To not understand why 16 year old want to look 40

Watching the x factor and my dd16 contemporaries why on earth do they do their make up so they look older than 40 year old, me?

It's so badly applied, heavy handed and just aging and the clothes are terrible.

I can't understand why every single person has ripped trousers...

The girl with the ill fitting pleather pants looked the worse. Her hair!

They all do it though. Spend years trying to look older then, once a certain age, spend years trying to look younger.

All this weird non blended contouring and huge drawn on eyebrows look really grim in real life.

So weird we were just talking about that! The guys hair cuts are well off too, particularly the blonde with the tiny ponytail sticking out

I don't know, I modelled myself on baby spice all shift dresses and pigtails.

I had to laugh at ds he was taking the mucked earlier about the man utd players man buns.

I was just saying to DH how that last girl( the 16 year old) who got in last in the girls looked amazing because she actually looked 'real'. Made up, but natural- looking and not like a drag queen. It was refreshing.

Why, do you apply your make up badly, too?

I'll happily send an unphotoshopped picture to you. I certainly don't look like a mother. I have fun go out but I know sharpie eyebrows and bad foundation do not do anything for you.

Lol I'm not outing myself in public. But the issue is they are inferring I'm old fashioned. Which I'm not but when you are late teens/ early 20s you look the best, so why on earth is badly applied make up, dyed hair and fake tan needed.

They are not necessary and hide who the nice hair, glossy complexion you have as a teen.

It's an Instagram thing. The stage makeup they wear to get that perfect photo on Instagram looks like Christopher Biggins' panto makeup in real life.

What do you think the 20 year olds having lip fillers to incredible sizes will look like when they actually start to age?

Well if I could go back to being 16 again I definitely wouldn't look the way I did first time round 😂

They all do it to look good on Social Meejia - what looks good on Instagram does NOT look good in RL.
At least that's the motivation I'm told by my DSs' female friends.

I am a bit like this and at what they look like.

But then again if you cannot apply lots of make-up, and badly, when you are 16 when can you??
And we all know that X Factor is not a talent show, but a platform to entertain us with other people's shenanigans, don't we?

Teens always slap up to the point of looking really rough - modern equivalent of green eyeshadow or the super thick black eyes of the generation before. We learn, hopefully well before 40!

I suppose in hindsight hair mascara and black patent 6in mules from miss self ridge were the height of sophistication.

I have lip fillers although not an incredible size and you probably wouldn't know without being told unless you'd seen my pre-filler lips. You have to get them redone every 4-6 months so when they start to age badly, if they do, they can leave them to wear off and not get them redone.

In fact you don't even have to wait that long if you don't like them, there is something that gets injected that dissolves the fillers in about 5 minutes.

I don't think anyone was inferring you were old fashioned. What people were trying to say (I think) is that this has always been an issue. The over 40s have always thought that teenagers look ridiculous (probably because they always have looked ridiculous).

It's not that you're old fashioned. It's that anyone older than a teenager doesn't wear what teenagers wear - either clothes or make up

Teenagers have always had ridiculous fashions (in my teens I had purple hair and a nose ring and a raggedy collection of tie dyed clothes) but the teens these days are so terrifyingly GROOMED. All that makeup is like a mask with the thick contouring and mad eyebrows, you can't see what any of them actually look like! They're like little cartoons of themselves. At least those crazy mad boys haircuts with the massive bouffant hair all plastered forward over the face seem to have died out now...

I had this programme on for a while.

I felt I had to openly speak to me 7 year old about the overuse of make up and lecture her about it!

Then I thought 'oh dear. They all look terrible. The format of the show is terribly harsh. What am I teaching her?'.

So then I lectured her about working hard at school and not becoming a pop star and turned the TV off!

They all look the same too - which I know is what you want when you are 16, but I find it really quite disconcerting.

Yeah, I know pacific I just thought I should at least be all parental and preachy about it! I'm ineffectual most like but I always air my derision of manufactured pop etc. And baulk when she and her friend then sing the lyrics word for word

I might wear my ripped jeans again if it's the fashion. The ones I ripped at the arse when scrambling over a barbed wire fence. Nearly 50, I'll never learn.
