It's my 40th birthday tomorrow.

I don't want presents or a party or anything at all other than a card from DS and DH and lunch out with my family. So I think my demands and expectations are low.

But I've been on a no carb diet for a couple of weeks and I've decided I want eggs benedict for my birthday breakfast. On really nice bread. It's all about the bread. I am slightly obsessed with the joy of eating some bread in the morning and really looking forward to it.

Tonight I made some homemade Hollandaise in anticipation.. And I asked DH to go out and get some really nice bread.

He asked "what is really nice bread to you?"

I said something like a sourdough loaf or just a really nice one. We live near a Booths and they do loads of lovely, artisan type loaves. I said if there's no nice bread left just get some muffins.

He came back with this

A plain brown loaf. Granted it's unsliced but he thinks he's been awesome going out for he bread. I haven't mentioned it as I am well aware the carb freeness may be making me U but............AIBU?

Munchies are awesome. And why can't you get it yourself?

Well they may be awesome Princess but they are not chocolate. And well yes I could have gone myself but; well I won't bore you with what my working hours were back then trying to get things in place before I went on MAT leave. Actually maybe I will, I was starting around 9am everyday and often not finishing until gone 1am, and was on call for all of those hours 7 days a week. But mostly because he loved me, I was growing his baby and he was happy to do it.

I hate it when you build something up in your head and then it's not quite right, even worse when it's food because I resent the calories that I'm eating when I'm not enjoying it!

I probably wouldn't mind on my birthday though, I'm filled with happiness and...yes OK maybe not, but enough to get me through a less than perfect breakfast Wink

He gets brownie points for going though, and I have to say I'm Shock that he double checked what you meant first and obviously still didn't understand he was REALLY trying hard!

I have been stung too many times by the "surprise me" or vague "chocolate", it is now written down in precise detail (including size/weight, brand and sometimes pack colour!) and list is sent on phone so that he 100% has it at all times as we also had the forgotten lists problem!

Oh no, YANBU at all. What you were after was a nice crusty sourdough boule. Bread disappointment is the worst! I mean brown would be okay if it was a proper cottage brown like this, that you could butter, fry, and sprinkle with salt. Drool.

Happy Birthday catgirl1976!

I take it all back

Not only have I had a lovely morning but DH cut the bread thick, toasted it and went to the trouble of cutting it into muffin sized circles with a cookie cutter. He did the eggs and bacon perfectly too and presented it really nicely

It was delicious and he made so much effort to make the bread as good as it could be :)
