cats n kittens throw up, shit everywhere (cat shit stinks), leave fur over every surface, bring in dead animals n insects, scratch furniture/your limbs to pieces etc... Why the f**k did you get a cat?? Don't you have better things to do with your time than clean up after mangy animals? Why do you want shit n fur all over your house? Why??? I think the op is right, get rid of the cat op and put it down to a big mistake

Saggy as you have three older DC can you not work out a rota between them to do the litterbox?

When were you planning to rehome her? When she's spayed? Before she's spayed?

IMO you should accept as the adult you bought the kitten not your DC (they wouldn't be able to legally as children so even if you bought it for them, legally the cat is yours) And you obviously didn't consider the lifespan (my Rescue cat lived to 17yo) your DC will all be moved out before the cat .

I think she'll become easier in time, cats usually like their outdoor territory more than indoors. You should ride it out .

My DD and I have 5 guinea-pigs, she's very allergic to one of them. I've said if the piggie allergy gets too much I will have him. They are my responsibility.
And the guinea-pigs, like myself are vegetarian Wink

I've just (2 weeks ago) taken in a rescue cat (about 18m we think) from a local sanctuary.

She had a homenwhen she was younger (they think) but was dumped in a park with her kittens. All now dead.

She is very shy. Doesn't come out to play. Hisses at us if we get too close. And cries at nighttime - we think for her kittens.

She is hard work. Harder than I imagined. But. Every day she gets a bit braver. Today she was sat on the window sill. Until we came home then she bolted back to her beach towel under the chair. First 3 days she didn't use her litter (used our couch instead....plusside is couch is now the cleanest it's ever been!) but knows where it is now. I don't like emptying it. But I do it because that's what you have to do.

Your kitten is acting like a kitten. And that's a good thing. You can train them. They just need time work and love.

My cat needs all the time work and love in the world. But until she learns to trust us she's not going to be a "proper" cat (chasing string sitting on laps cat). I wouldn't rehome her. I couldn't. She'd never learn to trust people again.

Yabu to think of rehoming. Stick with it. Make your kids help.

because jelly we love our pets thats why we do it

Ememem84 · 25/09/2016 21:33

This is my rescue baby. She's currently in her litter box having a scratch around (plastic box, wooden pellets so noisy) we put an old towel down for her so she doesn't track stuff around.

She eats Royal canin because it's what she was given at the shelter. I may change it in time. But for now it seems good.

Before she was scratching in the box she was chasing a ball around like a crazy.

JellyOnIcecream · 25/09/2016 21:34

Garden
That's fair enough, just don't get some of the other ppl posting things to the effect of: 'how terrible op, your so mean, my cat shits everywhere, even on my face in bed at night, it's what kittens do. Shrug' I mean, that's not advertising cat ownership very well is it lol. Seems like your sorted with it though Smile

ghostyslovesheep · 25/09/2016 21:36

good job cat ownership isn't compulsory then!

PosiePootlePerkins · 25/09/2016 21:39

Ememem your post is lovely and shows how much we can do for a cat in desperate need of a loving home. You are giving her love, time and patience which is all she needs. She will over time learn to love and trust you, and then the rewards will be immense.
Our first cat was a rescue and very timid, she became the most insistent lap cat ever! She lived to the grand age of 18 and I was heartbroken when we had to have her PTS. I still miss her curled up on my lap.Sad
Our new rescue cat, like yours, is 18 months and had already had kittens. She's learning to trust us bit by bit, every little step she takes is heart warming.
My point is, if you try and understand what a cat needs, you'll reap the rewards. I can't imagine a house without a cat, they make it a home.

PosiePootlePerkins · 25/09/2016 21:40

Just seen the pic ememem she's a beauty!

bumsexatthebingo · 25/09/2016 21:40

If the op would get her cat looked at by a vet she could sort out their diet/get it treated so that it was no longer walking it's shit around the house.

Just urgh at this.

I have a kitten and OCD. The other day I manually had to extract a stuck poo from his bum. Not the dream, but that's pet ownership for you. They're inconvenient, disgusting and expensive at times. A lot like children really. But most people love them anyway.

If you have to rehome the kitten, do it now while he/she is still 'desirable' and be honest with your kids.

ilovesooty · 25/09/2016 21:46

If the OP tries to have her cat spayed with unresolved digestive issues I assume the vet wouldn't perform the procedure.

Gabilan · 25/09/2016 21:48

I got my two cats as outdoor cats. There are occasional fur balls. Piss and shit is outside. As promised, there are now no mice or rats in the house which is great.

During the summer, they are outdoor cats. The winter is a different matter. Still on balance I love having them

Hairyfairy01 · 25/09/2016 21:49

You gave a kitten a bath? How are you going to cope when the cat brings in dead, or half dead things? I would return the kitten to the rspca and get yourself to the GP for help with the OCD.

My cat used to bring mice into the house to kill at her leisure Shock we didn't have mice until the cat introduced them.
And birds, she stunned them ,brought them in and was narked if they flew away,

And she was very judgey that DH and I were vegetarian and didn't wean and rehome our offspring (we just didn't try hard enough)

mycatwantstokillme1 · 25/09/2016 21:53

MissLadyM, wash your mouth out with soap and water. Are you for real? How has she not treated the kitten properly? Seriously, if you get this wound up at a post like this, I think you need to get some help.

bumsexatthebingo · 25/09/2016 21:56

If she has actually bathed it then that's pretty cruel.

AppleJac · 25/09/2016 22:00

What was the op supposed to do when the cat was going to eat its own poo by licking it off?
