About birthday bread

It's my 40th birthday tomorrow.

I don't want presents or a party or anything at all other than a card from DS and DH and lunch out with my family. So I think my demands and expectations are low.

But I've been on a no carb diet for a couple of weeks and I've decided I want eggs benedict for my birthday breakfast. On really nice bread. It's all about the bread. I am slightly obsessed with the joy of eating some bread in the morning and really looking forward to it.

Tonight I made some homemade Hollandaise in anticipation.. And I asked DH to go out and get some really nice bread.

He asked "what is really nice bread to you?"

I said something like a sourdough loaf or just a really nice one. We live near a Booths and they do loads of lovely, artisan type loaves. I said if there's no nice bread left just get some muffins.

He came back with this

A plain brown loaf. Granted it's unsliced but he thinks he's been awesome going out for he bread. I haven't mentioned it as I am well aware the carb freeness may be making me U but............AIBU?

I'll toast the fecker. It might be alright

Grin at "take a lover with better taste in bread". Is there a box for that on Tinder do you think? There bloody should be.

I have never heard of Booths?? But that looks ok to me!
Happy birthday for tomorrow Flowers

catgirl1976 · 24/09/2016 20:06

Thank you Dalmation

Booth is like a naicer, Northern Waitrose. That does amazing bread Angry

Do you have a dog / child / large rodent who could steal / eat / otherwise damage said loaf this evening?
You can be upset and go out to replace first thing. DH happy.
Win win lovely carby win

catgirl1976 · 24/09/2016 20:09

Loving that idea.

The child is in bed we have no dog, but I could grate crumbs off it, hide it and say a (very hungry) mouse must have come in the night

Or! or! I could stick spots of blue and green playdoh on it, say it had gone mouldy and mutter about Booths going down hill whilst doing a sadface over my "lovely" mouldy loaf.

We don't even have a Waitrose, never mind a Booths :(

Notso · 24/09/2016 20:17

I can empathise a bit with your DH. My DH never specifies he'll just say things like "can you get me something sweet" then I get to the shop and have a mental block and end up buying him something disappointing, like a egg custard tart Hmm.
Also if that loaf is as good as the waitrose wholemeal loaf then it is a 'really nice one'.

ClashCityRocker · 24/09/2016 20:22

Yadnbu.

I have had similar bread disappointment.

For poached egg on toast it has to be White warbutons farm style loaf. It's what I have had every weekend since time immemorial.

He came back with hovis best of both. I just sat glumly staring at my substandard poached egg on toast and wondering if he ever really loved me, or knew me at all.

We should start a support group Clash :)

Brown bread! Envy boak. Now if it was a nice seeded/nutty loaf I'd have your arm off, for it. That is a sad sad sad bread. At least with white bread you know you're eating bad bread, but by gum, does it taste good.

catgirl1976 · 24/09/2016 20:26

Mmm yes, a nice seedy bread would have been fine. :(

clash. Grin

I remember when I was heavily pregnant, I asked my ex (yeah, ex) to go into town and pick up some milk, coffee and chocolate (let him decide what chocolate to get).

He returned an hour later with none of the above, and was instead clutching a bag of reduced oranges and a globe of the moon. The fucking moon! (TK Maxx, apparently....)

Thecontentedcat · 24/09/2016 20:40

I think that looks like lovely bread! It will be delicious toasted with lashings of butter and apricot jam. Dh makes homemade bread for us (every time)it is one of my greatest small pleasures and I love stoneground wholemeal, yum!

diddl · 24/09/2016 20:41

YWBU asking for bread for eggs Benedict!

Hopefully it'll be nicer than you think.

Hope you have a lovely day.

catgirl1976 · 24/09/2016 21:44

Honestly Didl. I know it should be Muffins but try it on toasted, dripping in butter sour dough.

You will thank me, I promise.

YABU asking for naice bread today to eat tomorrow. It's an early bird job. All the best birthday bread's best eaten fresh on the day.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Flowers

catgirl1976 · 24/09/2016 21:49

Thank you :)

I'm hoping DS will hop into bed, give me sloppy kiss and a hand made card and the bread really won't matter a jot.

Munchies are awesome.

And why can't you get it yourself?

BlurtonOnKites4eva · 24/09/2016 22:06

I haven't read your OP or any of the thread but YABU

BlurtonOnKites4eva · 24/09/2016 22:06

Only joking. Demand better.

IAmNotAWitch · 24/09/2016 22:23

Don't eat it.

It won't hit the spot and will be a waste of carbs. Postpone treat until you have appropriate bread.

We low carb Monday to Friday (and fast 2 weekdays as well). Any bread consumed on the weekend needs to be worth it.

Have done this now for 2 years. Down 40kgs with the best of all worlds.

alleypalley · 24/09/2016 23:28

Did you LTB alley? Everyone knows Munchies are not acceptable chocolate.

I gave him another chance and he now knows my favourite things in a variety of food groups, and now buys my Lindor chocolate every Christmas.

Happy birthday for tomorrow Cake

Sparklesilverglitter · 24/09/2016 23:34

You said sourdough or something and he came back with something, so I don't really see the problem.

The bakery here anytime past about 2pm and all the best bread is gone, so it might have been too late in the day for the bread you wanted.
